OT - Happy Derby Day!
For me personally, the run for the roses is the greatest day in sports. Horseracing is not for everyone (and some no doubt question the morality of it all), but it's hard to deny the suspense of the most exciting 2 minutes of all of sports.
Anyways, where are you watching it and who you got? No race in recent memory has been as wide open and the odds certainly are in the bettors' favor with a ton of mid/longshots. Exotics are gonna pay pretty big pretty much no matter the results.
I'm watching at home with some mojitos (not a fan of juleps) and I've already locked in my bets: Gormley (betting pretty heavy ATB), and boxing some exotics with Gormley, Fast and Accurate, J Boys Echo and Hence.
the coverage-to-event time ratio is incredible -- 4.75 hours for a 2 min race
There are actually 11 races that happen before the main race, a few of them are pretty important. So at least it's not completely pointless, empty coverage....but it was way too much Tom Hammond than anyone should have to endure (fortunately it's now Tirico).
Yikes. I know a lot of people enjoy it, but it's weeks of building up for a 2 minute event.
CFB Playoff, Super Bowl, First day of March Madness, any college football Saturday.
Not to say the other events/days aren't a shit ton of fun, but for me personally when it comes to a single day of sports, it's the Derby. I also am a gambling man as well, so that greatly plays a role in the excitement of it all. 170K people don't trek from all over the globe to Louisville of all places to wear stupid hats for nothing.
it's weeks of building up for a 2 minute eventKind of like my sex life?
I'm about to head to an epic, blow-out Derby party...should be interesting.
Honestly I don't know a thing about horse racing. But it sounds like it'd be a fun thing to go one year and just get wasted.
We're watching as we do things around the house.
I think I might be allergic to Rutledge Wood's jacket. Every time he is on screen, my eyes physically hurt and I begin to feel stuffy, kind of like when I have been working in the yard for a long time, but without the effort this time.
"Greatest Day in Sports?" It's arguably not even the greatest day in the Horse Racing calendar. It's easily eclipsed by The Belmont Stakes, when there is the chance for the Triple Crown and almost always annually by the Breeders Cup.
- it's whatever you like. As a college football fan first and foremost, January 1st is tough to beat. Always six GOOD bowl games (or more). Enjoy your derby day and your weekend!
trifecta bets in. There were a lot of unhappy old people waiting in that line.
Let's see your picks. My offshore betting site doesn't have the option to do exactas, trifectas, shows, places, ect so just got to go pick some to win straight up. Here are mine
Bet the #11 horse - Battle of Midway, as my long shot to win at 36-1 now
Bet the #18 horse - Hormley to win at 19-1 now
Bet the # 8 horse - Hence to win at 14.5 now
...could easily see Irish War Cry winning it of course but didn't bet on him since I can't do exactas or trifectas like at the real track.
How weird is it Bob Baffert isn't there? That's too bad his horse got hurt.
Still like that.
Yeah, I have been meaning to check out Twinspires and always forget. I've heard good things
Now we owe a boat load of taxes. :(
