This is a heartbreaker on the level of Jake Ryan's injury to me. I was very excited to see what Butt could do this year, and what Nuss could do with him. We went from having the best TE tandem in the conference to having big question marks. Hopefully Williams takes a big step and maybe Hill can do some things.

Butt is having surgery Feb. 20, about a monyh before Ryan tore his last year. I think Butt will be back around the start on the B1G schedule.

I believe there was a thread about this and I don't know if it's already been mentioned here but there was a NYT article about Stanford adopting a conditioning program that focuses on flexibility and balance...

9 ACL tears in basically 2 years is absurd. And anyone who attributes it to just bad luck is deluding themselves.

Given there are some of the world's best experts on ACL injuries on campus, I would think that Hoke or Wellman would contact them for advice. I asked a couple of the professors this week and they haven't had any communication with athletics about it. http://www.kines.umich.edu/profile/scott-mclean-phd http://www.kines.umich.edu/profile/riann-palmieri-smith-phd-atc http://me.engin.umich.edu/brl/jaam.shtml

FWIW, I saw Jake Butt walking up the stairs and out of Mojo today. He had crutches, but he was walking up the stairs pretty much without them. This means it's not a very severe ACL tear right? right? right?

p.s. I have no medical knowledge whatsoever, so if someone could enlighten me that would be great.

You actually don't even need your ACLs to get around in day-to-day life. Your ACLs are required for quick, lateral movements - a common event in the sports world, but not if you're just walking around. Older people with ACL tears quite often don't even get surgery.

I had a friend who was born without ACLs. He played football growing up all the way through HS. He required three knee surgeries after he was finished but played, and started at LT. He was good, but he always struggled with lateral movements. You can walk forward with an ACL, you just have difficulty cutting.

Yeah I know, cool story.

Half a knee, philosophically,
Must, ipso facto, half not be.
But half the knee has got to be
Vis a vis, its entity. D'you see?

But can a knee be said to be
Or not to be an entire knee
When half the knee is not a knee
Due to some recent injury?

Singing...

La dee dee, one two three,
Jake Butt has half a knee.
A B C D E F G,
Jake Butt has half a knee.

I love this sophomore TE,
Injured accidentally,
While working out in February,
I love him carnally.

He loves him carnally,
Semi-carnally.
The end.

Russell Bellomy?
No; semi-carnally!
Oh.

Russell Bellomy. . .
