Michigan #11 in AP poll
Title says it all. http://collegefootball.ap.org/poll
Edited to add #12 in Coaches poll (thanks Soulfire21). http://www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaaf/polls

That's probably about right, IMO. After dispatching Notre Dame we really should be 7-0 before the MSU game, though @PSU will be a tough one.
Edit: Does anyone notice that ESPN now goes back and changes the old opponent rankings to the new rankings in the schedule now? I believe that's new. Notre Dame was #14 when we played them, but now it retroactively says #21.
Edit 2: It's really good to see Ohio State dropping despite winning, because the quality of their opponents has been terrible.

ND will go back up so it'll work out, but that does seem new.

Certainly a good approach at this point in the season, when rankings are still a fantasy. But after, say, five weeks I'd switch to keeping the then-current rankings. For example, playing Michigan last year before Denard's elbow went kablooey and after that are two completely different kettles of fish. Another example is 2007 Oregon before and after Dixon went out for the season. Before was a national championship-caliber team, after was a disaster.

According to my calculations...potentially top 5 heading into November STOPTHINKINGTHISSTOPTHINKINGTHISPLEASENOJINX

Top ten will be a nice goal to achive over the next couple of weeks.
Still basking in the glow of last night.

Seems about right. With the exception of Georgia I can't see a single team above Michigan that probably doesn't have a good claim to be there this early in the season.
September 8th, 2013 at 12:44 PM ^
Not even Clemson, who beat Georgia?
September 8th, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
Am I missing something? Clemson is #3 with a first place vote.

No, I just can't read.

Clemson and Ohio State flipped, but I think that's the only big change

#12 Florida dropped out completely and Miami came in at #15, and previously #15 Texas dropped out completely. Fairly significant.

Right you are. Somehow I read an article "USC, Texas Out of Poll" as including Florida ... for some reason. That was definitely a pre-coffee post.

Florida in the top 20 right now is a joke. In fact three SEC teams at 1-1 ranked so high is a joke.
EDIT: and Drew Sharp places us at 21.

How many of those national championships did Georgia and South Carolina win?
September 8th, 2013 at 1:18 PM ^
TIING!!!
I told my bank that they should loan me a bunch of money because my rich CEO and I work for the same powerful company. They said "OK, if that kind of logic is good enough for the SEC, it's good enough for us."
No, wait. They told me to fuck off.

Seems to be. He had Michigan unranked last week.

where do you find that information?
September 8th, 2013 at 12:51 PM ^
His #17 Wolverines beat his #14 Irish and this week?
#21 Michigan
#25 Notre Dame
My goodness. Too funny.

It'll be tough to move up the next two weeks with playing Akron and UConn, unless there are some major upsets somewhere. Or unless Saban just absolutely pummels A&M next week and pushes them out of the top 10. But its not unreasonable to think we can be inside the top 10 for the start of conference play.
Anyway, assuming we can get by Penn State, which is no guarantee, there's no reason for us to not be undefeated heading into November.

I agree with most of your points, but point 2, the two teams Wisconsin shut out are way beyond awful. Tenn Tech? And UMass just got beat by the mighty Maine Black Bears at home by 10 points.

Does anyone know when USA-Today posts the first Sagarin computer ranking?
September 8th, 2013 at 1:21 PM ^
(LINK) - Michigan is 12th in the last run, and the only other Big Ten teams in the top 20 are Ohio State and Wisconsin. Nebraska rings in at 29th and Northwestern comes in at 35th. Purdue pretty much rounds out the Big Ten at 101st.
September 8th, 2013 at 1:38 PM ^
Sagarin has Sparty down at 44. The Sagarin computer must be broken or something. Maybe Drew Sharp should send an email explaining Sparty's true greatness.
September 8th, 2013 at 1:10 PM ^
Seems fair. As long as we keep it together the next part of the schedule is nice. Plenty of time for the interior of the line to come together and Fitz to become less ginger.
Also State is at #27, reaping of the benefit of people never watching them play and just seeing the final score on their news feed.
