I wish this campaign...
would stop because....

Thus far no comment from the PSU German Language department.
Vielen Dank.

Good thing my grandmother's father's family did not produce a shitty kicker for PSU... otherwise the campaign might have a slogan of "We still love Dicks!"
Yes, my German grandmother's maiden name is Dicks. Germans are wierd.

My deeply aryan heritage burns and seeths at your insult!
Except it's true.

Alright then, let's hijack this thread into a weird or cool German ancenstry surname thread.
My Grandma's maiden name was Leider, which seriously translates to:
Leider adv Unfortunately

Nearly married an Austrian girl who's last name translated to "plow the village fields he", or Pfligersdorffer for short. Only woman i've dated who didn't even bat an eye about the possibility of taking my nine letter collection of Slavic consonants as a last name.

I had a friend in high school with the last name Hittler. No joke. They emphasized that their last name had 2 t's.

Every year, they hold a festival celebrating this town on Slutshole lane in Great Brittain.
(They don't but they totally should.)
September 14th, 2012 at 5:06 PM ^
Alternatively, they could host it in this lovely British town:

There's more than a few of those, ahem, "oddities" in the UK:

One, there is a roadside stand there outside of an old Amish farmhouse that sells Amish Homeade Rootbeer. CONSUME IT! Also, the adorable little girl that lives there and works the stand probably won't be an adorable little girl by the time you get there, but sseriously, when we were there, she was adorable. SRSLY.
Two, there is a shop in town that sells jalapeno pickled eggs. DO NOT CONSUME IT! Again, SRSLY.

I have a client in Lancaster County. The last time I was there, I got my ex-wife a t-shirt that said, "I <3 Intercourse." I thought it was ironic.

I played HS football with a guy whose last name was Cox. He was our starting linebacker, but then he had an injury that sidelined him for the season. The Ada/Forest Hills Advance ran the headline:
Huskies to play rest of season with Cox out.

Can't help but remember the olympics and Chinese Trampolinist Dong Dong. Actual Yahoo News headline: "Chinas Dong flips and twists to trampoline gold."

This one guy who used to play for this football team I root for has the last name Cox.
Hilarity ensued

I learned that one of my German ancestors was named Hieronymus Knodel...It's surprising that the name Hieronymus went out of style.
September 14th, 2012 at 4:50 PM ^
....and on my mother's side, there are relations nearby. It's also the name of a mountain in the Alps with a rather grassy summit.

When I was driving on the autobahn I laughed every time I passed an exit. Exit in German is Ausfahrt. Childish I know, but I was only 21 at the time. But of course, I still do find it funny.

Most German towns have a sign on outbound roads that say "Gute fahrt!"
It means "Have a good drive!" or "Have a good journey!" but still. Tee hee!

I'm sure many on this board know of the famous road in Troy - Big Beaver Rd. Exit 69 on the 75, no less.

Out on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington is "Kitchen Dick Road".
I gotta imagine there is a great story behind that one.

That just might top exit 69 on Big Beaver rd.
Edit. Damn. Beaten by a split second, lol
