They are technically eligible to win the league. The U18 and U17 teams split the USHL schedule, and the U17s lose often enough that theyr'e not competitive.
The U17s play in the playoffs too because the U18s have the U18 world championships and the U17s never do that well.

My take on the power play improvement is that without a real QB at the point, or a really slick passing forward, it seems like Michigan has adopted more of a Red Wing-esque "shoot it from anywhere" philosophy. That means a lot of low-percentage, odd angle shots from the half boards and along the goal line, but also creates more rebounds, and forces the defense/goalie to respect the shooter, which opens up more opportunities for cross-ice passes.
I also think Wisconsin ends up making the tournament. They've had a tough schedule so far, but are about to play four straight series against pretty terrible teams, which will help their record immensely. There's a chance they could be 12-5-1 by the time they host Michigan in January.

If anyone was curious, I tracked Corsi numbers for Friday's game, which you can find towards the bottom here: http://www.sbncollegehockey.com/big-ten/2013/11/29/5158588/michigan-4-ohio-state-3-ot-friday-nights-final-scoring-and-notes
Michigan had a pretty solid advantage largely because they seemed willing to shoot from anywhere and everywhere. Sacrificing shot quality for more attempts can lead to some ugly shooting percentage nights, but obviously paid off here, especially on Compher's goal.

Also, at least they didn't steal any of their many, many hats.

This is a lot like losing Daniel Milne to the OHL last year. Cianfrone's stock had dropped to the point where it shouldn't be difficult to find as good or better elsewhere.

Derek and Brad Shepherd will be in there. Then probably whichever CCHA refs you don't see on those two lists(McInchak, Hill, Pochmara) would be my guess.

You're thinking of assistant ref Tony Molina.

The WCHA didn't "offer to take them". They were the refs that neither of the other two leagues offered a job to. The fact that so many of the old CCHA refs ended up there is pretty damning in terms of how they were viewed.
Also, for what it's worth, that site is the hockey blog for the Grand Forks Herald, so it's very credible.

Yeah, that other NAHL goalie that got drafted last year(Connor Hellebuyck) is doing pretty okay as well.
Quick breakdown by strength
AHL (Think like AAA baseball)
ECHL (Like AA baseball)
CHL, SPHL (I don't want to get a real job)
Tier I : CHL(includes OHL, WHL,QMJHL), USHL. CHL players are ineligible for NCAA hockey. The NTDP team participates in the USHL.
Tier II: NAHL, BCHL, AJHL, SJHL CCHL, OJHL, other various alphabet soup Canadian leagues.
Tier III: You've probably never heard of any of them.

In hockey, the line seems to be the best women in the world can compete with an above-average high school team. I could see that being pretty similar in other sports as well.

|37 weeks 5 days ago||I'll laugh at how Minnesota||
I'll laugh at how Minnesota burns money more than anyone, but I'm not sure that was the full quote. They weren't expecting to make a profit in the first year. The law allowing them to sell beer was passed pretty late--I believe a game or two into the season--and they didn't have the infrastructure set up to sell it themselves, so they contracted the job out to a third party, knowing that their cost would probably only allow them to break about even on alcohol sales. Next year, when they take over the operation themselves, they should make a lot more money.
If you really want stupid, look into the politicking and grandstanding that went into beer being served there in the first place.

As much as that sucked, the silver lining for me is that if I had to choose one could-go-either-way 50/50 tap for a share of the Big Ten title to fall Michigan's way between yesterday and Draymond Green last year at Crisler, I choose last year without even thinking twice. YMMV.
Then again, I probably trade both straight up for DMo's runner against Duke to fall, and buy that team another five minutes.

|1 year 5 weeks ago||1. The reason they keep||
1. The reason they keep picking the same sites out east and with Minnesota is because they hand out regionals based on bids, and if nobody else bids to host those events, the same places keep getting picked.There's just very few places that meet the NCAA's criteria for what they want out of a regional site and have the interest to do so. About the only reason Cincinnati was picked was because they were a new choice.
2. Home sites would be infinitely better. The NCAA's problem is similar to the issue they had with home sites for football; namely the possibility of a team with an inadequate or unavailable arena earning the right to host.

It's a good idea, but it's not going to go anywhere because the "organization" or whatever you want to call it that claims to be representing the players is a total joke.
|1 year 7 weeks ago||This has been a bad move, if||
This has been a bad move, if only for how bad of a PR hit the team, and Kill specifically, have taken once word got out that they paid $800k to avoid playing a real opponent. Public opinion has largely been sympathetic towards him, and yesterday put a huge dent in that.
The other problem is that season tickets are going to be a huge problem for the Gophers coming up. Lots of people paid full price for season ticket packages, and they've practically been giving tickets away to anyone that wants them the week before games. They sent out a deal this past week where if you bought Purdue and Michigan tickets at $15 a piece, you get the Michigan State ticket for free, while season ticket holders paid over $40 for each game. Good luck trying to keep those people buying season tickets at $40+ a game when the schedule includes a bunch of nobodies where you'll be able to pick up tickets for $5 on the secondary market.
The bowl thing is over rated. They've been to plenty of Sun Bowls and the like. Nobody cares, and if anything, it ends up costing the school money because the payouts are so dismal.
