I like the submission…

I like the submission competition for something to do during the off season. I remember them doing that years ago and it was a lot of fun to see the posts.

4.  Unbelievable turnaround,…

4.  Unbelievable turnaround, deep playoff run.

So far you are mistaken…

So far you are mistaken. They have both unfollowed the USC and Texas coaches so that seems to indicate they aren't currently listening to the overtures.

He is a big difference but…

He is a big difference but he didn't hire any coaches. Campbell was hired before Holmes and Campbell hired the other coaches.

Chris Spielman and Mike…

Chris Spielman and Mike Disner are the most unsung heroes in this story. Sheila called Speilman and asked him to help her with the football stuff. He personally called players and coaches to vet the Head Coaching candidates. They chose Campbell over other candidates people thought were better fits (Saleh). He is her special assistant and is in the buiding everyday.

Mike Disner is a carryover from the previous regime. He is the Chief Operating Officer for the Lions and manages the player negotiations and the roster budget. Prior to coming to Detroit he was the Arizona Cardinals director of football administration and lead contract negotiator. Disner plays a key role in roster construction.

They then hired an experience player scout as GM. Brad Holmes was the Director of College Scouting for the Rams from 2013. He was instumental in finding many of the Stars on that Super Bowl team. When he came to Detroit he brought Ray Agnew who was the Director of Professional Scouting for the Rams. Then he hired former Kansas City and Cleveland Browns GM John Dorsey to help him with the GM stuff he wasn't familiar with.

Brad Holmes then hit home runs in the draft. Almost every player he drafted over the first three years remain with the team and many are key contributors:

I starting reading back in the old https://mgoblog.blogspot.com/ days. Probably '05 or '06. I'm sure I have refreshed this page more than any other website I ever visit.

Here’s the store he has…

Here’s the store he has linked on Twitter:

He's been compared to Ralph…

He's been compared to Ralph Sampson with a 3pt shot. Ralph Sampson entered the league at 7ft2 225. While he did deal with some injuries he is a hall of famer, played in a more physical era, and was an all-star game MVP.

You take that possibility all day.

"According to Lorenz, Ludwig IS a scholarship player. Harbaugh offered him and he committed. Saga: over."

Why don't you have Zach…

Why don't you have Zach Ludwig on your commit list?

You realize NIL has nothing…

You realize NIL has nothing to do with the revenue the team generates? The question is how much boosters are willing to give to players. It will not be a "payroll." It will be specific to each player based on a collection of opportunities.

Exactly. What he did remains…

Exactly. What he did remains against the rules today. To suggest that the NIL changed that is wrong. His punishment is three games that will have little baring on the total season.

He is but we aren't…

He is but we aren't currently in his top 3. Sam said on WTKA that we will need a good season to rise up the list.

Javon Kinlaw was just taken…

Javon Kinlaw was just taken in the first round of the NFL draft as a DT. He was the 32nd ranked OT when he was recruited.

Broderick Washington was just taken in the fifth round of the NFL draft as a DT. He was the 16th ranked OC when he was recruited.

Ceyair Wright is missing…

Ceyair Wright is missing from your possibles but I understand we are trending up. Here are some recent articles:

Add him into your math and see where we end up.

BTW - He will be playing Lebron James' son in the new Space Jam movie.

I think your post was very…

I think your post was very reasonable. I agree they should have a recruiting person with ties to Metro Detroit because we have the advantage of proximity. I propose when they next have the opportunity they invite Devin Gardner to be a GA with the goal of moving him eventually to an assistant. He is running a QB school now and working with Joe Milton now.

You are parsing Sam's words…

You are parsing Sam's words. He said Damon Payne wasn't interested in Michigan because of his coach, not that we were sure to get him. He still would have needed to be recruited. There are many variables in a recruitment but there is no guarantee that even if his coach loved Michigan he would have chosen to Go Blue.

The real point is, by now…

The real point is, by now they should be aware they are potential carriers and avoid people at risk. More importantly, people at risk (i.e. Over 65 or with compromised health) should be personally responsible for avoiding potential carriers. As he said in the post, students who live with people at risk should do remote learning.

As of May 12 in New York…

As of May 12 in New York City, 95% of all deaths were either over the age of 64 or had underlying health conditions. That means older people or those with underlying health issues should avoid people who may be compromised. The risk of death to college students is very low. People at risk should be cautious and self-quarantine.

I just conferred with my…

I just conferred with my resident "Minecraft" expert (my teenage son). Ideally she would play on a computer versus the Xbox. The computer version is about $25 and there are no additional charges for mods and upgrades. She could even play with kids on Xbox. He says the game play is much better there too.

If Xbox is the only option then the starter collection makes sense if she plans to play multiplayer because she will see some of the mods the other players have and will want them too.

He says almost anything available on the Xbox Minecraft Marketplace for a charge is available for free on the computer. Also if she watches people playing on YouTube they are probably playing on the computer.

Since he announced his…

Since he announced his intention to transfer before Manning was fired it will be hard to prove to the NCAA that they were connected.

I don't think you understand…

I don't think you understand what a "right" is.

it should be provided to every American as a right by health departments/our healthcare providers via government purchase.

A "right" something you are born with not something that is given to you. I think you mean an "entitlement" which is a benefit provided by the government and paid for by the taxpayers.

I think the misuse of that word confuses the discussion.

Keep in mind it could take years for decision makers to choose a satisfactory test and then manufacture and distribute 350,000,000 of them. While it would be ideal to know who has antibodies, we can't afford to keep everything closed for that long. Not to mention, we still aren't sure how long the antibodies will be effective. This may become like the flu with annual mutated strains.

Jim Harbaugh is preparing…

Jim Harbaugh is preparing for the season like it will happen. I think we should too.

There will be a lot of pressure to have some kind of season. If they limit groups to 100 people then that may be all they have in the stadium.

Since Michigan pretty much…

Since I got the dreaded double-post I thought I would share a quote from Matt Dudek:

"Michigan is a special, different place," Dudek said. "Not everybody fits here and it needs to be treated that way as a special, different place. The admissions department, they're not accepting someone that is a 2.0, 800 SAT and neither are we. From a standpoint, and not necessarily from grades, just from the below-the-standard of what Michigan is... I love when I read, 'they didn't know about this guy or they're not recruiting this guy hard.' We know who that guy is, we don't want him. There is a level of that. We could've got him, they picked another school over us. Maybe we told him to go to that other school. Again, I'm talking in generalities. There's a lot of guys in the last year, for example, there's a couple of guys that I thought for sure that we were in the mix and we wanted. We loved. We didn't get them at the end."

Since Michigan pretty much…

Since Michigan pretty much out-recruits every other team in the Big 10, do you think Michigan's system is better than all of theirs?

Over the last 5 years Michigan has had the following recruiting finishes on 247:

2020 - Second

2019 - First

2018 - Third

2017 - Second

2016 - Second

I imagine that if we were to beat OSU once or twice we would recruit better, but I don't believe Michigan has a vastly inferior strategy to the team in Columbus. I believe wins make recruiting easier.

We need to overcome slightly less talent and win the Big 10 to get the boost you are looking for.

Here's a link 247's team rankings - https://247sports.com/Season/2021-Football/CompositeTeamRankings/

Each year the Team Managers for Division I basketball teams play games against each other. During NCAA Tournament time they have their own tournament.

Because of COVID-19 they decided to make the tournament virtual. Here's a link to the Michigan Team Managers Twitter:

Pretty sure that's a myth.

Pretty sure that's a myth.

Yes

Yes

You should be optimistic.

You should be optimistic.

There never was any real evidence that he was ever injured. Don't allow unsubstantiated rumors to dictate your opinions. If you hear a credible rumor look for a reasonable source to corroborate it. No credible source ever suggested this was ever true.

You are confusing the truth…

You are confusing the truth of the story. Hudson's claim for justifying his transfer was he was suffering depression, however he never notified Michigan about it. When the NCAA asked Michigan how they handled it they claimed they weren't notified. The NCAA is denying the claim because there is no evidence he addressed the issue prior to the transfer.

His mother saying that Michigan didn't help suggests she want's them to verify a story that they were unaware of.

That's why Jim said the players should be allowed to transfer once without having to provide a reason. He didn't think it was fair that kids should have to announce personal details of their lives or potentially make up reasons to leave.

Imagine how popular he'll be…

Imagine how popular he'll be when he stars on both a College World Series team and a College Football Playoff team.

It will probably look…

It will probably look something like this:

He wasn't paid.

He started…

He wasn't paid.

He started as part of Alba's Junior Team. Kind of like playing junior hockey in the U.S. However, they allow players to move up from Juniors to the B team and even to the A team. Regardless of which team they play for if they start as juniors they are unpaid. The issue with Franz is he was offered a contract after the season. If he took it he wouldn't have been eligible to play in college.

Since he never took a contract he maintained his amatuer status.

This is the first time I've ever made one of these so I'm not sure how to do much with the analysis reporting. I was able to remove the table and just show the chart with point totals. The higher points are better. Unranked people get zero.

Good point.

I realized that…

Good point.

I realized that the analysis is flawed at the end, that's why I plan to put together a Diary once we have meaningful data.

I realized there were so many choices that it made sense to reassure people they don't have to rank everyone if they don't want to.

I think your read on this is…

I think your read on this is off.

I understand that NBA GMs were surveyed about various players including Poole. 100% of them said he would be taken in the draft. Some had him going in the first round but not the lottery. He physically projects to the NBA so he will be drafted.

Iggy is harder to predict but he will be 21 in January, so he is physically mature. That means there is less projection that NBA GMs will need to do. I would like to see him come back but if he gets invited to the Draft Combine on May 15 then that means he's likely to stay in until the draft on June 20. Under the new rules, if he is invited to the combine but isn't drafted he can return to school. That is a long time for Beilein to wait to fill that spot.

Regarding Austin Davis, he has repeatedly said that he has no plans to transfer and wants his Michigan degree. He is only a junior. If he transferred to a D1 without graduating first he would have to sit out a year. Why would a kid who wants a Michigan degree transfer if he couldn't play elsewhere anyway. I suspect he will finish his degree next year and take a Grad Transfer somewhere for his last year.

Brooks is only a sophomore so transferring would require him to sit out. With our current roster he is likely to get lots of minutes at the two next year since he has more experience than anyone else on the team. We can hope the Nunez experiences the sophomore bump and Cole Bajema is able to play the 2 but I can't imagine Beilein would want to enter the season without a veteran option.

It seems Michigan needs to recruit with the certainty of one spot and the likelihood of two. The calendar is tight. Beilein visits Franz next week. Pierce visits the weekend of the 27th but has a visit to North Carolina after that, so we probably have three weeks before his decision. I suspect we will have pretty good idea what our roster will look like in one month. My guess is Poole and Iggy are gone and we will add Franz Wagner plus either Pierce or Bones.
