Michigan gets crystal ball for Wake Forest SG transfer Chaundee Brown

Former 4 star SG, Wake Forest transfer Chaundee Brown.

Averaged 12.1 PPG and 6.5 RPG in 2019-20.

High of 26 points against Xavier. Not much of a 3-point shooter with a 19-58, 33% outing from behind the arc.

This is an interesting development since he at one point had a final four with Michigan excluded. They must have covered a lot of ground with him in a short amount of time, like they did with Eastern.

Looks like he will have to sit out a year unless he gets a waiver.

Wake Forest fired his coach, Danny Manning, this offseason.  In all fairness, I think that would result in an automatic waiver but unfortunately, the NCAA is not known for fairness.

Just like with Eastern, seems like a win-win. He's unlikely to put the whole team on his back, but if he sits a year will be super important for depth on a team that will have a load of roster spots. Hoping it's good news for the good guys!

To be clear, he is most definitely not a Shooting Guard.  He's a forward, more of an undersized 4 or big 3.  He is actually a similar player to freshman Terrence Williams - some shooting potential but more of a burly forward who does the dirty work.  UMHoops has a lot of info that I'd recommend.

In my opinion....

If he's immediately eligible, he's great Livers insurance.  Otherwise he probably let's you slide Franz down to the 2 more (if that works) and let's Brandon Johns play more undersized 5.

If he's a sit-out, then he's a great senior leader on a super-young team next year.  He'll play both forward spots and give you 30 minutes to shore things up.

I liked the idea of waiting with the final open spot to see what happens post NBA draft decisions but this is a pretty good bird in hand.

I think everyone is going to get a waiver next season. They already seem to grant more immediate eligibility to transfers than they decline. With the current landscape of the world, and certainly sports world, it seems like it would be far simpler on their end to just let kids transfer and play for a year.

As an FYI and to help provide content - the vote on the one-time transfer exception may be postponed and will most likely not be passed. I wouldn’t get my hopes up for these guys to be eligible right away....which is fine.
