Except it was a giant windmill with windmill blades that extended millions of miles in space. At some point down each rotating blade you'd have to be going faster than the speed of light. Part of the blade would be going slower, part at, and part faster than the speed of light. I'm sure it'd be impossible to create a blade strong enough to do so, but just sayin'.

Art, I say! Art!
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I don't recall making such a comparison.||
What I said was Kansas and Mizzou are both AAU schools, which is sort of a prerequisite for joining the B1G (aside from Nebraska, who lost their status around the time they joined). I don't think academics were a primary consideration. I think UConn has better rankings than UMD and Rutgers and a basketball program that has won two championships in the last few years, but Connecticut doesn't offer the cable money like UMD and Rutgers do. Regarding proximity to Michigan, I think you should consider proximity to other B1G schools instead. Lawrence and Columbia are fairly close to Champaign, Iowa City, Lincoln, as well as each other. I think they'd have made a lot of sense as being part of a western division.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||While I don't disagree, I would have preferred to keep the B1G||
midwest-based. I would have rather seen us take Mizzou and Kansas ( some argue that may have not been an option due to KSU). AAU schools, one an elite basketball school, and a school with a very good basketball and football program. Rivals of Nebraska, would have been excellent pieces of a Great Plains B1G division. The cable money is going to dry up soon anyway. Both would be better long-term members than Maryland and Rutgers in my opinion.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I wish we could get a re-do on the Rutgers-Maryland move||
Wasn't this move predicated on the inclusion of the B1G Network in the lucrative east coast cable sports package, a thing that might not even exist in a few years? I really wish the B1G would have stopped after Nebraska and enacted a nine-game B1G football schedule so we'd have had the same scheduling scenarios we had before Nebraska joined. Missing out on playing two teams for two years didn't seem like a bad deal, even if one of them were a Wisconsin.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I don't think I said who was a good fan and who wasn't.||
What I meant by "diehards" was loud and boisterous fans who stand and cheer, but I don't think I said anything about diehards being good fans. I am a fan who enjoys standing and cheering loudly, something I believe impacts the game if done correctly (at least the being loud part) and generally, I am unable to do so due to other fans who prefer quiet stands. Your mom's superstitious acts sounds great. I hope she continues to do so. Clearly, if there are good fans, your mom is among them. The point of my comment was whether they are reading the newspaper, or a book like your mom, or critiquing music, they generally aren't pleased with the louder variety of fans, and vice versa for us louder fans. The middleground is very small if it exists at all.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||100% agree||
I wish other fans did too. But I've sat next to fans reading the newspaper during the game. Some fans are diehards, some fans spend more time critiquing the piped in music than watching the game. I really do see both sides. I feel for the older and/or disabled fans. I also want to, and encourage others to, stand and cheer as often as possible. It's situational and the middleground is not always agreeable amongst the 115,000 or so people. Ultimately, someone is going to feel miffed.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I want to start a Kickstarter campaign for standing fans.||
First, gauge the critical number of standers in each section necessary to get the whole section standing, then buy that number of tickets spread out in a section and share them with dedicated standers. If we all stand, everybody stands. M'wahaha.
In the voice of Tony Montana...In this country, you gotta get the tickets first, then when you get the tickets, you get the standers, then when you get the standers, you get the women.

About every game that I've attended I've been yelled at for standing, which is usually only on defensive third downs. Last game I attended I was even yelled at for standing during halftime. Quiet wins the day at Michigan games.

|11 weeks 3 days ago||I agree.||
I think people should take time to verify what they are posting isn't redundant. Even more so, they should take time considering the title of their post, so that it is clear, informative, and not clickbait-y. Constructive criticism is good. Ridicule is not. It feels like there is too much ridicule (and unless some Bolivia-worthy act has been committed, should there be any?) and it too often dominates the reasons I come here: great writing, informative up-to-the-minute Michigan news, and general fun with great Michigan fans.
I'm a decent college-educated writer with a growing knowledge of sports (largely due to Brian, Seth, and the gang) and would love to become more involved and add more informative content if I felt I wasn't going to get chewed out. I'd bet there are others who feel similarly.
|11 weeks 3 days ago||Thank you.||
The attitude you're mocking is half the reason I only post here once in a blue moon. It seems many users seek to shit on a post above all else, creating a haughty and cliquey atmosphere. Sometimes the IBDs, memes, etc. seem in good fun, but too often they come off spiteful. The mods are quick to delete threads that they deem redundant or duplicate, and no one is forced to click on them, so is there really any need to jump down these users' throats?

I love a good 80s sitcom opening parody. Now if they could do a Perfect Strangers one, or perhaps a Mr. Belvedere, with Harbaugh and Hackett.

You know, to cheer for a B1G team and also due to the fact that Miami was supposed to piledrive them into oblivion. It was a terrible mistake, something that left me feeling dirty for years. Never again. Go Ducks!
