I think the concern is that this may be the best team we have for a few years, while this may be their worst team for a few years. We will see how the games play out, but it's pretty reasonable to rank their collective talent above the rest. It is Alabama and Ohio State, then everyone else. It definitely doesn't mean they are unbeatable. I loved when we beat them in the 90s when they were basically assured a national title with a win over us. It probably won't work that way now with the playoff, but it would be so satisfying to see Michigan take them down at their zenith.

It has to help build critical-mass to your class when you land a bunch of 5-stars early in the season. Playing the waiting game like we are for most of our big pieces has to have an impact.

Ohio State is making it a tough battle. Urban took him to church and everything on his recent visit. No holds barred, guys.

Asiasi was definitely very late in the game, probably mentioned because we thought we'd land Boss Tagoloa. So glad we stole Khaleke from PSU.

I think the consensus was to expect an Ambry Thomas Michigan commitment video to drop by week's end.

How many last-second surprises did we have the last two years? Higdon was one, (and Nick Eubanks?) but I feel like there were a few others. I'm expecting at least one 4-star guy to be in this class that we haven't talked about.

|1 day 13 hours ago||Exactly. The good news is||
Exactly. The good news is coming down the pipeline are a bunch of elite linemen that are local or have an existing Michigan connection, something like three guys that will likely be 4-stars or better. I don't have a link but I got it from an article from one of the Michigan recruiting gurus a month or so ago.
If that holds true and Michigan can pick these guys in this class, the future will be bright.

I feel Michigan is definitely a competitor with Black, but from what he has said on Twitter, the allure of the south is appealing to him and Michigan can't match that if that's his deciding factor. Hope it's just after-visit euphoria for him.

Totally agree. If we land Nico and DP-J, we have enough guys on the list and guys on the team already that could round out our WR corp nicely. Landing Wilson and Solomon are so important.

I'm happy there is a real competition there. Who's most important of the five? The linemen, I assume, and it sounds like we have a damn good shot at landing both. Of the other three, Nico is the only one I believe we are ahead with. If we got those 3 of the 5, it'd be a huge victory in my book.

Still holding a candle out there for Baron Browning, I don't care where he's committed. I want to believe.

After so many years in the wilderness, I can't not be excited about playing in the Orange Bowl and against a great team like FSU. Cant wait to savor this one before the long off-season.
|3 days 10 hours ago||Yep. If we had beaten Iowa,||
Yep. If we had beaten Iowa, it'd be between Washington and Michigan for that 4th spot. We'd have one close loss against what would likely be the B1G champ as compared to their loss to a three-loss USC and the second weakest SoS. In other words, we'd be in. Two-loss teams just don't make the playoff.

Biggest takeaway: don't lose more than one game. Strength of schedule and conference championships are secondary factors.

Michigan is again among the top-tier of college football in regards to on-field performance. We have a great coaching staff and are bringing in great recruiting classes after a few down years. We are in the playoff debate right up until the end. We won 10 games. Sure, I want more, but to be sad seems shortsighted and forgetful about where we were just a few seasons ago.

He's making a Bleacher Report announcement video. I saw that he was talking highly about the beautiful women in the south before taking a dig at Michigan for lacking them. Twitterz, but that didn't fill me with confidence...

I would love for Warde to ask why this Ohio State fan ref was allowed to officiate Saturday when he wasn't allowed to do so in 2006. Whether the guy officiated biasedly, it's reasonable to question it knowing he is a fan of on of the teams and likely despises the other. That will never sit well with me, especially after knowing the direction the flags were flying.
|1 week 2 days ago||I just refreshed my||
I just refreshed my recruiting memory using 247 team ranking composite and figured I'd share what I found. Below is Michigan's and Ohio State's recruiting 247 composite ranking and points, 2012-2016, including everyone that possibly played Saturday barring 6-year guys and including many guys who are no longer on each team for various reasons. Maybe it's not super useful in its current form but, hey, at least I'm not creating another threat for it.
Year - Rank - Composite Points
2012- 6th - 275.89
2013 - 4th - 289.15
2014 - 20th - 233.57
2015 - 37th - 194.69
2016 - 6th - 280.38
Average 14th - 254.74
Year - Rank - Composite Points
2012 - 5th - 281.68
2013 - 2nd - 303.27
2014 - 3rd - 296.06
2015 - 7th - 277.78
2016 - 4th - 289.12
Average 4th - 289.58
I know they lost a lot of talent last year to the draft, but one of our classes in there was nearly completely gutted if I recall. Losing those guys to the draft likely helped them with the 2016 and 2017 classes while our losses didn't. Without removing guys who are leaving or have left their respective teams, which would be more telling, it seems we have a recruiting gap that still needs some time to work itself out.
Here are the base team ranking averages for next year (2013-2016, not including 2017 class, obviously)
Michigan - Rank 17th - 249.45
Ohio State - Rank 4th - 291.56
While we may take a step back next year, it'll be exciting to see what Michigan looks like in a few years when it continues to pull in elite Top 10 recruiting classes, which seems reasonable with Harbaugh at the helm. I think our coaching advantage will start to show itself more.

I'm not sadly sipping a beer in ten years while dissecting this horrific moment. There are too many other horrific moments to mull over and dissect while sadly sipping a beer.
|1 week 2 days ago||I'm not pissed at all about||
I'm not pissed at all about "The Spot," only about all the other obvious non-calls that should have done Michigan's way. Whether the ref was biased, knowing one is a lifelong Ohio State fan and that he wasn't allowed to ref the 2006 game provides appearance of bias. It looks bad. The B1G showed negligence in haphazardly selecting these refs.

If we had beaten Iowa, we'd be in regardless of yesterday. That we lost and the way we lost is why I think we don't end up in the playoff. But if the committee sees it otherwise, I won't argue!
|1 week 3 days ago||I was okay with it before||
I was okay with it before they decided to go for one. I get why'd we stay on the field with our defense, but had Harbaugh gone for it and lost, I would have accepted it, knowing we took a shot when we were in control of our destiny.
