OT: OSU Loses 3rd String RB For Season Due to Injury

Submitted by ThisGuyFawkes on August 16th, 2022 at 4:19 PM

Evan Pryor, who was set to back up TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams this coming season, suffered a knee injury earlier this week and is out for the season. Feel bad for any injury to a hard-working young athlete, hope he heals up soon.

Main relevance for Michigan, is that there are now only 3 scholarship RBs on OSUs roster this year, and RB is obviously a place where injuries can and do happen frequently. Just as we have areas (QB, DT, LB) where an injury would be a major problem, I think OSU's RB room is in a similar situation.

I know people love to complain that paying insane money to recruits is going to be the end of college football, but situations like this is why NIL matters.

Injuries suck to hear and I hope he recovers.

Agreed - you never want to see a major injury happen to one of these kids.

Best of luck Evan - hope you come back better than ever in 2023.  We want to beat the Bucknuts with their players healthy.

This just means that their fourth string will run for 1500 yards and 20 TDs this year. Am I doing this right?

In all seriousness, hope he's okay and he recovers well. Injuries suck no matter who you play for, but OSU is the one school where someone gets injured and the guy who steps in to replace him is better every single time.

It sure will depth-wise. Can't ever get through a full season without RBs getting dinged up along the way.

Sure, Henderson is going to be the man, but Pryor was expected to play a dynamic role, more of a receiver out of the backfield whereas Williams would specialize in short-yardage duties. If this were the NFL, Pryor is the type of guy who would be considered a "third down back."

Dang.

They already converted one RB to LB midseason last year. Too late to undo that as he's an expected starter on defense.

Have to agree with Bucky's point.  Having a stable of running backs is more than it used to be, it's critical to have diversified, top-shelf talents to make life miserable for opposing DCs.  Pryor isn't third string because he's not quite as talented, but because his specific talent isn't used as much in OSU's packages.  We wouldn't want to lose Dunlop or Mullings, either, for the same sort of reason.  I wish the kid well and to have a complete (post-November) recovery.  We'll need help down in the shoe this year, hopefully in the form of inclement weather.

I too am concerned about Chambers at LB. Eichenberg I think will be fine. Chambers played a miserable game last year when they lost to some team...don't remember who...I think it was 41-26 or something...anyway, Chambers played hesitantly that game. He'd better be much better this season.

Also true that CB depth is an issue. But not as crucial as previous years when they started 3 CB with a single safety...now the premium is on safeties because they will play 3 safeties and only 2 CBs. But yes, they only go about 4-deep confidently at CB.

Dude, why are you here? I get your ilk have a problem writing the University of Michigan. Fine. But you chose to come here and make a profile. Doesn’t an Ohio State University have a site dedicated to OSU sports? I wish you the best, but it is the height of irony to come to Mgoblog and not acknowledge the school the blog writes about. Further, why waste the time? I could care less about the other 116 school’s blog. I only visit this one because I care about the University first and the sports second.

So I asked Dr. Google and got this.  There are many other sites too but this seemed consistent.

https://www.sportskeeda.com/sports/top-10-biggest-sports-rivalries-in-the-world

#10 Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic (Tennis)

#9 Green Bay Packers vs Chicago Bears (National Football League)

#8 Arnold Palmer vs Jack Nicklaus (Golf)

#7 New Zealand vs Australia (Rugby)

#6 Lewis Hamilton vs Nico Rosberg (Formula One)

#5 Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier (Boxing)

#4 Los Angeles Lakers vs Boston Celtics (Basketball)

#3 Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees (Baseball)

#2 India vs Pakistan (Cricket)

#1 FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid (Football)

#10 is definitely entertaining and we're witnessing generational brilliance.  But they don't have the all year intensity of The Game.

#s 9, 6, 4, 3 don't move the needle for me and Michigan v.TSDS has greater longevity.

#8... they're FRIENDS!

#2, Ugh!  NOT a rivalry when the overwhelming outcome is likely to be a tie.  Maybe they get some extra credit for being nuclear powers with chips on their shoulders and the silly posturing that occurs daily in Kashmir.  But they lose all those points for freaking cricket.  A game that takes DAYS to complete a game.

#1, I think Rangers v. Celtic is more the definition of a rivalry that we all can relate to.

I vote for Rangers v. Celtic as one of the world's great rivalries and a la the futbol angle you were thinking of.

I absolutely buy #7 for culture, impact, intensity, etc.

Ditto for #5... and they get a pass on longevity because boxers cannot beat the hell out of one another for 117 bouts.

But while those three are amazing rivalries, my biased ass thinks vis-a-vis Michigan/TSDS, Michigan wins.

While they are certainly biased, just like we are, they also know a lot more about their team.  His contribution on this thread is a great example.  I had no idea what the specific role of this back would be.  If they are providing info and not trolling, let them have their say.

Anyway, it sucks to see a major injury for a player, regardless of the team.

Geek, sorry my friend - a “typhoon” of five star players?   Last I checked (for the 2021 season) - the Bucks only had sixteen - yes, 16 - 5* players on their roster.

As a point of reference for comparison, Alabama had 14, while Clemson had ten.

It looks like the Bucks had more 5* players on their roster than the rest of the B1G combined.

Oh, I get your point….

Oh jeez. Does that mean they’re down to just their first and second string 5-star running backs?

What will they do after they run for 150 yards each?

Nail-biting time.

That sucks to hear. Let's hope he has a speedy recovery. I wanted to see what he would do after Michigan knocked out the first and second string running backs during the first quarter of the game
