OT: OSU Loses 3rd String RB For Season Due to Injury
Evan Pryor, who was set to back up TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams this coming season, suffered a knee injury earlier this week and is out for the season. Feel bad for any injury to a hard-working young athlete, hope he heals up soon.
Main relevance for Michigan, is that there are now only 3 scholarship RBs on OSUs roster this year, and RB is obviously a place where injuries can and do happen frequently. Just as we have areas (QB, DT, LB) where an injury would be a major problem, I think OSU's RB room is in a similar situation.

I know people love to complain that paying insane money to recruits is going to be the end of college football, but situations like this is why NIL matters.
Injuries suck to hear and I hope he recovers.
August 16th, 2022 at 4:39 PM ^
I thought that situations like this is why student athletes go to class (and move to medical scholarships). Damn I'm getting old.

Username checks out.
August 16th, 2022 at 6:09 PM ^
Why Pinto?
August 16th, 2022 at 6:29 PM ^
Belch...
Why not?
August 16th, 2022 at 6:30 PM ^
Is that no longer an option alongside the NIL deals?
August 16th, 2022 at 9:27 PM ^
If you take the NIL money, still go to school and get a meaningful education then its win, win.
August 16th, 2022 at 4:34 PM ^
Hate to hear about kids getting hurt regardless where they chose to play school.
Hopefully he has a fast and full recovery
August 17th, 2022 at 9:08 AM ^
I agree.... even if they don't go there to 'play school'
August 16th, 2022 at 4:35 PM ^
Hate to hear any athlete gets hurt enough that they can't play.
August 16th, 2022 at 4:35 PM ^
Agreed - you never want to see a major injury happen to one of these kids.
Best of luck Evan - hope you come back better than ever in 2023. We want to beat the Bucknuts with their players healthy.
August 16th, 2022 at 4:37 PM ^
Wish him a fast and full recovery. Sucks to see kids get hurt and miss a year.
August 16th, 2022 at 4:38 PM ^
He had a really good spring too and seemed like he was going to play a role. Sucks for the kid
August 16th, 2022 at 4:50 PM ^
This just means that their fourth string will run for 1500 yards and 20 TDs this year. Am I doing this right?
In all seriousness, hope he's okay and he recovers well. Injuries suck no matter who you play for, but OSU is the one school where someone gets injured and the guy who steps in to replace him is better every single time.
August 16th, 2022 at 4:55 PM ^
Sucks for Evan. Don't think it will impact OSU in any meaningful way.
August 16th, 2022 at 5:31 PM ^
It sure will depth-wise. Can't ever get through a full season without RBs getting dinged up along the way.
Sure, Henderson is going to be the man, but Pryor was expected to play a dynamic role, more of a receiver out of the backfield whereas Williams would specialize in short-yardage duties. If this were the NFL, Pryor is the type of guy who would be considered a "third down back."
Dang.
They already converted one RB to LB midseason last year. Too late to undo that as he's an expected starter on defense.
August 16th, 2022 at 6:35 PM ^
Have to agree with Bucky's point. Having a stable of running backs is more than it used to be, it's critical to have diversified, top-shelf talents to make life miserable for opposing DCs. Pryor isn't third string because he's not quite as talented, but because his specific talent isn't used as much in OSU's packages. We wouldn't want to lose Dunlop or Mullings, either, for the same sort of reason. I wish the kid well and to have a complete (post-November) recovery. We'll need help down in the shoe this year, hopefully in the form of inclement weather.
August 16th, 2022 at 6:38 PM ^
Your linebackers seem iffy to me. Eichenberg and Chambers, a converted RB. Also not much depth at CB either. OSU’s defense is going to interesting to watch.
August 16th, 2022 at 8:00 PM ^
I too am concerned about Chambers at LB. Eichenberg I think will be fine. Chambers played a miserable game last year when they lost to some team...don't remember who...I think it was 41-26 or something...anyway, Chambers played hesitantly that game. He'd better be much better this season.
Also true that CB depth is an issue. But not as crucial as previous years when they started 3 CB with a single safety...now the premium is on safeties because they will play 3 safeties and only 2 CBs. But yes, they only go about 4-deep confidently at CB.

Dude, why are you here? I get your ilk have a problem writing the University of Michigan. Fine. But you chose to come here and make a profile. Doesn’t an Ohio State University have a site dedicated to OSU sports? I wish you the best, but it is the height of irony to come to Mgoblog and not acknowledge the school the blog writes about. Further, why waste the time? I could care less about the other 116 school’s blog. I only visit this one because I care about the University first and the sports second.
August 16th, 2022 at 8:43 PM ^
Chuck is a long timer and a welcome foe around here. Doesn’t shit on us for no damn reason, isn’t a troll, and has stated why he’s here: because the community here more suits his personality and the content is good.
August 16th, 2022 at 11:33 PM ^
Didn’t say he was a troll. The content is good. My thesis is predicated on the childish habit of OSU fans to not say Michigan. If he can type “Michigan” I would say sorry and drop it. His court.
August 17th, 2022 at 1:09 AM ^
Content is good and childish habits... seems like he fits in pretty well here.
August 16th, 2022 at 8:45 PM ^
Because rivalry, man.
This is the greatest rivalry in the history of North American sports! Let's enjoy it.
August 16th, 2022 at 10:24 PM ^
North American sports
So this implies there are bigger rivalries elsewhere in the world. What's bigger than Michigan and t(tm)OSU regardless of location?
August 16th, 2022 at 11:01 PM ^
I suppose I'm leaving open the possibility that some European futbol rivalry could be bigger, or something. Possibly Italy vs. France? Or like maybe when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
I know, I'm probably underselling it.
August 17th, 2022 at 12:25 AM ^
Those Germans sure steamed a navy a long way to Pearl.
August 17th, 2022 at 12:26 AM ^
Not underselling it. It was a sincere question.
But even in futbol, I'm trying to figure out what has been a thing for over a 100 years and had so many championship impacts?
August 17th, 2022 at 12:50 AM ^
So I asked Dr. Google and got this. There are many other sites too but this seemed consistent.
https://www.sportskeeda.com/sports/top-10-biggest-sports-rivalries-in-t…
#10 Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic (Tennis)
#9 Green Bay Packers vs Chicago Bears (National Football League)
#8 Arnold Palmer vs Jack Nicklaus (Golf)
#7 New Zealand vs Australia (Rugby)
#6 Lewis Hamilton vs Nico Rosberg (Formula One)
#5 Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier (Boxing)
#4 Los Angeles Lakers vs Boston Celtics (Basketball)
#3 Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees (Baseball)
#2 India vs Pakistan (Cricket)
#1 FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid (Football)
#10 is definitely entertaining and we're witnessing generational brilliance. But they don't have the all year intensity of The Game.
#s 9, 6, 4, 3 don't move the needle for me and Michigan v.TSDS has greater longevity.
#8... they're FRIENDS!
#2, Ugh! NOT a rivalry when the overwhelming outcome is likely to be a tie. Maybe they get some extra credit for being nuclear powers with chips on their shoulders and the silly posturing that occurs daily in Kashmir. But they lose all those points for freaking cricket. A game that takes DAYS to complete a game.
#1, I think Rangers v. Celtic is more the definition of a rivalry that we all can relate to.
I vote for Rangers v. Celtic as one of the world's great rivalries and a la the futbol angle you were thinking of.
I absolutely buy #7 for culture, impact, intensity, etc.
Ditto for #5... and they get a pass on longevity because boxers cannot beat the hell out of one another for 117 bouts.
But while those three are amazing rivalries, my biased ass thinks vis-a-vis Michigan/TSDS, Michigan wins.
August 16th, 2022 at 10:28 PM ^
I'm glad you're here and appreciate a lot of the insights you bring.
My hope, however, is that come end of November we're discussing how your fanbase is tolerating a second loss in a row in The Game.
August 16th, 2022 at 9:20 PM ^
Chuck and John Ross are okay in my book.
Don't act like they're dregs from 11 Warriors or (R)ape (C)ondoning (M)isogyny (B)rahs.
August 17th, 2022 at 6:23 AM ^
I fully agree with you, unfortunately i already lost this battle years ago, apparently on this board people enjoy hearing from buckeyes, who knew?
August 17th, 2022 at 12:13 PM ^
While they are certainly biased, just like we are, they also know a lot more about their team. His contribution on this thread is a great example. I had no idea what the specific role of this back would be. If they are providing info and not trolling, let them have their say.
Anyway, it sucks to see a major injury for a player, regardless of the team.
August 17th, 2022 at 2:26 PM ^
"I could care less about the other 116 school’s blog"
Then this isn't a problem right?
August 16th, 2022 at 7:50 PM ^
Wow, you guys switch players from offense to defense like we do? Never thought that would be necessary with the typhoon of 5* you bring in every year. Cry me a river.
August 16th, 2022 at 9:08 PM ^
Geek, sorry my friend - a “typhoon” of five star players? Last I checked (for the 2021 season) - the Bucks only had sixteen - yes, 16 - 5* players on their roster.
As a point of reference for comparison, Alabama had 14, while Clemson had ten.
It looks like the Bucks had more 5* players on their roster than the rest of the B1G combined.
Oh, I get your point….
August 16th, 2022 at 9:21 PM ^
Oh, I get your point….
The sarcasm font isn't installed on your computer?
:)
August 16th, 2022 at 9:59 PM ^
Williams is… well not that great. I think the expectation was that Pryor would take over the RB2 role with Williams being used in short yardage. This definitely impacts them.
August 16th, 2022 at 4:57 PM ^
Oh jeez. Does that mean they’re down to just their first and second string 5-star running backs?
What will they do after they run for 150 yards each?
Nail-biting time.
August 16th, 2022 at 5:26 PM ^
The dude replacing him is a 4-star running back. Clearly, it's a step down in talent.
August 16th, 2022 at 7:25 PM ^
Wait, so the 1st, 2nd and 3rd stringers are all 5 stars?
I was kidding originally, but apparently I was not!
August 16th, 2022 at 5:00 PM ^
Henderson is going to be a problem. A big problem. Dude’s good.
August 16th, 2022 at 5:04 PM ^
You can say the same thing for Corum and Edwards
August 16th, 2022 at 5:27 PM ^
I never wish for injury to any player. Hoping his recovery is quick and complete.
August 16th, 2022 at 5:33 PM ^
That sucks to hear. Let's hope he has a speedy recovery. I wanted to see what he would do after Michigan knocked out the first and second string running backs during the first quarter of the game
August 16th, 2022 at 5:36 PM ^
That's what he gets!
August 16th, 2022 at 7:08 PM ^
So many classy people on this thread: yet this is the guy we all think of when we think of the other team's fan base.
August 16th, 2022 at 7:26 PM ^
Reading the enemy blog, many blame Ohio State's turf for the historical rash of injuries. Seems like that would be fixed if that were the reason...
August 16th, 2022 at 7:53 PM ^
I was under the impression the shoe would have new turf this year…. ???
The red is so washed out it looks pink, not a good look for a “flagship” football school.
