What's the next step we can take re: getting rid of Brandon?

Submitted by Erik_in_Dayton on

I just had the chance to digest Brian's description in today's UV of Sam Webb's post saying he thinks Brandon will survive long enough to possibly keep Coach Hoke.  It reminds me that I would like next season to not feel like someone is pulling out my teeth with a pair of pliers.

What can those of us who want Brandon fired do that we haven't done already?  People have mentioned creating "Support the Team/Fire Brandon" tee shirts.  That sounds okay, though I'm personally not in a good position to make that happen for people who live in AA.  It wouldn't be the most powerful thing, I assume, but I like the idea of those shirts showing up on TV in shots of the crowd during games.

Does anyone have any other ideas?  Or has the message been sent, and are we now at the mercy of President Schlissel?

The timing of his demise is in the hands of mark dantonio now. If he were that smart he would keep it close all game and make hoke look as competent as possible while still winning. That's the only way I see it being even a close game

Hey, everybody wants to beat Michigan State, but I think if you step back and take a look at the situation, these are going to be some crucial weeks for this staff and especially Brandon.

Since ConcussionGate, Michigan's PR department has been working tirelessly to flip the narrative.  We have seen new concussion protocols installed, a long series of controlled media appearances, lowering student (and maybe general) ticket prices, and statements made by every team in support of DB.  Whether these moves were right or wrong, this is clearly a PR campaign to get support back behind DB and the athletic department.

My point here isn't to say we should stop focusing on the team or starting rooting for opponents, but rather to say that I think the OP brings up a valid concern.  If Michigan is competitive on Saturday or pulls off a miracle win, it could very well be the spark that keeps the pressure off the athletic department the rest of the season.  I think there a lot of people that can see through these PR moves, but if the pressure disappears, we could be stuck with these administrators for a lot longer.

There's absolutely no way Brandon keeps Hoke. The last few weeks would be nothing compared to what would come to Brandon. Instead of 1,000 protesters, there would be 50,000. He would be escorted out of town.

If Brandon is going to be fired, it must occur quickly.  Think about the process....a group will be hired to find and vet candidates, which takes time.  Then, the new hire must attempt to find a new coach, using a similar vetting process. I don't see this working unless Brandon is gone by OSU.

I believe that Brandon may survive.  If so, in addition to his other indiscretions, he will be in the position of having to hire another coach as I see no way Hoke survives past the last weekend in November.  With what we hear about coach's perspective on Brandon, I don't see this process ending well.

You can't root for Michigan against it's rival AND want Brandon to be fired?

You can't root for Michigan against it's rival AND be patient enough to know it's likely neither Brandon nor Hoke will be gone before the end of the football season?

Just because you're hanging on to that 1% means you can't talk about firing Brandon too?

I'm a multitasker, I can do both.

This season is lost. The upset's not happening Saturday, and it's not happening Thanksgiving weekend, either. Some of us feel there really isn't much to look forward to besides next season. And looking forward to next season gets damn depressing with Brandon and Hoke in the equation. Beat State, of course, but...I'm sure as shit not investing my heart in that decidedly dim prospect. My liver, on the other hand...

can't "un-invest" yourself in this game. You are either in or you are out this weekend. None of this shit about Brandon matters this weekend. Brandon is not playing that I know of. And I can tell these kids have not mailed it in for this season. I am all in this Saturday. If I am a fool so be it, but I am a fool who is going to listen to The Victors beginning to end right after this post.

I'll be watching, and I'll be hoping for a win. But I'll be expecting a loss all the way, both because it's what I rationally expect, and also to minimize the likely disappointment. But disappointment it will still be, I assure you.

Getting our ass kicked Saturday might be a reason to release his firing Monday morning. I think he's fired, we just have to be patient, they are lining up replacements IMO.

For purposes of review (and please add whatever I've missed):

- Schlissel released a statemment expressing a negative opinion of how the Morris issue was handled

- Schlissel has met with the big donors in a semi-scripted interview

- The regents have discussed Brandon at their most recent meeting

These actions have, at least in part, come from the anti-Brandon public outcry. Schlissel has heard it. Anything else from the fanbase may simply be redundant.

Personally, I want to scream "Fire Brandon" from the rooftops until the moving truck backs up to his office. But I think the only thing to do now is the hardest part, and that's to wait on Schlissel.

He's gone.  There's been a million little hints about this from the behavior of Schlissel and the Regents, and the fact that his official twitter account has been silent since September is a clue in that direction as well.

If Michigan pulls off the upset, we win as fans.  If they don't, Brandon's temporary respite from the hot seat is officially over and we still win.
