UM BBall lucked out of two technical FTs yesterday

Happy Monday y'all! Huge wins yesterday against the Suckeyes; I've rewatched game highlights of the mens' triumph in Columbus twice already! However, I came across something interesting about the game in the twitters this morning.

Per Brendan Quinn of the Athletic, there were two instances in which it appeared UM coaches/staff were using cell phones on the bench during the game. It has been confirmed that one instance was the DOBO taking call(s) about the teams' post-game food. The other (alleged) incident was a clip that showed Coach Howard seemingly pulling out what appeared to be a phone from his back pocket. Although, it has been confirmed that the latter instance was just Coach Howard pulling out a laminated notecard/playsheet

Per NCAA rules, OSU should have been awarded Technical Foul shots due to the single instance of a UM coach/staff using an electronic device on the bench during the game. So even though the refs were cooking Wolverine flesh and serving it to OSU in an and-one dish most of the afternoon, it seems as though they missed this infraction and it helped us out.

Here is a link to the entire twitter thread by Brendan: https://twitter.com/BFQuinn/status/1363621088874426369. I tried to link the individual tweets in the summary explanation for the official word.

Replying to this because it needs to be toward the top.

Even if Quinn corrected himself later in that Juwan pulled a call sheet from his pocket. Either way Quinn can fuck himself for jumping to conclusions. You know damn well he wouldn't do that to precious Izzo.

To each his own, but I have stopped listening to the Moving screen. Seemed a waste of time to me. Quinn always came across as if he had just rolled out of bed and put zero prep into the subject matter. Dylan was just the opposite. I envisioned him sitting behind 3 computer screens and volumes of printed charts and stats on his table top, just waiting to bedazzle us with a never ending stream of statistics. Maybe it has improved since I quite listening.

i prefer the style of Matt from Endless Motor.

Going to be pretty hard for 3 refs to watch the game and the benches.

Although the 3 yesterday weren't watching the court so maybe.

This is like people on their couches calling rules infractions on golfers based on tv angles.

This was an atrocious call but not for the reasons you suggest. The restricted circle is only for secondary defenders, i.e., not for an on-ball defender. An on-ball defender can be "charged into" even if in the restricted area, i.e., there can be an offensive foul.

This wasn't, but it could be.

Who gives a fuck, Brendan Quinn is a tool. If you’re any type of journalist you should wait for the facts before speaking especially in the Howard case, every game he pulls that out of his pocket

It’s come out that phone guy was taking a call about post game meals for the team and Coach Howard was looking at a pocket play sheet. This is a non-starter.

OSU got their asses handed to them on their own floor, all while getting ref home cooking. Let that feeling rush over your bodies Buckeyes,  because it’s about. fuckin’. time.

Except they didn't luck out because Chris Hunter is the Director of Basketball Operations, not a coach who was dealing with logistics, thus NOT a violation. Also Juwan was using a laminated play sheet that "looked" like a phone because the video posted was taken by a potato. CAN WE STOP POSTING THIS NON-NEWS? Jesus.

Ohio State was lucky that sterling referring crew saw our defenders push off against the OSU players' arms with their stationary bellies.
