TomVH: DE Max Issaka Offered and More
Just spoke to New Jersey DE Max Issaka (6'3", 240 lbs), and he told me Michigan offered him yesterday. He's not sure if he's going to visit or not yet. I'll keep you updated.
3 Star Ohio TE Jamare Mills (6'5", 244 lbs) was contacted by Michigan. He's calling them back later today. They haven't offered, but want him to visit.
**Michigan is also targeting 3 Star Texas DE Brandon Alexander (6'6", 230 lbs). I don't know if Michigan has offered yet. He's a transplant from Louisiana, which bodes well with Fred Jackson's connections.
(I'll try to keep updating this thread as I get more info)

Don't disagree with this, I just think there's value in making assessments as we go. Obviously a coaching change is going to make earlier reviews of recruiting classes irrelevant.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:05 PM ^
You're being an ass or you don't understand recruiting. Check results today, too.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:07 PM ^
I'm an ass an arrogant ass, but also a dumb ass, cuz I never knew it was a good thing to sign recruits.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:10 PM ^
You sure are living up to your handle.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:38 PM ^
Your right on the one hand, to temper the feelings until actual results come out on LOI day.
Your wrong if you mean to say that Hoke hasn't been doing anything noteworthy thus far regarding recruiting. As of his hire, there were a little over three weeks left and Hoke has been stirring the interest pot quite a bit. Case in point: A 4* LB, committed to a school already, spurns a visit to that school to visit UM. The renewed, and completely new, interest in UM by several highly rated prospects is a good sign for being optomistic about the recruiting finish for this year, and next year.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:42 PM ^
but I never said or implied anything remotely resembling anything in your post.
Regardless, all the stuff you just mentioned is noise. Interest is nice and a good sign for the future, but there's no prize for coming in second in recruiting.
January 20th, 2011 at 3:53 PM ^
we all must be overjoyed and maniacally optimistic about everything Hoke does. The fact that a 4 star LB MIGHT BE VISITING CAMPUS cements Brady Hoke as the second coming of Jesus Christ himself. Any Questions?
January 20th, 2011 at 4:20 PM ^
You did state that we need to wait until LOI day, which is true, but it is also true that Hoke is generating interest in UM football amongst players that wasn't there before. He is "tearing up the recruiting trail", so to speak, by generating that interest, but until they sign with UM, that is all it is. Interest.
January 20th, 2011 at 5:13 PM ^
if you mean to say that Hoke hasn't been doing anything noteworthy thus far regarding recruiting. . .
Which I didn't. That's, like, what a strawman argument is. You invented an argument that I never made or even came close to making, then railed against the invented argument. You lose.
January 20th, 2011 at 9:27 PM ^
Look, it's not necessarily a "straw man" type argument. I didn't state as a fact that you said Hoke hasn't been doing anything noteworthy thus far regarding recruiting. As it is, it isn't what you claim it to be. It is merely a statement I made based on wording in your original statement that could be taken several different ways, thus the "if you mean" portion of it. A simple denial of my statement as not being what you meant, and maybe even a correction, was all it really took.
Regardless of the distraction of straw man arguments and the fact that you felt the need to defend your manhood here, the truth is that Hoke is doing something right now on the recruiting trail that not many here had thought possible a mere week ago. Time, and Feb 2nd, will tell if Hoke is truly a good to very good recruiter, but right now the good news we, as UM fans, are seeing daily now is great. I'll take the "possibles", in regards to recruits, and news of their visiting us, over decommits anyday.

on flight tracker zig zagging the country.
Now that would be something well worth tracking!!
January 20th, 2011 at 2:11 PM ^
He probably made the flight paths spell out "DEFENSE" across the US. Just because he can.

Maximus Issaka your QB's punk ass
January 20th, 2011 at 1:59 PM ^
The kid seems like a freak athlete that could play DE or even some linebacker. Seems to be in the Brandon Graham mold when he was coming out of high school. This would be a great steal.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:43 PM ^
Is that you?

Haha I know, I know, but in all honestly they are extremely comparable from the standpoint of where they were at coming out of high school. BG obviously was very highly touted, being a 5 star. But, as far as height, weight, 40 time, and skill set of that hybrid OLB/DE mold, the comparison is kind of scary.
January 20th, 2011 at 3:42 PM ^
Fred Jackson would have said, "he's like Lawrence Taylor, except he hits harder and is a better pass-rusher."

I think this class is shaping up to be solid, if not particularly exciting. I think that's the best we can hope for... stop the bleeding and be prepared for some domi-fucking-nation in the 2012 recruiting class.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:01 PM ^
to be sweeping in on the chaos of another program? Feels better.
With empathy, thanks Pitt.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:01 PM ^
Pitt on 1/6. Let's see they have had 3 head coaches in the last 6 weeks or so.
He is a 3 star guy to Rivals with offers from NC, NC State, Michigan State, UCF, Rutgers and Maryland.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:03 PM ^
Rutgers is our main competition. Local kid plus Rutgers hired Pitt's main recruiting assistant coach. Good move by Schiano.

Was high on us before RR's departure. Hope we can get in on him.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:03 PM ^
Bob Davie was right about Mattison saying "Michigan hit a home run" , now everybody wants to come fix this defense and Michigan/San Diego State weren't even on his list before
January 20th, 2011 at 2:04 PM ^
Tom, any word that Hoke is making a final run at Wright?
January 20th, 2011 at 2:12 PM ^
Wright told me last week that it was too late, but you never know. I know he really likes MSU and UNC.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:42 PM ^
Wright got an in home visit and offer from Schiano 2 days ago. They are def in it for him right now. He's visiting them this weekend.
UNC pulled his offer.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:05 PM ^
Scout says he's a relentless pass rusher...let's hope Hoke is relentless in his recruitment of him.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:05 PM ^
Take that, PITT! (aren't they currently trying to poach one of our prospects via the old coaching staff?)
January 20th, 2011 at 2:08 PM ^

This is terrifying, yet also mesmerizing
January 20th, 2011 at 2:15 PM ^
Thanks for the hard work Tom. Keep it up, we all appreciate it. And keep it up Coach Hoke!
January 20th, 2011 at 2:25 PM ^
Tom just got busy all of a sudden. Thanks for all the info.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:59 PM ^
Haha Mr. Maurice Clarett as your avatar, classic...
January 20th, 2011 at 2:43 PM ^
According to scout.com, Mills only has a 2.1 core GPA, yet rivals.com asserts he has an offer from Duke? Doesn't compute!

I like the fact that we are getting more recruits on D, however, aren't we in need of DT's and if so have we heard any any others possibly coming or at least taking a look at us. I don't really think we are in critical stage here, but if not this year hopefully we can finally get some nice DT's for next year.

Do the coaches give out TomVH's phone number with every offter they give out?
