I don’t comment on this blog anymore and this is why.

too many of you on here and you’re  taking over the world one cult member at a time.

there will be a reckoning. You can only cry about everything for so long before it all blows up in your face. ✌?

Statler & Waldorf are awesome. Waldorf is the chubbier guy.

For the best Statler & Waldorf check out the Milton Berle episode. They trade barbs constantly and the boys in the balcony get the better of it. Story goes they went off script a bit and like many guests Uncle Miltie forgot he was talking to puppets. I would have liked to seen the outtakes.

The OP is making a mountain out of a proverbial mole hill.  No one has canceled the Muppets, they simply are placing warnings at the start of certain episodes that contain cultural stereotypes.  Big deal.

Fear not, MGoDenizens; the Muppets will be a fixture of MGoBlog forever... or at least until Disney lawyers decide that it is some type of copyright infringement.

Sorry, OP - so few people reading the link and getting the point:

Disney's warning for Muppet show:

“This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures,” the warning reads. “These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now. Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversations to create a more inclusive future together.”

Translation: "We know our founder was anti-semitic and half our original cartoons were racially insensitive. We know we currently kowtow to China for the dollar bills. Please ignore that and keep giving us your money. Here, we'll even put this message that points out how bad things like racism are bad. We won't take it down (you know bc of the money), but we'll point out how moral we are so you can feel good about giving us your money".

When will this whole "cancel" thing run its course? Everyone's doing it, not just one group of people, and it's getting tiring. There's a danger to groupthink, especially when it's all over the place.

There is no canceling happing here.  Disney is not canceling the Muppets, they are doing the opposite:  bringing old reels out of the mothballs and streaming the content.

They are adding 12-second warnings to the start of episodes that contain racial stereotypes so that sensitive types can turn the channel.  It is pretty brilliant if you ask me.

I’m just going to come out and say it. I never got the muppets. Just never enjoyed the series or characters. I immigrated to this country when I was 5 around peak popularity time and it just didn’t click with me.

im mostly surprised anyone is still watching old ass shows when there is so much better content out there.

that being said, I’m for the Mgoblog tradition. It’s a thing of joy. And I’m for joy.

I never found the muppets to be that great either. Nor did I find Sesame Street to be memorable.

I think it’s largely reflective of the fact that I had Cartoon Network and Nick when older people did not...I can seriously get behind Dexter, Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo, I am Weasel, Powerpuff Girls, Rocko’s Modern Life, and the Angry Beavers all day.

Wow this is dumb. When our family had dinner together on Saturday evenings we timed it specifically to line up with the Muppets. Saw damn near every episode that way. Not a thing about it was offensive.

Fave episodes: Beverly Sills, Milton Berle among others.
