Which one do you want to play? Which one do we match up best against?
Tennessee or Mercer
Who cares? But prolly Mercer
I'd rather play Tennessee's offense I think. Mercer is senior laden ... But really I don't care.
Sorry didn't mean to reply to you. Pressed the wrong reply button on my phone.
Uhhh people that like basketball and are in it to see Michigan win? Just a thought.
By a mile
The one that's not top ten in Kenpom, no matter how inflated that is.
Tennessee has been playing very well lately...more worried about them than Mercer, but Mercer looked great against Duke. Pick your posion.
We have now played 5 games in 9 days. Our boys looked a bit tired in the 2nd half. That shoiuldn't be a problem next weekend.
Sweet 16 - Go BLUE!
We are giants compared to Mercer!
Tennessee is ranked 7th by Kenpom, Mercer 81st. I'll take my chances with Mercer.
That said, confident in the Beilein v Tennessee matchup.
Kenpom doesn't mean nothing.
Neither will be easy, but there's no question that things have broken our way so far; I came in to the tourney thinking an Elite Eight appearance would make this an unquestionably successful and satisfying season. That way is now very open... And possibly much more.
Mercer all the freaking way. TN is actually probably much better than their seed indicates. I'll take the Cinderella that has a week to cool it's jets and give Beilein a week to prepare.
Rather not face the #7 ranked kenpom team, thanks. (Mercer is #81.)
Let's just focus in Texas guys.
... But probably Mercer.
Play well and we're better by a significant margin than either.
but Im rooting for Mercer
If Dakich and that cool white dude from Mercer have a halftime dance off I am all for Mercer.
Louisville. I dont care what the question was, I want revenge!
Mercer all day. We struggle against athletes, not systems. Dogs win with coaching and by making shots. We're just not going to get outcoached by anyone, and our length and awesome shooting should neutralize their shooting.
This is almost like asking "Would you rather play Dunk City or any of the other teams they beat?" As always... play who you play, and then win.
Huh? Mercer beat Dunk City to get into the tournament.
Mercer. If Morgan continues to bring his A game, UM is a tough out.
The one with the orange colors.
But I am sure beilein will have them ready for either just fine.
Growing up a Vanderbilt fan I hate Tennessee. Add in Fulmer voting us 4th in 1997 and it's too much to bear. I hope Mercer destroys them and barring that, I want their entire team to come down with the bloody flux two hours before we play them.
Bloody flux...that sounds graphic.
It's how Daniel Shays (of Shays' Rebellion) died. And it does sound very uncomfortable--http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dysentery.
Mercer's center is out for tomorrow's game with a concussion - considering our rebounding today...
Both have bigs who are central to their success. I knew a bit about Tennessee's Stokes but I was througly impressed with Mercer's Coursey; that guy can ball and is a true Center, something not seen these days. Morford will have their hands full with those two. Guard play probably leans toward TN but again, Mercer has guys who can ball, SRs at that. I would probably lean toward Mercer but not just becasue Ken Pomeroy says so.
Can we stop with Morford? It is a dis to Morgan these days
They both play dude. That's all it means. How in any way am I slighting Morgan? Does he play more? Yes. But Horford plays meaningful minutes as well. You're overthinking it.
the more apt name would be Morgand.
Boy were fukked next year without morgan. Whats beileins plan if mcgary leaves or hurt?
Win The Game!
We do not match up well with Tennessee
Agreed. They have guards that can shoot & penetrate, and they have muscle in the paint. Their defense should be able to match up well against in terms of height and speed.
They suck at offense and five days ago their entire fan base was clamoring for a Bruce Pearl return... and I'm not making that up.
Anybody able to explain why Kenpom loves Tennesse to much?
they're the best team Wichita State beat? Gotta justify the 1-seed...
You don't know what kenpom is do ya?
When they win, they tend to blow out teams.
They are great in transition, physical downlow, and McRae is a elite 2-way player on the perimeter capable of shutting down Nik or Caris.
They hammered Virginia, who is probably the most overrated team in the country.
My guess is that KenPom gives too much credit for blowouts and Tennessee has a bunch of those (including one against Virginia). It's really hard for me to believe that a 12-loss SEC team is anywhere near the 7th-best team in the country.
Regardless, I'm a Mercer fan tomorrow.
Mercer by a lot. Both can be dangerous but Tennessee fights down low and on the glass so probably a worse matchup for us.
Brad Binder, owner of Gray's Sports Almanac, said so. And he also said we'd win. So we've got that going for us. Which is nice.
Had the exact same thought
Quite a few people were worried about Texas, but JB was ready for everything they threw at us. I have faith in him and this team. Between the two , I hope we face Mercer.
As long as it isn't Dook I don't care but probably Mercer
Mercer Mercer Mercer Mercer Mercer Mercer
81st in Kenpom or 7th. 77th in sagarin or 20th. This isnt even close. I think we know Tennesse isnt quite the 7th best team in the country, but theyre atleast top 25. The gap is pretty large between the two teams.
Obviously it would be better to play Mercer. The only way you could argue that Tennessee would be the better matchup is if you were scared of our guys not playing well against Mercer but I trust Beilein to make sure their ready to play.
Mercer. They shot their load against Duke.
They looked great. Great. Prefer Tenn
Three-way comparison for the board...
|Avg Score Margin||9.3||+9.7||+9.5|
|Effective FG %||55.40%||54.1%||49.4%|
|Off Rebound %||26.50%||29.8%||38.6%|
|Opp Effective FG %||49.20%||46.5%||45.8%|
Either one is fine by me. I actually think Mercer is the better matchup because these cinderella teams tend to struggle once a team has a week to prepare, while UT seems a bit more athletic and has played enough tough games recently to be on a bit of a roll.
I'll be in Nashville next Friday with two buddies (both UM guys). I want Tennessee to win.
Tennessee has significantly better offensive rebounding and defense. Teams that are good at offensive rebounding are Michigan's biggest problem, outside of Texas which looked like 5 tall football players trying to play basketball the way they were shooting. I doubt Tennessee will shoot that badly.
I remember Ron mercer
The team that didn't beat a 1-seed by 35 please
Kinda cool story bro. I live in and around the Macon area. I work for the Macon-Bibb fire department and was stationed at hq which covers Mercer's campus. I've been in and around that place so many times. It would be really cool to see Mercer win and make it to the Sweet 16 and face Michigan. Everyone around here was so pumped up about that Duke win, it would be nice to see it go one more game. Even for them to hang around and lose by single digits to Michigan would be great for the city.
I'm ready for a repeat of the 2011 game.
I like the unknown factor! Much more exciting. Tennessee has been on TV a lot lately, and they should have lost to Iowa anyways#
I was at the bowl game in FLorida when they murdered us. Payback in any sport is good. Plus they still think Manning should have won the Heisman....
