The tastiest serving of schadenfreude yet delivered by Gregg Doyel of the Indianapolis Star
This is so comically over the top. It's beyond finger-licking good. I may make a poster out of this column.
Doyel: National title for Harbaugh's cheating would render college football meaningless
Understand this: We could be days away from Jim Harbaugh hoisting a national championship trophy to cap a season in which he was suspended twice for cheating – the first three games of the regular season, and the last three – because of two different scandals that helped the 2023 Michigan Wolverines achieve greatness.
When that time comes, if that times comes, college football will be thrown into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, to borrow from a book Harbaugh likes to thump. That’s from the New Testament, Matthew 13:42.
Perhaps it is right and good that Jim Harbaugh be remembered as one of the horsemen of this apocalypse. Because if Michigan wins the national championship in a season it was popped twice for cheating – violations that helped this very team – college football will become like something from the Book of Ecclesiastes.
Meaningless.

Texas spends $ 800K for an OV.
Ole Miss has prospects driving to their signing ceremony - before they have officially committed - in Lamborghinis.
Both these situations are fine.
i value a burger at the Brown Jug - especially during Covid - as much as anyone can. But - given a choice - I think the Lamborghini or $ 800K for the OV are “worth a bit more”.
The truth is - Harbaugh advocates revenue sharing - and, would take a lower salary if it was implemented. THAT is why everyone is targeting Jim.
Go Blue!

Just this signing day an OSU recruit openly admitted talking to the OSU coaches during a dead period. It's all garbage.

This isn’t schadenfreud, and I regret clicking your post because I’m up for schadenfreud. I’m not up for idiotic clickbait articles.
January 4th, 2024 at 6:24 PM ^
Wow. I am so sorry, my dude. I hope you find support during this difficult time.
January 4th, 2024 at 6:04 PM ^
You derive schadenfreude from this?
I felt neither guilt nor pleasure reading that.
January 4th, 2024 at 6:04 PM ^
So I looked and I didn't see any article from Doyel talking about Kirby Smart and his Georgia teams having something like a dozen speeding arrests in a year, including one incident that led to someone's death. I didn't see an article about Art Briles at Baylor or High Freeze at Ole Miss. Apparently none of those awful things mattered to old Gregg.
January 4th, 2024 at 6:07 PM ^
Just another clickbait whore.
January 4th, 2024 at 6:08 PM ^
What an asshole.
January 4th, 2024 at 6:08 PM ^
This is not schadenfreude. I’m not sure you understand what the word means.
the is is douche pandering to his readers. I’m guessing Purdue / Indiana fans are more likely to thinK Michigan cheated. It also gives him clicks from OSU and other fanbases
You get way more clicks bashing Michigan than not.
stop posting this type of asshattery.
January 4th, 2024 at 6:11 PM ^
Doyel's just kind of an idiot and always has been.
January 4th, 2024 at 6:25 PM ^
“Kind of an idiot”?
Ahem, no. He’s an idiot. No additional adjective / qualification is necessary.

Cheeseburgers and shaky iPhone recordings of signals. Who knew that was all it took to take down the rest of college football
January 4th, 2024 at 6:10 PM ^
Stop giving these motherfuckers clicks
January 4th, 2024 at 6:10 PM ^
Do people actually pay to read this stuff?
January 4th, 2024 at 6:14 PM ^
Someone should let Doyel know there was weeping and gnashing of teeth multiple places in the new testament and the old testament as well. Breaking of potshards even!!! He'd really be upset about that.
January 4th, 2024 at 6:14 PM ^
Please don't share this bullshit.
January 4th, 2024 at 6:16 PM ^
I live in Indy and Doyel is on of the reasons I stopped reading the Indy Star. His fake outrage over everything is his shtick. He's a no talent hack looking for attention.

There was nothing tasty about this. In the future don’t read anything this idiot writes. This is horrible. The bar is much higher for this to be a post.
January 4th, 2024 at 6:23 PM ^
Show me on the doll Greg where Michigan football hurt you. You’re safe here, those bad men with the winged helmets can’t harm you anymore.
January 4th, 2024 at 6:24 PM ^
Hope he never hears about Kansas, UNC, Duke and Kentucky in basketball. Or about all the SEC schools combined from the dawn of time. But otherwise, yeah, totally

From the MGoBoard FAQ:
What is the board's tolerance for language?
Calibrate your language to what it would be at a Michigan tailgate with lots of strangers. We don't ban people for expletives (we do track them though) but we do ask that you avoid offensive language. If someone corrects your language (e.g. please don't use "thug" due to racial overtones) try to respect that. Avoid blasphemy too please--in this you can follow the main page writers' example in using cognates like gotdang, goldang, gotdam, or change up religious expressions to made up/generic polytheistic ones like "Pray to the holy Denard" or "the gods."
Why would you share the quotes from the article that you chose to share?
January 4th, 2024 at 7:54 PM ^
IDK, but I just don’t think thug is a racist term. Probably because I always thought of thugs being of the jackbooted variety from Ted Nugent songs.

May the fleas of a thousand camels infest Doyle's armpits.
January 4th, 2024 at 7:00 PM ^
One of the upsides of AI writing articles is that we will no be subjected to the musings of mediocre trolls like Doyle.
January 4th, 2024 at 7:02 PM ^
Gregg Doyel is really clever and important; just ask him. I'm sure he'll write a full-page goodbye column when he leaves the Star ... because he is really super important.

Jesus the recruiting thing violations thing is a MASSIVE tell.
If you describe it as a "scandal" and "cheating" I know you're a dumb fuck right then and there.
And no, I'm not saying it's a nothing-burger, I'm saying OSU self reported 22 similar violations after Day's first season and literally no one gave a shit because they self reported it. Then they self reported another 2 violations 2 years later and... No one gave a shit. This is what we're dealing with, low level minor infractions that are now just blanket SCANDALS! These are unserious people who should be laughed at.
January 4th, 2024 at 7:35 PM ^
When (not if) Harbaugh hoists the championship trophy, I will not weep, and my teeth will remain ungnashed. Maybe I could get a video of this Doyel guy, though. That would be fun.
January 4th, 2024 at 7:36 PM ^
a downward spiral accelerated by the approach of one tsunami and then another – NIL and the transfer portal
so, this guy thinks the existential problems with CFB are because players have more control over their playing careers and aren’t getting totally ripped off? fuck this guy. what a POS
PS I am embarrassed to have read the opening paragraph. Not gonna bother with the rest but as others have noted, it’s not schadenfreude. it’s just angery lonely-guy trash
January 4th, 2024 at 7:39 PM ^
Yep. Kids should be restricted on what college they can go to and how much money they can make to satisfy his sense of "pageantry" when he watches TV or goes to a stadium.
January 4th, 2024 at 7:40 PM ^
Jeez man, bringing in the Bible in describing meaningless vendetta-driven allegations for a football game! SMH Gregg Doyel.
January 4th, 2024 at 8:01 PM ^
Will never understand why Indy Star got rid of Kravitz and hired doyel
Doyel suuuuucks as a local sports writer. Kravitz is probably hated here because he broke deflate gate but he was good at covering Indy sports. Doyel is a hack
January 4th, 2024 at 8:05 PM ^
Pretty sure Doyel is sparta69_420 on RCMB
January 4th, 2024 at 8:16 PM ^
This is RCMB- and 11W-level stupid. With self-righteousness like that i bet he doesn’t get invited to many parties either.

This isn't schadenfreude, it's engagement farming. He's knowingly throwing incendiary commentary out there to drive clicks and revenue. You're freely giving him promotion. Do not do that. Sharing links to this asshat, Finebaum, Screamin A Smith, amongst others, is exactly what they need to survive. You want to remove the hot take artists? Ignore them. It deprives them of oxygen and strangles them.

Not as cool as the book of ezster but still whack.

Few things more grating than that one generation of sports columnists that leans far too heavily on one-word paragraphs for emphasis.
Profound.
