Concerned about defamation from that given the massive amount of screaming during the final line of it very single time it is played.....

Michigan football game tradition proposal
Atalanta Braves do something similar for the word "brave".
What are everyone's thoughts on this? Defamation of our national anthem? Could it catch on? Stupid idea?
...in FB, BB, and Hockey games.
"O" say does that star spangled. . .
I'd rather not do anything remotely similar to what they do. . .
its different since brave is the last word
If we can't organize a Go Blue at the kickoff and at the end of temptation good luck with this.
Temptation is now a lost cause. The band and others trying to cover up the "you suck" with "go blue" only makes the students yell, "you suck," even louder now.
Meh . . . it's the national anthem. Leave it alone.
This has been going on for a long time in the student section already. I know a good number of Maize Ragers do it too, and even have hats referencing it.
For how long? I don't remember it at all when I was there and I'm not that old lol
It's not about Michigan during the anthem. Let the SEC be anti-stars and stripes.
Somehow I expect most sec fans to be more 'murica (fuck yeah) than we are.
Nevertheless I would also prefer to just leave it alone and use the 90 seconds to reflect on and show respect for the greatness of our country.
A 20-yr AF Veteran approves of this message.
Yeah I would lean toward defamation of the national anthem on this one. I've never liked when anyone does anything to distract from the true meaning and purpose of our national anthem.
Umm...pretty sure I've heard this before. Not sure how many people actually do it but it has been done.
I've been doing this since like my sophomore year (08) and I know the Dallas Star's do the same thing on Star.
In all the games I've been to, I've never heard it...and I'm almost always there for the anthem.
I was a student in 2008, never heard it
Now, my season tickets are in section 40, which isn't too far from the student section, still never heard it.
Graduated 2007, my friends and I definitely did this every single game.
Do it I see no disrespect
I already do that.
Kickoff should be-
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO for the kickoff lineup and run and then BLUE when the ball is kicked off.
I hate it, the Anthem is for honoring America, not Michigan (or really, any other entity) but it's nowhere near as bad as North Dakota's version.
I first saw this at a hockey game a while ago and have been doing it ever since. I've never had anyone tell me it was disrespectful. I definitely think what Blackhawks fans do, albeit it's kinda cool (man it hurts to say that), is disrespectful.
is a poor imitation of what they used to do at the old Chicago Stadium. It was authentic, spontaneous and to the heart. Now its just a bunch of people who overpaid for tickets trying to do something that they saw their parents do, feels plastic and contrived like that stupid song they play after goals.
It just feels like either on the back of the ticket or on scoreboard shortly before the anthem there is a reminder to just scream and yell during the anthem to make it seem cool
Not stupid, but no sir.
I think we should all 'Go Brady', i.e. short sleeves, for the entire fourth quarter of all home games regardless of weather.. I kicked off the tradition this year for Iowa; it was freezing at the end of the game but I BELIEVE!

In my opinion traditions happen on their own.... they just take shape within the atmosphere of whatever group. They don't get concocted by anyone.... especially not marketing think tanks. I'm looking at you DB.
With that said, I could definitly understand the argument that a grassroots type movement by the fans to create a tradition would be legitimate.
DB isn't using marketing think tanks to build tradition. The tradition is there. His purpose it to try and make Michigan relevant to an increasingly younger market, and the betterment of the university. Trying to make the Michigan game day experience fun and entertaining is not changing tradition. When there are uniform changes it is done by the team not DB. Please try to think outside the box a little bit.
???????
I didn't say don't change a thing, and by think outside the box I am saying look at the bigger picture of what is trying to be accomplished. Like better facilities.
If by "done by the team," you mean "done by the team at Adidas, who then tells us what we're going to wear," right?
The fact that so many people are buying the corporate synergy-speak coming out of 1000SSS these days hook, line, and sinker seems to pretty much prove DB is even better than this than we thought he was. He's pretty much convinced the fanbase that Michigan spent over a century building a rabid fanbase of kids and adults alike out of sheer dumb luck. (How did we ever do that without a mascot and bumblebee unis?)
Now it's his time to reinvent the wheel, I guess.
The team votes on the uniforms and makes decisions based on that. It's more a recruiting tool than anything. They are also trying to expand the Michigan brand. While I don't agree with everything they do. Look at the improvements that have been made and are coming in the future to all of the athletic facilities.
I'd rather start a tradition of making sure students show up on time for the game.
But that's just me.....
Baltimore fans do this (rather impressively for the crowd sizes of games I've been at I might add) during the "O" of the anthem at O's games. They just love the anthem down there in general though. Been doing huge celebrations the last two years for the War of 1812 and anniversary of Key writing the anthem
A tradition I've always wanted to start--though entirely impractical--is for every Michigan fan in the stadium to pay attention, turn away, and go dead silent for thirty seconds when the opposition enters the field before kickoff. I guarantee a mass of 110,000 expressing apathy in unison is way more memorable than a smattering of ineffectual boos that anyone can hear anywhere.
You don't spit into the wind, you don't take the mask off the old Lone Ranger and you don't mess with The Anthem.
Make it happen. Get a PT job giving prospective students tours of campus and tell them these are already traditions. During new student orientation when the new freshmen learn the victors for the first time, see if the U will introduce your suggestions as well.
"New tradition" is an oxymoron and something that should be left to the FIUs of the world.
and I'd kind of have to agree. Lots of chances to say hail during Michigan games, we should probably show some respect for the national anthem
to pass the dooby to the left.
