Michigan basketball to play UNLV this year on November 19th in first round of Roman Main Event in Las Vegas. Next round would be against Wichita State or Arizona on November 21st
Tark the shark was a force back in the early nineties ?
Those were some fun teams to watch. I remembered that Tark loved chewing his towels, but I didn't know they built a statue of it.
Brian from Rebsgoblog doesnt approve.
He must've been trying the wrong material. Towels made of terrycloth taste the best.
Wow. Only in Vegas ... I hope.
Oh no! It broke your tweeter!
So who’s going? What are the Vegas spots to hit?
Im headed out there.
Vegas is pretty boring. The place shuts down at about 8pm and none of the places serve alcohol. In fact, last time I was there, it was all dudes and no women, AT ALL. Good luck finding something to do all week.
Imagine an alternate universe where the Mormons settled in Vegas and Salt Lake because Sin City
That's a sweet universe. Vegas with several good ski hills within easy driving distance.
Believe it or not, Vegas has a large Mormon population.
I'll be there. My friend Danny Ocean is organizing a little trip. Gonna be 11 of us all together. Just gonna hit some casinos. Right now we're thinking 3 casinos, but may do up to 5.
LV local here: I always recommend Lotus of Siam, one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve ever been to. Other than that, it’s going to depend on where you stay. If you’re on the strip, you’ll have every option, albeit for a premium price. If you’re off the strip or on Fremont, it’ll be a bit different.
Staying at the Cosmopolitan
Ok, Lotus stays as a recommendation. I enjoyed Holsteins, which is the only in casino restaurant I’ve eaten at there. Gordon Ramsay Steak at Paris is also very good, as is Chica at the Venetian. By reputation, any of the Dave Chang or Jose Andres restaurants might be worth it, though again, you’re going to pay a premium price for that. But you’re making a special trip, might as well treat it as such.
Vegas has a ridiculous number of Thai restaurants--all better than anything in Ann Arbor--and most really good.
I'll be at Caesar's. Expect a 2-0 finish.
Caesars gives you the opportunity to do this, which is always an experience. The best (albeit not cheapest) buffet in town:

Im in!
Hit up Circa, downtown. New. Biggest sportsbook in the world. Owned by major U of M supporter, Derek Stevens--who also owns the D and the Golden Gate. Plus Paul Saginaw of Zingerman's fame has a deli inside.
A few years ago I did the tasting menu at E by Jose Andres, I think it seats 10 or 12 max, so of 5 couples dining, we had 3 Michigan alums. We did not know each other beforehand.
I bought a pair of tickets to both games in section 13, row J.
I like Nobu, the Ceasars buffet, the cosmopolitan’s restaurants and food court, Nobu and Lotus by Siam.
Roman Main Event?
Are you not entertained?!?
Is there a character limit on the title and who holds the record for longest OP title?
Also not saying there is anything wrong with this title as it is as informative as you can get. +1
There was one a few weeks ago that felt 50% longer. It was basically a short article.
I think the title should be longer.
Thought it would make more sense to just include all that info in the title rather than just give half it there and put one sentence at the description
The title is longer than the tournament.
man, this is some kinda post. quite a journey.
Title doesn't say game time. Fail.
+1 informative (title)
Would be a fun excuse to go to Vegas, not that an excuse is really needed.
Moar title words!
I hope Michigan plays Arizona.
I hope Michigan plays Wichita State.
Hopefully UNLV is a bit better than this year (156th per KenPom), but this is the type of matchup you want for UM - a decent G5 opponent that is probably a win that will give you a challenge and won't be an anchor down the year.
With a new head coach in his first gig, and his first significant test. But this is exactly right, likely a win for the good guys, and one that won’t negatively impact SOS much even if UNLV doesn’t a bad for their conference
Title doesn't include enough info. Who do we play in round 3/4/5???
#TitleTooShort
Remember when UNLV was good at bball under Tark with LJ, Anderson Hunt, Stacey Augman, Greg Anthony, etc.? Boy they were a great team. IDK how they lost to Duke in '91. They probably had a lot in common with the Fab 5. Those were some great years for college basketball. UMASS under Calipari was also really good for a time with guys like Marcus Camby. Now, these teams are kinda meh. I miss the 90s. I hope this isn't the destiny of our football team.
Don't forget Moses Scurry. He and Hunt were two of my favorites back then. Those teams were fun to watch, almost as fun as the Fab 5.
There are a lot of differences between Michigan football and UMass or UNLV basketball.
At least UMASS basketball has a lot of kids that went to high school with our kids.
"UMASS under Calipari was also really good for a time with Marcus Camby."
FTFY. Without Camby UMass wouldn't have made a sustained impact nationally. It was largely him and a bunch of no-names. I remember Lou Roe and he played parts of two seasons in the NBA. That's it. Personally, whether they're relevant or not makes no difference to me. I can see where it would matter if you lived in New England.
As a recent UNLV grad, very excited for this. UNLV is horrible but it will be my first Michigan basketball game.

Was just in Vegas yesterday (overnight on a road trip). Looks like it’s mostly back in full swing— some restaurants are open for fewer hours than pre-pandemic and staffs may still be a spread thin but mostly it was great and much better than the other tourist destinations I’ve seen this summer.
Bang up job on the title! +1
