Yes, because those two facts clearly trump the fact that the Angels have scored the most runs in baseball this year...

You also realize Kendrick isn't their normal cleanup hitter right? They've already clinched the division so they are just putting out lineups.

They also have the best player in baseball which should probably be scary just a bit

Nathan should not be closer but he still has some value as a bullpen arm. I don't understand why Soria has not been getting meaningful innings. He had a rough transition to Detroit but is probably the most reliable late inning guy.

I thought it was the right move to send Price out for the 9th. When Ausmus came out the first time, I thought that he had no choice but to lift Price. When he actually did go get Price later, why on God's green earth did he bring in Nathan? It worked out, but you can't tell me you had a warm and fuzzy feeling when you saw him come wandering in from the pen.

Well if you're a glass half full person like myself you can see that the Tigers can technically clinch a playoff spot tomorrow, albeit a wildcard spot but they can clinch.

is questioning leaving Price in the game.  Through 8 innings he had faced 3 over the miniumum and his pitch count was low 90's.  The guy throws deep into games as often and as well as anyone in baseball.

Professional baseball players hit good pitches into open areas of the field, its called baseball.

I actually am indifferent with the move Ausmus made last night.  In hindsight I feel as if he should have been lifted after the second hit.  Here is why:  1. Everybody knows how many innings DPrice has thrown over the last five or six years.  Wear and tear, see JV's output over the same period and his current struggles with velocity and commanding the strike zone like he used to.  DPrice has thrown the most pitches in MLB this year and saving even 20 pitches could pay off for the playoffs.  2. He may have been dominant but the radar and the sharpness on his offspeed pitches were clear that the tank was emptying quickly.  3. take him out after the second hit to preserve his chance at the win (even if the two runs score).  4.  adds to three that taking him out after a solid start after his previous start would be building positive momentum.

Go Tigers!

Go Blue!

What if we decided to move Verlander to the pen for the playoffs. We know he hasn't had his same stuff this season and could use a 4 man rotation with Price, Scherzer, Porcello, and Sanchez and have V come in to slam the door. IIRC, the Giants moved Lincecum to the own when we faced them in the WS a couple of yrs ago.

Ausmus has shown to be as stupid and old school as Leyland. Verlander is struggling now because he was used waaay too much in the years previous. Leyland would leave him in for complete games when he could have pulled in in the 6th. You'd think the younger Ausmus would be more in touch with what's going on and not go with starters after the 7th (or beyond 80-90 pitches) but he won't. If I was Scherzer I would take the money and hit the road.
