For some reason your image didn't post, but heres an up to date version of THE CHART.

There's a pretty clear demarcation between the top 8 programs and the runners up (UF, PSU, FSU, Georgia, etc)

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO.

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO.

LETS FINISH THIS THING NEXT WEEK!

Got one a few months ago and…

Got one a few months ago and absolutely love it. But the tricky part is with the hybrid market being what it is now, the used ones are still going for near MSRP.

Like here's a 2 year old one with 51k miles, going for $35,000 (MSRP was probably like 39K or so) https://www.carmax.com/car/23891475

Great for resale tho. But honestly, if i was going to get a Rav4 Hybrid, i'd probably just buy new (although i had to wait for like 4 months for mine)

USNWR rankings (and rankings…

USNWR rankings (and rankings in general) are trash, and a terrible way to compare schools quality. Amusingly UW might be #55 in the US rankings, but they're #6 Globally for USNRW between Oxford and Colububia

https://www.usnews.com/education/best-global-universities/rankings

Either way, UW's academic reputation is WAY better than #55. They're an elite public school, in the same tier as Michigan, UCB and UCLA

You should not need an…

You should not need an escort to not get assaulted in Ann Arbor—or anywhere else in the US for that matter.

That's like saying "she shouldn't have walked home alone". It's 100% victim blaming.

But actually all of RTJs albums are bangers. I like 2 the most, but I feel like I could make a strong argument for any of them depending on my mood.

Love me some Danny, but…

Love me some Danny, but Atrocity Exhibition>>XXX in my book. XXX is a great album, but Atrocity is an all-time great.

Also Piñata slaps

I took a Music Improv class…

I took a Music Improv class through the residential college back in my freshman year in 2009 (great class, taught by one of the jazz professors with the music school, highly recommend it if its still there.), and for "extra credit" he assigned us to go see Ravi & Anoushka Shankar play at Hill Auditorium (tickets were super cheap for students, like less than $10). It was absolutely insane. Thanks to Mark Kirschenmann for having us go to that.

How did i know you'd be here…

How did i know you'd be here with some AJJ.

If you haven't before,…

If you haven't before, highly recommend listening to Ravi Shankar, he worked closely with George Harrison and was hugely influential in the popularity of sitar in 60s music. Also his daughter Anoushka Shankar is amazing too (and his older daughter is Norah Jones).

LCD Soundsystem has some…

LCD Soundsystem has some sick use of random instruments, including a high quality cowbell solo in Daft Punk is Playing at My House

Also another iconic dance-punk cowbell cut: House Of Jealous Lovers by The Rapture (another great DFA label act)

Unfortunately, the World Cup…

Unfortunately, the World Cup is gonna be during the busiest part of the year for him (late November/December - peak football season/start of basketball), so I'm guessing the WC coverage won't unfortunately be as in-depth as it would be for a summer world cup.

Ok gramps!! I love the multiposts! Even more important the memers and shitposters love the night multiposts!!

For some reason, Can't…

For some reason, Can't Maintain never clicked with me as much as People Who Can Eat People and Knife Man did. It's still a good album, don't get me wrong, but when i go back to AJJ its usually one of those two.

But yeah, everything after Knife Man for me has been pretty meh. The Bible 2 was okay, but nothing close to their old form.

Kinda surprised at the lack…

Kinda surprised at the lack of AJJ considering your account picture.

My choices, in keeping with the theme of indie rockness and general hipsterdom (with a little hip hop added in for good measure):

- LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver (S/T and This is Happening are also both close to perfect)

- The Microphones - Mount Eerie ('The Glow Pt 2' is also a almost perfect album, but i very slightly prefer Mount Eerie. The Glow pt 2 is better for getting into to the Microphones though)

- Animal Collective - Spirit They've Gone, Spirit They've Vanished ('Sung Tongs' and MPP are close too. If people interested in listening to Animal collective start with MPP or Sung Tongs, probably listen to everything before Spirit. It's a amazing album, but its super grating on first listen)

- Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly.

- Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

- The Olivia Tremor Control - Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume 1

- Madvillain - Madvillainy

That's the part that's…

That's the part that's annoying me. I 100% do not mind ads (I specifically have my adblocker off for MGoBlog to help support the site), but the autoplay video ads with randomly loud audio that I can't click to mute are super annoying.

I'm guessing they wrote it…

I'm guessing they wrote it previously and just released it, this transfer has been predicted for a few weeks now. Let them take a few days off for the holidays, people.

Seriously?

This site puts out TONS of amazing free content all year—better than the vast majority of paywall websites—and you have the gall to call them out for not giving you MORE free content over Christmas/New Years??

Yes there's a game coming up, but these are people with families and friends who 100% deserve to take some time for themselves over the holidays. They work their assess off all season to keep us entertained and informed, let them be for a few days. Jeez.

+1 Probably the best…

+1 Probably the best restaurant in Ann Arbor, and always my go to choice for really nice dinners (especially after eve re-closed).

I've heard good things about Taste, but haven't made it yet

I had a friend who I met on…

I had a friend who I met on the residency interview trail who did the same thing, but with Baseball. Played for like 7-or-so years after college, and had a handful stints in the majors, but made enough money where he had a sizeable nest egg built up and never had to take out loans for med school, and could live very comfortably throughout.

Much nicer than the 250k of debt I have staring at me.

100% agree, a lot of the…

100% agree, a lot of the fancier places in AA are just kind of "Generic nice Italian restaurant" or "generic nice steak house". Pacific Rim is my call for the best "fancy" restaurant in AA, with Mani Osteria being a close second (not as fancy, but still nice, and I once saw Lloyd Carr eating there which was neat).

But if I was going to Ann Arbor, Frita Batidos for lunch, Mani Osteria, Pacific Rim orThe Raven Club for dinner, followed up with nightcaps at The Last Word or Ashleys, depending on your poison of choice.

LETS GO BLUE!!!!!

LETS GO BLUE!!!!!

Completely agree. It isn't a…

Completely agree. It isn't a great one-to-one comparison. I choose it because the EU and US are closer to scale than the US and the individual European countries.

But I will say, the differences in how covid is tabulated between countries is not too different between how its dealt with in states. States like NYC and NJ have been more aggresive with labelling their deaths as from COVID. On the opposite hand, states like Texas report low deaths from COVID, but have showed a larger spikes in pnuemonia (which is a sequela/superinfection from COVID19). So while there may be more homogeneity in the US, there is varience in how states treat data relating to COVID.

nah i'm good

nah i'm good

Hell fucking no. If we are…

Hell fucking no. If we are relying on herd immunity we have abjectly failed as a society.  Look at other countries. The EU (which is larger in population than the US 500 million vs 300), has far fewer cases than us now and fewer deaths. They've highly limited the spread of the virus through strict quarantines during outbreaks, massive testing efforts, had universal mask protocols, and contact tracing. So they worked hard, quarantined well, and you know what: it worked. The EU is reopening. Germany finished their stay at home order months ago. They have sports again, we probably wont.

Canada is reopening widely as well.

They'll control the virus through these measures over the next year or so, and then when a vaccine comes, they'll have immunity.

Us on the other hand are just playing behind the eight ball the whole time. we refuse to test significantly, barely contact trace, and have no strict quarantine measures and masking protocols for outbreak zones. And for that, instead of coasting with a relatively low number of cases like the EU, we're going to let hundreds of thousands of americans die because we're too damn proud to wear masks.

It's insane.

And then all I hear is "it only affects the elderly". 1. I dont know about you, but i dont want my grandparents or my parents to die if they don't have to. 2. Younger people are affected. I've seen young people in the ICU for this. It's serious. This is a magnitude worse than the flu and it spreads way quicker.

I'm a physician, and I'm dreading the next wave, because the first time people kinda cared (still a generally meh quarantine effort, but it was an effort). Now people dont seem to care at all. And people are going to die from it. Hospitals are filling up in hotspots across the country (TMC in houston is full to bursting right now, and that's the worlds largest hospital complex), and I know it'll just be a matter of time before it happens to me at my hospital.

And people are going to die.

Not just old people from Covid.

Young people. Middle Aged people. People who aren't COVID patients, but rather just casualties of the fact that our medical system will be overrun by this preventable plague. We can only do so much.  If I can't focus the effort I need on a 20-year-old who has a traumatic brain injury because the ICU is filled with 50 people with COVID draining our resources, then I'm going to be livid. And that kid will still be dead. And that has happened in places. And will happen. And there will be nothing I can do about it. Because people want herd immunity as an easy out rather than being the tough Americans we tout ourselves to be, and making sacrifices to save lives of our fellow countrymen.

I'm sick of pulling 80 hour week, trying to do everything I can to help people and save lives, while so many assholes act like I've put upon them the wrath of god because I ask them to wear a mask in the damn hospital. Like they have a god-given right to spread their germs to me and my patients. It's a little thing. I wear a mask 14 hours a day every day now (sometimes having to double up, with a surgical mask over my N95 because I only get one every few days). You can wear one for a half-hour in the grocery store, you're not gonna desat and die. You'll be fine. It's annoying, but really surgical masks are easy to breath through, its just uncomfortable because people aren't used to them.

So don't give me this "herd immunity" bullshit. Because it'll lead to deaths. Deaths of many many people who did not need to die.

Please, people, wear masks…

Please, people, wear masks. It's so easy, you can buy cloth ones for like 5 bucks, and it's huge in preventing the spread of the virus.

If you want things to reopen, you need to wear a mask. If you're not wearing a mask your putting yourself and all those you come in contact with at greater risk.

Yeah, if we don't try to…

Yeah, if we don't try to capture it, there's a solid chance that Chaos would take SDSU, which would be a huge blow to us. Chaos is pissed at us (because its mostly OU people right now), and letting them get a foothold on the west coast along with OSU would be a huge loss for us.

We've been told the whole…

We've been told the whole process takes about 3 days for my hospital. But they might be able to expidite it due to NCAA ties (as a lot of the local testing is done by the major university hospitals)

This is incredibly far from…

This is incredibly far from an underreaction. An NBA player just tested positive for a highly infectious disease that has a 2% mortality rate and a 5 to 12 day incubation period before symptoms show. That means that he's likely been within infective distance within hundreds of people involved with the NBA (including the reporters whose mics he touched like a jackass). So basically they have a large number of people who are possibly infected, and then bring in crowds of 30,000 people to watch said infected people? That's an absolute recipe for disaster.

It's easy to dismiss the disease right now be we "only have two cases in Michigan". But everyone in medicine right now know's those numbers are incredibly far from the truth. It's almost impossible for us to order tests for suspected COVID patients. CDC/US public health has only done like ~10,000 tests, which is nothing.

Basically the CDC guidelines says tests are only for:

1. Hospitalized patients with highly suspected COVID infections

2. Old/Immunocompromised patients with possible contact

3. People who have come in contact with a suspected COVID case or have been to China, Italy or South Korea recently.

We've tried at the clinic I'm rotating at to have people tested, but we've been turned down by public health multiple times, as they did not meet the priority requirements. So it's likely that we have many, likely hundreds of cases of COVID floating around Michigan, currently untested (not to mention the test itself takes ~3 days, and the disease can take 2 weeks to show). Its also horrifying because its very mild in young people, so it can spread widely unnoticed amongst them (Gobert said he felt fine to play today), but be highly fatal for people who are 60+ or immunocompromised.

TLDR: because I doubt you will read through my whole post. We are not under-reacting. This is appropriate. Way more people have this disease that we currently have tallied, we just can't test enough. People will die because of this disease. Likely many. Canceling some sporting events is small fucking news compared to that.

Something I've learned from med school apps a few years ago (and by that extension college apps), even if you think you have the stats and the fit for a school, you might not get in. Some of it just comes down to luck. Sometimes you win the coin flip, sometimes you don't.
