Jake is brilliant and has the demeanor and intellect to be an excellent physician.

Interesting tidbit though: Both posts add at least one extra D, this one has two extra D’s.
It is an M.D. (Not an MDD, let alone M.DDD.).

Smart move.  Made all his med school tuition and then some by throwing five career passes.

I'll never forget him surpassing 3,000 yards at the end of the Citrus Bowl obliteration of Florida, and then nearly bursting into tears when the reporter told him in the postgame interview.  Unbelievable achievement for anyone, let alone a guy that lost the QB job at Iowa.

I had a friend who I met on the residency interview trail who did the same thing, but with Baseball. Played for like 7-or-so years after college, and had a handful stints in the majors, but made enough money where he had a sizeable nest egg built up and never had to take out loans for med school, and could live very comfortably throughout.

Much nicer than the 250k of debt I have staring at me.

Stefan Humphries went into PM&R.  John Frank from Ohio State is an ENT guy who does hair restoration exclusively.  Eric Heiden, the multiple gold winning Olympic skater/Tour de France bicyclist, is an ortho guy.   Short answer-it all depends. Most former athletes do something surgical, but it isn’t always Orthopaedics.

I almost forgot-Carl Tabb  (wide receiver from early 2000s) is a pediatrician-I think he’s a neonatologist. He was excellent when I worked with him.

My work experience with former college athletes is almost universally excellent.  Probably something about self discipline and stick-to-it-iveness that translates well to other endeavors.  Another reason, in my opinion, why college sports mean more than just the won-loss record.
