Gil Brandt says Cutcliffe turned Michigan down

Submitted by flashOverride on

Per Twitter.

If I recall, he was also all about Schiano to Michigan a few days ago. So, yeah.

knowing who the president is and hearing what Hackett laid out as criteria for a candidate, why is it so inconceivable that he may have been offered the job? I don't believe he was but it wouldn't shock me if did happen

No need to freak out people. No freaking way he was offered when Harbaugh hasn't been officially offered. And while M is still one of the best jobs, that doesn't automatically mean everyone's interested. R E L A X.

Greetings Mgoblog. Im new here. Anyways theres some buzz, brought up over on 247 that the Raiders are courting Brian Kelly. Could be huge for our Harbaugh chances, especially important since our number 1 Cutcliffe saying no.

Just hope it is the initial search committee placing out feelers. God, I  hope this Cutcliffe character was never offered. Us fans definitely don't want you as our coach!

Michigan already interviewed him and he turned them down? Michigan wouldn't just offer coaches the job over the phone without an in person interview would they? Other than Harbaugh that is.

No way! Smokescreen, stay away! Not a chance they offered him the job over the phone. Standard operating procedure to put out feelers and gauge interest. Most likely, he just told them he's not interested in the job. Very easy for some of these knuckle heads to spin it and try to make a story out it. So much BS out there right now. JH is coming, all this crap is to take pressure off of him. You honestly think JH is going to talk about or take another job without honoring his current position? Seems we've forgot about the lessons taught by Bo and Jack. Relax people!

Hackett didn't give great timing but he did claim an exhaustive search and a Christmas break timeline. The ONLY person that would have been outright offered at this point would be Harbaugh. Any other candidates are simply being looked at to gauge interest.

Everything about the job (including the "search process") looks worse when things like this happen.  It looks like the University has learned nothing from past mistakes and is simply repeating them.  Next thing you know, Addazio will be "offered" and turn it down.  Then it looks like we can't even poach a Plan H coach.

It doesn't matter whether the offer was made or not.  This is embarrassing, and will continue to be until/unless we get our Plan A/B guy.

Hopefully, as some have postulated, this is just a smokescreen to take the pressure off our Plan A guy.  But if we already know our Plan A guy isn't coming, this may get worse before it gets better.

What hasn't been offered? They may have reached out to him to gauge his interest, but having no interest in relocating and taking a new job is completely different than turning down an actual offer.

But I have a hard time believing Hackett is running around making offers to multiple candidates. It is clear this is a reckless report in terms of the wording. If you believe that Cuttcliffe was offered and turned down the job, you are a bit naive. Consider the fact this report came out the same day that UM supposedly "reached" out to Les Mile agent....the two don't add up. To each his own.
