Gil Brandt says Cutcliffe turned Michigan down

Submitted by flashOverride on

Per Twitter.

If I recall, he was also all about Schiano to Michigan a few days ago. So, yeah.

Look, Michigan is simply checking the interest of candidates. That's it. I hardly believe Michigan is running around just offering the job to people. Everything is contingent on Harbaugh.

Brandt worked as a baby photographer before his flair of discovering football talent led him into the NFL.

Definitely must be true!

These next 2-3 weeks are going to be the death of me.

Cutcliff has done a nice job at Duke but so did Hoke at Ball St and San Diego State.  If it is true that Cutcliff was offered then we should be worried!!!!!!!!!!!  That would be significant sign that NO top tier coach is coming.

The search firm is calling to check many coaches interest. He didn't turn the job down since it wasn't offered. Might not be interested but there is a difference in "turning it down".

And that's it.  They will reach out to many candidates that have no chance of being extended an offer.  Part of due diligence.  Cast a wide net - as they should.

The writer, Gil Brandt doesn't know a damn thing more than anyone here.

Like literally in my post I said "not just gauging interest".  I expect many many coaches have had their interest gauged.  It's the smart and prudent thing to do in case your top candidates turn you down, you know who to turn to next.  But that is not offering a job to someone.  Which is what is being reported.  I flat out do not believe anyone will be offered the job until it is certain Harbaugh will not take it.

I dont believe this at all. Every site seems to have a rumor of someone being offered the job, or declining it. Who is David Cutcliff to decline ANY job? I certainly dont want him, and find it hard to believe Mr. Hackett would offer this job to him. Gil Brandt needs to stick to Ensure and Depends commercials.

Hackett: Jesus, you guys weren't supposed to offer him the job!!!

Search Firm: But I thought you hired us to find the best candidate to balance athletics and academics and offer him the job?

Hackett: No, that was all bullshit. You guys are supposed to distract the media until Harbaugh gets here. My god, it's the easiest fucking job, could you imagine if he actually took it?!!!

Mike and Mike talking right now how Cutcliffe is our 4th choice now and looks bad on us. That is what you report out of all the stuff that is out there? We are going to get a great coach now, I can feel it.

Getting a sneaky suspicion that we are fucked on the cc search, and we end up with schiano for a new year fu gift. Only thing holding me together are the Lions, which is would be the first time ever.

I get the feeling no one knows anything and the only thing Harbaugh has said is he won't even discuss it until after his season is over.

One thing I know, there is almost noone without an extreme Michigan bias saying Harbaugh is likely.  I try to take that to heart.  This Cutcliffe nonsense is just nonsense, but we did hear that we were looking at him a couple days ago so this is not out of the blue.

Addazio and Schiano were also put forth by Sam Webb as names of focus, but now Webb is back on the Harbaugh train.  That smells of Webb caving into the pressure from the fans to me.

Really Gil Brandt is weighing in?  Classic 'I was somebody 25 years ago so I must still be in the loop' move.  Comical.  Maybe he's positioning his buddy Tom Landry for the job.
