Sam Webb's Secret Visitor Speculation
New hints from the Recruiting Roundup this morning lead me to believe (HOPE) that the mystery guest is Trey DePriest. "renewed interest".... "Michigan hasn't been very pertinent for him on the surface for quite some time"....."now he's giving them another look".
Trey was a life-long UM fan who never visited and then committed early to Alabama... fits Sam's narrative.

that is all...

Sam mentioned last week Depriest was a lock of locks for Alabama....he's already made friends on the team, his family loved it there, he took his grandparents there, he's enrolling early etc.... Anything can happen, but that guess seems remote. If it is him it sounds like he just wants to see his favorite(old) team in action.

This is pure speculation on my part but my money is on DePriest as well. The kid sounded like he was so high on us initially. He even cited the 2006 UM/OSU game and the Crable hit (a horrible erroneous call) at the end as heartbreaking. How Alabama ever managed to flip him I'll never know...Anyway, I'm thinking we might still be able to pull of a coup here if things break right. There is immediate opportunity for him here and I'm sure he must see that. Nothing would give me more pelasure than to pull the rug from underneath Saban for DePriest and/or Clinton-Dix...A man needs to have a dream.

horrible erroneous call? Go look at the replay of the call. Helmet to helmet doesn't lie.
October 15th, 2010 at 2:11 PM ^
How did Alabama flip him? If Michigan hadn't gone 8-16 the past two years he'd probably be committed to us by now.
October 15th, 2010 at 3:43 PM ^
Winning a National Chanmpioship will have that effect
October 15th, 2010 at 5:11 PM ^
FYI: you don't have to type "This is pure speculation on my part." Every post in this thread is pure speculation on the author's part.
Carry on.
October 15th, 2010 at 11:00 AM ^
How do you start a new thread? I'd like to get one going on an updated visitor list for tomorrow.
October 15th, 2010 at 11:07 AM ^
You need a 100 MGoPoints to start a thread...
October 15th, 2010 at 11:09 AM ^
You wait and TomVH will put one up for you.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:02 PM ^
we need to push up the points needed to start threads to 500 or 1000. All we are getting is people who want info from TVH. Its annoying. Wait and when he want to give it to you, you will get it
October 15th, 2010 at 11:10 AM ^
Not enough points, hombre.
October 15th, 2010 at 11:10 AM ^
I think we would all agree to take any talented player (regardless of stars) on this team. We need to build depth and let there be real competition for playing time, that is when programs are humming is when no one person's job is absolutely secure and there is strong competition throughout the week. That said, I hope we get another stud (or 2 or 3) on offense, and the rest of the class is defensive players who can contribute right away. Any players that have been listed so far fit that mold, GO BLUE!!!!

DE out of Georgia
October 15th, 2010 at 9:50 PM ^
Rivals 100 DT from Georgia.
October 15th, 2010 at 11:15 AM ^
I would take him over any two of Michigan's current commits. Since we don't even know that he's visiting, though, I'm not going to get my hopes up.
October 15th, 2010 at 11:28 AM ^
I think that's it. Especially the way GA has been struggling.
October 15th, 2010 at 1:09 PM ^
He's not currently committed to Georgia, but it could be him.
October 15th, 2010 at 11:30 AM ^
No idea who it will be, but the current photo on the front of The Wolverine for the "Updated Hot Board: Linebackers" is Curtis Grant, who is the #1 ILB in the Country. He is also the #9 overall player in the Country. That would be nice to get him on campus. Sam also mentioned that if it went well that there was going to be a second visit. Whomever it is has been looking at the depth chart and thinking about playing time.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:34 PM ^
this one makes a ton of sense... but one thing Sam said was the recruits "renewed interest" and I dont recall Grant ever showing interest.
October 15th, 2010 at 11:51 AM ^
Obviously this is all speculation, but DePriest would be a great get. To win in the Big 10, to win anywhere, you need great linebackers. Potentially winning a recruiting battle with Saban makes it that much sweeter.
October 15th, 2010 at 11:51 AM ^
Why do we need another thread like this? No new info. Just more guesses. These are pointless.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:00 PM ^
That's why I don't read it.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:37 PM ^
I get so sick of people complaining about threads on this site. Oh? What's that you say? Somebody else posted on this a couple days ago? OH NO!! (extreme sarcasm). The fact is, if you don't like the thread, don't read it. Nobody is compelling you to left-click every link on the site. Give me a break.
October 15th, 2010 at 1:16 PM ^
100% cosign.
Repeat posts aren't any more irritating to me than any of the other 95 thousand original new posts on any given day about topics that I don't care about, like those dealing with crocs, bow ties, man vs. food, MGoPodcasts, etc etc etc. The internet is an interactive medium that allows the user to choose which information he/she wants to read and which information they want to bypass. People should make greater use of that feature.

i watch it on E!, entertainment tonight and numerous other tv outlets.
October 15th, 2010 at 4:41 PM ^
It has over 100 comments which tells me people are enjoying it.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:04 PM ^
I got the feeling after listening to Sam this morning that it might be DeAnthony Arnett. Just a hunch, another kid that grew up Blue, but claimed he wanted a pro-style..... who knows.... it seems according to a thread on Rivals in the last hour that the 2nd surprise isn't happening now, but it will at some point.... we'll see.
October 15th, 2010 at 2:01 PM ^
This was my guess when the secret visitor thing came out and I still think it's one of the more plausible scenarios.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:08 PM ^
I started this thread topic a week ago and predicted it was Clinton-Dix. However after listening to Sam, I think its either Arnett or DePriest.... because Sam repeatedly mentions the recruit's "renewed interest". A side question... did Lawrence Thomas have any initial interest in us? I ask because I hope its him.
October 15th, 2010 at 3:13 PM ^
Clinton-Dix wouldn't be a surprise and from what I remember he is coming up again for the Wisconsin game with all the other DP players we are recruiting (Hart, a DB, a LB, and the 2012 QB-Patti?).
LT had interest initially, but some negative recruiting by his H.S. coach and the fact that we said he would be more like a Brandon Graham player and would probably get moved to DE pushed him to MSU.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:17 PM ^
Since, we know that one of the mystery recruits is on defense (Jernigan) and one is on offense (?), my guess is that it is Deanthony Thomas.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:20 PM ^
all the way from LA ?
October 15th, 2010 at 3:44 PM ^
I love the fro. I want one...
October 15th, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
If the guy knows who the 'mystery visitor" is why doesn't he just say? This recruiting business is infantile.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:39 PM ^
If he could say who the visitor is, he would. He can't though because he's respecting the recruit's wishes not to.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
When my girlfriends and I talk about a "visitor" in vague terms, it's usually of the monthly variety. Hoping for everyone's sake this is a different matter entirely.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
Boo you for bringing Aunt Flo into this conversation.
October 15th, 2010 at 1:04 PM ^
Jordan Walsh. He's committed to Iowa. This is Michigan vs. Iowa. His next favorite and many thought his outright favorite before he committed to Iowa was Michigan. He's a top 50 player on Scout which is what Webb is affiliated with as well.
October 15th, 2010 at 3:16 PM ^
I hope not, we don't really need any more OL, we need D.
October 15th, 2010 at 1:18 PM ^
Why is everyone disregarding the fact that the visitor is from the South? Ohio is not the South.
October 15th, 2010 at 1:24 PM ^
And since Woody wouldn't allow calling M anything but "The School up North"... Ohio, at least to some Ohioans, could just as well be That State Down South.
October 15th, 2010 at 1:25 PM ^
Ah but it is south of Michigan.
October 15th, 2010 at 1:36 PM ^
Honey, have you spent any time at all in Southern Ohio?
October 15th, 2010 at 1:19 PM ^
He probably was fed a heavy dose of negative recruiting from Chip when he committed to Oregon and decided to not even take his planned visit to Michigan. Now that the Wolverines are having a good season, he may be reconsidering that load of garbage he was probably fed. Having Roh and Lewan on the team really was a positive early on in his recruitment and our offense fits him perfectly which is probably a big reason he was so attracted to Oregon.
October 15th, 2010 at 1:31 PM ^
That would be interesting. It would be cool to have him, Roh, and Lewan on the same team.
