I wish Bo was still here

What a bunch of High School shit.  The Michigan I remember growing up is a distant memory.

he had a plan in place

I'm sure this is all just part of the plan

back to work?

Looking at the amount of points you have, I'd hardly say you work.  My guess is your a student, attending on his "Mom and Dad's" dime.

Nice try

1.  Nothing is clear cut

2.  I support RR because he is Michigan's coach.  I support the current players on this team who bust their ass everyday trying to please people they shouldn't even worry about pleasing.  I really don't care about the other nonsense that goes with it.

3.  Are rumors, speculation and hypotheticals no longer part of this blog?  If so, I missed the memo.

Based on what?

Rivals?  I would imagine coaches are recruiting kids who fit their system.  I would also imagine they extend an offer based on their own assessment, not Scout, ESPN or Rivals.

I gave 2 examples of coaches (Meyer, Brown) who "apparently" recruited a bunch of 4 or 5 stars.  Did they look like 4 or 5 star players?

As for my Ferentz example.  He is an example of a coach who has recruits that fit his system (talent wise, that he recruited, with experience), and then proceeded to go 7-5.  Whether you believe it or not, they were talented (preseason top 10).  Look how they did the past few years with proven players.  Ask the Iowa coaches.  If we were to use the same Rivals rating system, but on a collegiate level, before the season started, many of them may have been a 4 or 5.  To me, if RR is on the hot seat about recruiting, then Ferentz really should be.  Which is nonsense.

We really have no idea if a kid is a 4 or 5 until many years down the road.  So, if you really think about it, shouldn't stars should be placed on the kids after 4 or 5 years and what they actually accomplished?

RR does fine

with the talent he gets.  Now, talk about talent rich without results

Urban Meyer - 7-5

Kirk Ferentz - 7-5

Mack Brown - 5-7

Enlighten me

Who did I attack?  I simply read some blogs, newspaper articles, etc and simply wrote about it.  I believe, for the most part, that Michigan does stand for class.  I'd just hate to see that legacy ruined by people who think what they say or do speaks for the "majority".

not meant to antagonize

Most of my friends went Blue when we graduated from High School.  I love those guys, but they represent the univerisity in a positive manner.  They don't wear their Michigan rings and try to influence people by doing so.  They wear it because they are proud of what they are part of and how they did it.  They wait in line, they respect others and they are very successful, well to do people.  Whether you are "in state" or "out of state" doesn't matter to me, just be mindful of the people who built and maintain the foundation.

just my perspective

don't get me wrong, I loved that 97 team.  Started out ranked like 14th and "proved" it with some very tough wins.  The teams they both played doesn't really matter (rivalries).  Mich. St. would play us tougher than they might play Neb because of the rivalry.  But, at the end of the year, say the last 2 games, especially in the Orange Bowl against #3 Tenn., Neb just destroyed them.  Not even close, while Michigan slipped by Wash. St. and Ryan Leaf.  Just sayin...

It wasn't an "in state" - "out of state"

comment.  It was a statement about alumni with money, who try to influence people because of it.  I don't care if they are from the state or not.  The University of Michigan should not let people (in state or out of state) with money influence their decisions.

Great analysis

I've watched all the games with my son and he is the lucky recipient of my Denard analysis.  The pass he "dropped" into Roundtree was pretty.  He's more than capable of doing that most of the time.  He has missed some of those passes this year and it has to be frustrating to RR (you can see it on his face).  It will come though, and his progression from last year to this year has been amazing.  The next two years will be really fun and Denard is such a "high character" guy, he is willing to put in the work to make himself even better.  When he masters that over the top pass, this offense is going to be scary good.

In addition, if Devin Gardner gets that medical redshirt, has 5 years in this offense, gets Hart, Watkins and a couple other recruits to come to Michigan......how good will he become?

The future bodes well for Big Blue.

By no means am I judging this kid

but, "team" doesn't jump right out at me when I read or see anything about him.

Michigan has very good depth at WR.  Keep the scholarship and go get a hungry kid like Desmond Morgan.

Sorry about that

I listed the results at the time they played.  At that time Wisc was unranked.

Not irrelevant, but relevent to talent and system

I had no expectations for RR's first year.  Did anyone know what to expect?  I never watched WVU play, so it was all new to me.  I love the offense, but I couldn't tell you anything about it coming into the season.  It's complex.  RR has stated that only about 30% has been implemented.  Teams that have the talent, like Oregon, run it almost to perfection.  I think we will be there next season.

Defense can come quicker to players.  Teams all around the country are improving defensive numbers.  I think we will too.

By the way, for comparison, I think RR could have coached that 2005 team to a 7-5 record.  I also believe he could have coached the 2007 team to a 9-4 record.  Strictly because of talent level.

I think he has

He’s not afraid of change.

Michigan knew they were getting an offensive minded coach that runs a totally different offense than previously existed.  RR was very upfront when asked about what offense he was going to run.  He implemented it right away, with players that “existed”.  It was ugly.  I think he would acknowledge that.  He is getting the type of players his offense needs and in the third year of existence we have something.  I didn’t expect it to happen overnight.  I believe next year we will be outstanding.  Is this why DB scheduled Alabama in 2 years?

RR has been honest with former players who did not want to be here.  I believe his current players love him because he’s fair.  He gives them an objective and demands they get the job done.  If they don’t, he tries to find someone else who will. (Change again)  At this time he can only do that with what he has available on his team.

The violations were nonsense.  People are naïve if they don’t believe that most teams in the country don’t do this.  They are also naïve to think that Michigan players in the past were “innocent” of far greater things.

Recruiting is getting better.  With the cloud lifted, players can now be definitive in decision making.  Honestly, once on campus, who wouldn’t want to come to Michigan?

To be clear in my first message, I was terribly disappointed in the Carr teams that had all of the NFL talent you were talking about.  Each time I see one of them on Monday/Sunday nights, I mumble to myself, “how did we not??????”  When you have talent like that, the expectations should be higher.

Lastly, when I stated about “living with 7-5 or 8-4”, that was in regards to this year.  Next year we raise the bar.  I think RR is up to the challenge.

Roh

My hope is that we keep Roh at DE for every play and let him go to work.

Even Money

Home team by 3 is basically even money.

I think Michigan comes out this week ready to play.  I think we will be back in a groove on offense, more of a flow.  We'll see Denard "ease" back into the position.  I think he's been pressing, trying to make the huge play instead of taking what the defense gives him.  I would love to see us have some 9-12 play drives, which gets our offense back in a groove and keeps the defense from being on the field too much.

We need Martin back and Roh on the line.  If we can get some pressure on the QB (he's young) we will finally get some turnovers.  With pressure, someone in our young secondary makes a much needed play and confidence enters the stadium.

I see us playing one of our best "overall" games.  I'm confident we win this game.

A message from above

“When your team is winning, be ready to be tough, because winning can make you soft; on the other hand, when your team is losing, stick by them. Keep believing.”

- Bo Schembechler

Go to any High School

Tell the Head Football Coach that you would like to sponsor a game between the Varsity and the Freshman teams.  You are there to prove a point.  The point is that it's not always about youth.  You are willing to bet that the Freshman will "hold their own" and, your willing to fund the athletic programs for the rest of the year if it doesn't happen.

Then get your checkbook ready.

You still never answered the question?

You said that Woolfolk should start at FS.  How can he do that being out for the season?  Please, for s**** and giggles, state who should have been starting?  You know, with the players who have been available.

Sorry, that was my failed attempt at humor

I was just trying to point out the fact that when something happens after the fact, it is easy to be "spot on".

Not intended that way

If you think about it though, the problems that Gordon has been experiencing, concerning the obvious lack in speed at safety, have not occurred until recently (MSU/Iowa games).  In the first Big Ten game at IU, he seemed OK, I believe he even had a pick.  The next two games, it became obvious he might be out of position.  The bye week arrives, time for the coaching staff to to look back at the film, make some changes.

I believe that is what the coaches are trying to do.

Anyways, everyone is on the record going forward, so let's hope for the best and see what happens.

Glass is half empty

Glass is half full.  The world is full of different people, who have all kinds of different views.  In sports, it's "Monday Morning Quarterbacks".  Everybody is 20/20 on Monday.

It does make me wonder though...

Why didn't Coach Carr start Tom Brady earlier?

Why didn't Bo adjust his style of play before he lost his 6,7 or 8th Rose Bowl?

Why didn't Moeller attend some AA classes?

Hmm........

Exactly what we need

This kid is exactly what we need on defense.  Smart, tough and motivated.  You can feel the appreciation in his answers.  We need more guys like this who want to play for Michigan because of all the opportunities it presents.  Hopefully he will be a 5 year guy.  Come in, be able to red shirt, and develop into an outstanding LB.

Has Michigan Football ever been ranked

in the top 5 offensively, at the end of a season, previously?  Say, since 1969....

Could not agree more

4 turnovers, 1 blocked FG, 2 kick offs out of bounce, penalties, 0 opponents turnovers, injured starting Center, injured starting QB and Michigan is still 1 missed tackle from getting the ball back to tie.  How many teams in the Country could have been in that position to still tie the game?

Let's face it, this team may have felt the pressure to perform.  Youth is part of it.  But, realistically, they are living up to pre-season expectations (8-4, 7-5).

I'm with you, we are on our way.

Could not agree with you more

The bottom line is some "fans" want RR gone.  They comment about every little thing the guy does.  These "fans" truly believe they represent the Team or something.  It makes them feel important, when in fact, they can't take the harassment from a buddy who is a State or Buckeye fan when Michigan gets beat.  Let's make up some excuse.  The easiest thing to do, which is what they have done their entire life, is to blame someone else for their own "boring" existence.

I started coming to this blog to read about recruiting, the players, the breakdown of the games, etc.  I think the guys that run this site do a great job of this.  But, I agree with "His Dudeness", these "fans" that complain about every little thing RR does and says are a joke.  Please, do us all a favor, the next time you are ready to post about Coach, because he made a comment, about HIS team, do it in the mirror.

Who Are You?

RR is the Coach of this Michigan football team.  He is at practice EVERYDAY.  He sees what happens, day in, day out.  He, unlike you, is entitled to state the condition of his team.  No "real fan" continually questions the Coach.  No "real fan" continually boos the players, on their home field.  You think these 18, 19, 20 year old players want to fail?  Do you boo the local High School team because you've been a fan LONGER?  Have you ever heard of the word "support"?  As in, support your team, not,  I give money to a school, so I "need" to see the results "I" want to see.

Loyalty......please.  Have you written a different definition?  If not, look it up and try and comprehend what it means.

Read what Coach said again.  This time, try and understand what he meant.  Don't interpret what YOU want it to mean.

Seriously, are some of you Michigan fans?

What is wrong with what he said?

"They may not love you at the time, but they will later."  - Vince Lombardi

Ray Drew?

DE out of Georgia

Fans??? Ah, right....

You guys crack me up.  True Sophomore in his 6th start throws 2 picks in the opponents endzone and now RR can't coach.  He is the "Coach", they are the "Players", who need to "EXECUTE" the game plan.  Get it?

The whole thing is funny really

Why does anyone care what others are saying about them anyway?  Cheer for who you want to cheer for.  It's not like the students/alumni "played" football when they were at Michigan/Michigan State.  They attended classes (most anyway) and sat in the crowd on Saturday in a drunken stupor.  They didn't contribute anything else towards Saturday's game preparation.  One of my best friends in High School played DE at State.  He used to make more fun of the students/alumni there because they really believed they had some sort of affiliation with the team.  When the team won, they could talk smack, like they made some major contribution.  When they lost, they kicked the dog and cursed at the wife.  It all sounds like Walmart stuff to me!

The other thing to remember with this defense is

only 3 Seniors start, I believe (Banks, Rogers, Ezeh).  If we had some experience at most of the positions the defense could hide a freshman.  Kind of like a freshman QB around an experienced O-Line, Receivers, etc.  Obviously, having inexperience at the majority of the positions isn't ideal, but I have to believe they are getting better because of game experience.  Also, that may have been the best offense we face all year in the conference.

Was that 15 yard penalty called on him?

if so, that may be the reason we didn't see much of him

I was at the game and Carvin started

but as the game went on, I didn't see him out there.  I was wondering if he hurt the knee again?

Seen him twice so far this year

when your watching the game live, you can just feel the excitement in the stadium

He's pretty good either way

and he's only going to get better.  The other one to Hemingway was right in stride.

Iowa Game

Cannot wait to see Lewan against Adrian Clayborn...that is gonna be a great match up to watch.

Carvin Johnson

I was at the game and noticed Carvin Johnson playing early, but I didn't see him later in the game.  Has coach said or has anybody heard anything?

It seems to be coming together

Coach still needs time to implement...nothing solid is built over night.
