Any idea what happened? It looked like a non-contact injury!

I know of people with PhDs from Penn State -- otherwise politically savvy, responsible, highly functioning adults who for whatever reason believe that Joe Paterno's legacy should not be tarnished by his affiliation with Jerry Sandusky. It boggles my mind. And his name is all over that campus. It really does cast a pallor over everything there.

Vanilla is also common in early season games. We've been playing a lot of freshmen and they're not always ready for more sophisticated stuff. You get your "vanilla" packages down and then move on to more complicated play calling as the season progresses.

I think it's still a desirable job. They have a ton of resources but it would take the right person. If you want to make it a great job and still be able to look at yourself in the mirror you would have to somehow re-purpose the culture while still not completely rejecting the old guard, who is obviously loyal to the legacy of Mr. Pedo Glasses.
But the right guy could recruit well out there.

He mentioned someone I have never heard of. Wills or something like that.

I thought he was terrible. His "color commentary" is nothing more than the bombastic mouth diarrhea of your drunk uncle. He didn't seem to do any preparation for the game and is one of the least articulate men I have ever heard. Who did he think blocked the kick in the first quarter? Does he not have a spotter or even a game program?

I thought about that but App State always takes teams by surprise in their opening game, but then after that Power 5 teams take them seriously and they lose by comfortable margins. But it is odd (and a bit scary) that the game is in Boon.

I thought about putting money on this one but this series is so unpredictable. Somehow Sparty alwasy seems to rise to the occasion against ND -- usually inexplicably.

I cringe when anyone gets Michigan's colors wrong, as does this article. We are not blue and gold!

Michigan will have a good plan going forward. Week two defense will not be the same as OSU defense.

The most interesting part of this piece was how poorly Kalis graded out last year. 197 out of 212 returning OGs. Yikes

I met Muhammed Ali in 1993. He seemed like he was in bad shape then. I am glad he has made it this far because he was an amazing person and a breathtaking athlete. When I was a kid the whole neighborhood used to watch boxing. Ali vs. Liston, Ali vs Fraser, Ali vs. Foreman etc. Always Howard Cosell announcing. My sister and I got to stay up late to watch. These days boxing is gone, and when I hear that Muhammed Ali is about to leave this world it's heart wrenching.

That business where Greg Robinson would rub a toy beaver on players was one of the weirdest things I have ever seen in a college football game. Those were dark times. The only thing weirder was when that kid was dinging the bell for Texas Tech and it looked like self abuse.

Everyone on this board needs to realize that we are going to win at least three national championships now, not so much because we have Harbaugh (although he is a good coach), but because of our new strength and conditioning guru MIKE BARWIS.
I propose that we call the results of this new training regime "The Barwis Effect" because it will turn 3 star recruits into killer 6 star machines.

I was going to post something along these lines as well. I don't think sportswriters generally write critical articles about programs in the SEC or whatever (or they don't see them as scandal-ridden) because few people actually believe that it's a common practice to pay recruits. I wish there was more hard evidence that this practice was widespread and not just linked to a few extreme cases (like Reggie Bush).
