My Michigan Man Cave

FATHEAD!
Sorry, my inner Ocho Cinco just came out.
September 26th, 2010 at 11:35 PM ^
I just finished mine in late July. They look a lot a like. I also have a 10 person U of M poker table as the rooms center piece instead of a pool table. It looks awesome Congrats! Not sure how to up load photos or I would share mine as well.
September 27th, 2010 at 9:18 AM ^
So did you buy that or did you build it on your own. Not to copy your style but that poker table is the final piece to my puzzle I think. I still have a half of the room that I need to fill and that would be perfect.
September 26th, 2010 at 6:26 PM ^
So, what made you become a girl?
September 26th, 2010 at 6:28 PM ^
I guess I evolved along with the cave. No that is the wife helping out.
September 26th, 2010 at 7:10 PM ^
I'm hoping to motivate myself into creating a special place like that in our house some day...

As somebody who has built his own Michigan Man Cave in two separate houses now, I'm pretty sure that's a Fathead. I've used it in both of my own projects.
September 27th, 2010 at 9:20 AM ^
That actually is a fat head.
September 26th, 2010 at 6:27 PM ^
That is just splendid. I want one.
September 26th, 2010 at 6:28 PM ^
and glad to see the Mrs embracing the idea. It woulda been enough to show her helping out, but she's smiling, so we all know that you are actually being allowed to enjoy the Man Cave. Strong work.
September 26th, 2010 at 6:36 PM ^
Not fair. Simply not fair.
September 26th, 2010 at 6:37 PM ^
1) That is simply amazing. I am in awe and truly jealous
2) You have seemingly found the perfect woman, one who will a) allow you to construct such a beautiful hideout, and b) gladly help with a smile on her face.
Bravo to you on both points, sir!

My uncle has a room like that only it is an OSU version (aghhh!). The reason I bring it up is he has an OSU carpet theme. Block O in the middle and gray on the outside. I wonder if there is a Michigan version that can be done? Blue carpet with a maize M in the middle. (ahhh, happy thoughts)
September 26th, 2010 at 7:31 PM ^
I always have thought about putting in an astroturf type carpet in the basement of our next home that we'll build. It will be my man cave and I thought it'd be cool to do a scaled down Big House field as the carpet. I also thought about muraling the walls to look like the Big House packed with fans but that may be taking it a bit too far.
This is still at least 5 years out as I wait for the big promotion and then stockpile some money but it will happen someday.
To the OP that's a killer paint job on the walls. Well done. I would be glad to hoist a beer there with you anytime. What area of the country are you stationed?
lol

The wall was a pain because it took a coat of primer and 2 coats of Blue but Home Depot has College colors so getting the color right wasn't too bad.

That rug really tied the room together, did it not?
September 26th, 2010 at 6:40 PM ^
That is pretty awesome.
September 26th, 2010 at 6:41 PM ^
I especially like that wall mounted/framed helmet it would look great in my man cave .
A few questions.
How much does it weigh?
Will it fit through your window?
When will you be away from home for about 30 minutes?
Seriously - I really like what you are doing. Can't wait to see the finished product. You have a keeper in the Mrs. Sometimes I think my wife might want to set my man cave on fire!
September 27th, 2010 at 9:28 AM ^
Man that was by far the toughest part of this whole project. I had to order a sheet of glass for the helmet because the measurments were larger than anyone carried standard. The glass is 5 feet by 5 feet and I bought the wall mounts at the glass shop.
Weight I am not sure about but I can tell you it is heavy probably 50 to 60 lbs. What you don't see is that the stairs go down right below where it is hung. It took 3 people and 2 ladders to get it hung. We had to put the bottom brackets in then lift the glass from ladders over the bottom clips without the top heavy glass flipping over on us. Had to havea 3rd person standing on the rail with a level with a sock on the end pushing on the top of the glass. Once we got the glass in the clips the other 2 people pushed on the top of the glass to keep it from falling forward while I sprinted to the top of the rail to lean forward and drill in the top clips really fast.
It was a major pain in the butt but it looks great. If I ever move and have to take it down I'm not sure what I will do.

Excellent man space. Love the paint work and the FATHEAD!!!

talk your wife into getting a bigger TV!
September 26th, 2010 at 7:25 PM ^
I'd suggest a projector, but it looks like there's a lot of natural light in there.
September 26th, 2010 at 7:16 PM ^
is the most amazingly-decorated room I have ever seen. Ever.
September 26th, 2010 at 7:22 PM ^
I am so jealous...thanks for sharing....now I know something else to pray for! LOL
September 26th, 2010 at 7:34 PM ^
I can't believe I didn't read at least one off-color comment about your wife.
Awesome room, man... If I had one like that I'd only come out of there on Saturdays to stop by the bathroom and raid the fridge. ALTHOUGH that's what little dorm room refrigerators are really made for, right?
September 26th, 2010 at 7:34 PM ^
Thanks for reminding me that there are some things I hate more than the Ohio State Buckeyes.
September 26th, 2010 at 7:35 PM ^
Awesome. You rock, Florida Blue.
September 26th, 2010 at 7:39 PM ^
that would be awesome
September 26th, 2010 at 7:57 PM ^
not so sure about 3-D TV. It hurts my eyes and I get a headache after watching TV in 3D. That is just from a sample from Best Buy.
September 27th, 2010 at 9:31 AM ^
I definately need to upgrade the tv although that one is 52." The problem is I have a 61" downstais already and convincing the wife that I need another hugeTV is going to be tough to do.
September 26th, 2010 at 7:41 PM ^
That is one awesome lamp.
September 26th, 2010 at 7:56 PM ^
The leg lamp is pretty cool, but you need to upgrade it to full size.

September 26th, 2010 at 7:54 PM ^
For all three of Michigan's Heisman winners.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:05 PM ^
Here's a question that I couldn't tell from the pictures: Did you use Nike maize or Adidas maize?
September 26th, 2010 at 8:13 PM ^
Looks like you have all of the requisite memorabilia, except... where's your Denard?
September 26th, 2010 at 8:29 PM ^
Does your wife have a sister that lives in AZ? I would love to find a good Michigan woman that not only allows you to have your very own Michigan Man Cave, but also assists in the construction of it. :)
September 26th, 2010 at 8:36 PM ^
That's pretty awesome. I wish I had that kind of space to create my own Michigan cave.

September 26th, 2010 at 8:48 PM ^
If you can put HARD EDGE above one of the exits I think you reach authentic/legend status on the matter.
September 27th, 2010 at 9:34 AM ^
I already have the wood and paint in the garage. I will soon be consructing a "Those who stay will be champions" sign, a "Go Blue Go Hold the Rope" sign and a "Hard Edge" sign. They will all be hung in due time. The problem is that now that football season is here I don't have time to do stuff because I have to watch Michigan win. Then by the time I'm done with that I am a little intoxicated and don't feel comfortable working with power tools.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:56 PM ^
100% pure Colombian awesome!
September 26th, 2010 at 10:59 PM ^
that phrase is getting really old
September 26th, 2010 at 9:55 PM ^
You have to sit down with the wife and be honest with her: that is the last time she is allowed in the michigan man-cave outside of a beer run or delivering a pizza. sorry, no girls allowed.
