OT: Dante Moore flips from Orgeon to UCLA
I look forward to when Michigan plays him in the not-so-distant future.

....unglued!

Horseshit is often unglued.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:48 PM ^
I think its pretty clear that Michigan was never going to win this recruitment. I'm making a lot of assumptions here but I think its clear that his priorities are more than just winning games. He wants to win, but he wants everything else that comes with winning just as much or more.
December 19th, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
No sounds like he wants it all regardless or before winning! Prime reason NFL should sponsor a minor league. Getting crazy. NIL deals. Players in programs for 6-7 years. How many NFL QB's are younger than Bo Nix? My son's team, FCS, has QB coming back for a 7th year, SEVEN!!! Guess he'll have a Ph.D or Social Security when he leaves???
December 19th, 2022 at 1:46 PM ^
FWIW, Moore denies that NIL played a role in his recruitment:
Moore mentioned that the UCLA heading to the Big Ten, where it starts play in the 2024 season, was a factor in his decision.
"The TV time and exposure is going to be great for me to market myself as being a quarterback and being an athlete at this point," he said.
Moore said that NIL did not play a big factor in his decision. He acknowledged that if he plays well at UCLA there will be NIL opportunities, but he said on his recruiting visits he'd decline to go to NIL meetings if they showed up on his itinerary. He said he didn't want a dollar amount thrown at him by a school impact a decision that should be based on football.
"I want to keep football the main thing and be a college student and enjoy life," he said. "Football is my main thing. That's what I love, and I can keep that the main thing."
Moore credited the bond he built with Kelly, quarterback coach Ryan Gunderson and wide receiver coach Jerry Neuheisel in his recruitment.

I mean, what is he going to say - 'yeah I took the highest bidder'.
December 19th, 2022 at 2:08 PM ^
He'll either surf or ski. Doesn't matter.
I'm glad Michigan isn't caught up in all of this.
December 19th, 2022 at 4:42 PM ^
You want UCLA, I deal with UCLA all the time…
December 19th, 2022 at 2:36 PM ^
I’m looking forward to when college players say “yeah, I went with the school that gave me the most money.” They shouldn’t be ashamed — most kids pick their schools by choosing the ones that cost the least (due to scholarships/aid/whatever), and so what if athletes just the one that has the most negative cost? Good for them.
December 19th, 2022 at 3:48 PM ^
Yeah but even pro athletes don't out & admit that - not even Scott Boras clients, where everyone knows what they're about the second they sign with him!
Highly doubt any HS player you'd ever be able to rely on will do that.
December 19th, 2022 at 4:33 PM ^
Saying you're going for the most money is unseemly even if it is your goal. Everyone needs and wants money, but it is a shallow goal. No one wants a spokesperson who says I did it for the money. See every FTX spokesperson....
A better goal, like Dante Moore is saying, is to play football at the highest level. To be great. The money follows that.
December 19th, 2022 at 2:48 PM ^
Yes, it makes much more sense to trust unsourced rumors that have mostly been wrong than the kids themselves. Especially when this decision comes after the school he committed to just lost their offensive coordinator and the starting QB announced he was coming back for another year.
But sure, it must have just been the money because that is what you want to believe based on prior assumptions.
December 19th, 2022 at 4:04 PM ^
No - more like "it must be the money" because he's committing to far away schools, including going considerably down the conference title possibility list with this new "commitment", when for years we all heard what big Michigan fans his family are!
Hearing a local kid has big Michigan fans in their family has nearly 100% of the time led to a commitment (if Michigan pursued them) until the NIL era.
And that's why people are being snarky!
December 19th, 2022 at 2:08 PM ^
On one hand the NIL is not the most important thing and on the other hand, he talks about marketing himself, me, me, me....I think maybe Harbaugh picked up on that persona and didn't pursue as hard as he could have, I wouldn't blame him.
Something about this kid seems off, whatever.
December 19th, 2022 at 3:07 PM ^
Have a feeling UCLA won't be his last school...
December 19th, 2022 at 3:27 PM ^
USC is just across town and has bigger national profile than UCLA; also, has more Heisman trophy winning QB's.
December 19th, 2022 at 4:08 PM ^
And will have a starting QB in place in '23, just as Michigan does. And as Oregon now does.
He appears to want a guarantee of starting as a frosh, which makes the nearly simultaneous transfer of the Kent St QB weird. Why is he transferring to not play?
December 19th, 2022 at 2:09 PM ^
So if football was the main reason, why the fuck would you go to UCLA? I can think of 20 other programs that would be better than UCLA.
December 19th, 2022 at 4:06 PM ^
Maybe in 5 years, after several disappointing seasons, he can finally reach the peak of a 3 loss season. Maybe, I mean he is no DTR and I doubt he has a Charbs in the backfield with him
December 19th, 2022 at 2:10 PM ^
Wonder if Bo Nix announcing yesterday he was coming back for another year put any weight on the decision as well
December 19th, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
Obviously it plays a role in his decision but he also clearly wants to play early and he wasn't going to do so with Nix returning. UCLA is bringing in a Kent St. transfer but Moore can probably beat him out and then he's got a nice road to playing time at an upper-half P5 team in a huge media market. This really isn't rocket science - he wants to play early and (hopefully) turn that into wins, fame, and money. And there aren't that many open spots on big-name teams going into next year.
UCLA doesn't have a big booster community for football - that's been a complaint I've heard for some time around that program. It's why Chip Kelly was able to waddle along at 3-4 wins a year for 3 seasons without much concern or consternation within the program. So while I assume NIL is a consideration Oregon absolutely can outbid them if they wanted to. This feels as much a "business" decision on the field as off it.
December 19th, 2022 at 4:08 PM ^
He doesn't want to play early, he wants to be named starter right now. Having a senior qb ahead of you for your true freshman year is the perfect situation for anyone who only cares about football. This guy wants no competition at as big of a program he can get it at. I'm not gonna hate, he will be the man at UCLA, and he gets to get L.A. NIL and socal weather.
December 19th, 2022 at 2:36 PM ^
lol. What a pant load.
December 19th, 2022 at 2:38 PM ^
"The TV time and exposure is going to be great for me to market myself as being a quarterback and being an athlete at this point,"
Michigan: The team, the team, the team.
Moore: The me, the me, the me.
December 19th, 2022 at 2:55 PM ^
He talked about marketing himself which, if I'm not mistaken, is basically making money off his Name, Image, and/or Likeness. Or at least the intention to do so in the future. He may not be interested in direct payments but he is interested in NIL. I actually think he's doing it the right way, just wants to play as early as possible to take advantage of it.
December 19th, 2022 at 4:33 PM ^
I believe him.
December 19th, 2022 at 5:36 PM ^
Looks like he wants the clearest path to a starting job as a freshman. He does a visit two weeks ago. Nix announces he is coming back to Oregon. Moore flips to UCLA.
December 19th, 2022 at 2:43 PM ^
Seems like his #1 thing is a clear path to starting as a freshman (not necessarily NIL) but your point stands that he was never going to Michigan with JJ on campus.
December 19th, 2022 at 2:51 PM ^
He doesn't play basketball, so I don't know how much winning he will have as a UCLA footballer. There is nothing special about UCLA football.
December 19th, 2022 at 3:00 PM ^
UCLA—Mark Harmon
UM—Tom Harmon
I kid, and with love; Summer School is still one of my favorite films.
December 19th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
Yeah, I mean UCLA just finished a season with a 5th year QB who was in the Heisman conversation for quite some time, and a stud RB who had back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons.
It was their most wins in eight years.
They went 9-3.

Posted a while back that Moore was a no-go for a while. Zero offense to him personally but I've read GOJ posts here for years and his take on the Moore recruitment back then was the first thing to ever make me think he may be making things up and/or simply reforming paysite info. His claim was that the staff felt "really good" about Moore and the feeling was being reciprocated.
The problem being that I know his coaches and talk to them quite a bit. They all told me straight-up that he wasn't going to Michigan. Not in a nasty way but that whatever was going on there early just wasn't there anymore. He supposedly hadn't spoke to the staff in weeks with the last run of communications being minimal. Moore was supposed to go to the school on his own a bunch and always canceled. Etc. All the while he was big on everyone from ND to TA&M. Oregon was there but not seen as the definite pick.
To reply to your comment, the reasons given were never made clear as that's not exactly the relationship we have. I just wouldn't ask why or the like and even if I did they aren't the types to say. The feeling I got from gathering everything said collectively is that playing early was very, very important to Dante and money is money so a lot of money is nice. This says nothing about Moore as a person because they genuinely like the kid. Coaches will gush about their kid just because he plays for them so unless the kid is true menace you have to find the concerns nestled between the love. With Dante it was always 100% positive. Zero backhanded compliments or negatives ever shared. The kid wants to play and make some money. Who can blame him?
Anyway, so to read GOJ say "the staff feels good about it" when his coaches are saying that he doesn't talk to UM with any regularity anymore threw some red flags up for me. The Moore recruitment was already over for Michigan back then at the time of posting that. Both sides already moved on, though I do think DG got him to visit the campus one more time after that point and it went nowhere.
So it was first early playing time, then money. I'd also guess that he seems to have wanted to leave the area.
December 19th, 2022 at 3:57 PM ^
The sense I always got is that he wants to get out of Michigan (which means neither we nor Sparty ever really stood a chance). And I get that. Those of us who grew up in Michigan, we all went to high school with kids who had zero interest in going to UofM or MSU and couldn't wait to graduate so they could leave Michigan.
Nothing wrong with that. Best of luck to the kid.
December 19th, 2022 at 3:53 PM ^
This is such a tired take, I don’t think not committing to Michigan translates to “I don’t care about winning.” Both the coaches he’s committed to run high powered passing offenses, something I don’t think Weiss/Moore/Harbaugh can (or should) promise to high level QB recruits. This is very clearly going to be a run first offense for the foreseeable future and DM probably looked at us and decided his skill set wouldn’t be maximized in that context. It’s possible to be upset that we lost out on a dude who’s probably going to be really good and simultaneously respect his decision instead of declaring him to be some self-interested and greedy rube who doesn’t love football
December 20th, 2022 at 8:17 AM ^
He doesn't like playing in front of large crowds....
December 19th, 2022 at 12:48 PM ^
But, but I thought Tuck was going to flip him
December 19th, 2022 at 12:51 PM ^
Soon 🤣
December 19th, 2022 at 12:53 PM ^
Well, Tuck is still comin. But if he ever gets here, I imagine that's the first thing he'll try to do.
December 19th, 2022 at 2:04 PM ^
Tuck is scheduled to arrive 5 minutes after we see Godot.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:53 PM ^
I posted a thread about MSU a bit ago, for which I am getting deservedly negbanged, but Dante was my motivation for taking a glance at RCMB. (Yeah, that's disturbing. I shall mention it to my therapist later this week) But I didn't see anything posted at the time. Probably due to oblivion? We would be melting down if we actually expected the young man to come here.
Tuck never had a chance. He's probably a nice guy to sit and have a beer with, but...no....
December 19th, 2022 at 1:14 PM ^
I'll always thumbs-up a fellow MMBone, slumming at RCMB or not.
December 19th, 2022 at 1:24 PM ^
I hope you have as high opinions of MMBTrumpets,

ehhh ;)

Did you see the man during the MSU game? He was frothing with anger. Completely unhinged. He seems to have zero chill and would make the worst kind of drinking buddy.
