Yeah, the idea UCLA outbid Oregon for him is sorta silly, especially since UCLA had one other guy in the top 300 before Moore signed up.  If UCLA was really throwing around buckets of money you'd figure they'd have done so before now.

It's playing time and a big media market.  My guess is UCLA will struggle next year losing a ton of production and Moore will have some games where he looks dynamite and others where he looks like a true freshman playing with average P5 talent.

Remember when we lost him and the sky was falling? It's obvious now we never had a real chance to begin with, his interest in Michigan was probably only due to the fact that his dad is a fan.

i look forward to us not talking about him. its pretty clear we feel scorned and are kinda sore about it. so if this makes him look bad, we feel better.

But whatever at this point..  enough about a guy who clearly had limited interest if any in UM. Go join UCLA and enjoy being 7-5 every year.

I'm pretty sure Harbaugh and company backed off recruiting Moore.  It doesn't seem like this kid was going to fit into the culture at Michigan.

There have been a lot of talks about Moore's ego and attitude. I want to first iterate that Dante Moore is an incredible talent. I saw him making D-1 throws in-game vs high competition as a sophomore. His “next great QB” title has gone back all the way to the 5th grade in PAL with the Detroit Spartans. He is a very smart QB, and a very impressive young man. He’s not cocky, plays with an edge but respects the game a lot.

I know a few people in his circle however, and I wouldn’t use the aforementioned adjectives to describe them. PAL and a lot of the “men” who run in that circle are toxic; much like AAU basketball. I really hope he can get his money for him and his family and ditch a lot of the baggage that has been attached to him for years. He has a lot of people in his ear right now, and I can’t say they all have HIS best interest in mind.

UCLA has a really weird class - Moore is the #11 prospect in the country and the next-highest rated guy is a WR at 291.  And UCLA hasn't finished with a top-20 class for at least the last 4 years and mostly relied on 4th and 5th-year players to move them offensively.  That's not going to be the case next year and while UCLA has been active in the portal this feels more like a either-or by Kelly and not a yes-and decision.  If Moore transfers in a year or two I wouldn't be shocked.

Anyway, Michigan will be fine either way.

Kelly switched to a transfer heavy recruiting strategy once the portal opened up.  The argument being that he could more easily judge if a player was ready to help.  I don't buy it, and think it was more along the lines of a transfer portal guy requires a couple months recruiting at most vs. a high school kid requiring longer time commitments.  This would be fine if A) the transfers in were above replacement level(Charbonnet excepted) and B) There were enough players in the program to provide depth.  I have a feeling UCLA is going to crash pretty hard next year and Moore is in for a pretty rough ride, which is why I can't make this decision make sense.  Oregon I understood, UCLA...not so much.

I’ve heard that eventually playing on Sundays is an important factor for highly regarded and talented high school prospects.

So, I took the Liberty of reviewing the NFL records  - as a coach - of two current college coaches.

Both were head coaches in the NFL for four years.   One coach had a 28-35 record.  The other had a 44-19-1 record.  The two coaches were Chip Kelly and Jim Harbaugh.   Can you guess which record belongs to which coach?

A.  Chip Kelly: 44-19-1, Jim Harbaugh: 28-35.  Or,

B.  Chip Kelly: 28-35, Jim Harbaugh: 44-19-1.

At this point its pretty clear that this is a recruitment that Michigan was never going to win. And that's okay. Harbaugh is clearly building a culture where he wants kids who are ready to bet on themselves, and he'll be there cheering them on when they reap their rewards on campus.

As for Moore, he's free to do what he wishes here. I don't blame a 17-18 year old kid, or really anyone for that matter, for wanting to maximize their earnings and secure their financial future for themselves and their families. This is what grown adults do every day in job searches. They look for the highest bidder and go work for them. Who's going to offer me the most money? You will? Okay, you've got my services until I feel like I can continue maximizing my earnings elsewhere.

You really going to hate on a kid for being dazzled by someone throwing millions of dollars at them? I don't know anyone on this board personally, but I don't have to in order to know that at least half of us would probably be doing what Moore is doing right now if we were in his shoes.

I see the argument for how this is going to kill whatever is left of the soul of college football, but if that's how you feel, don't hate the recruits for participating in a now legal system. Hate the people who designed the rules as they are. Hate the "adults in the room" who decided that NIL becoming the Wild West was the best option.

Still not excited about UCLA and USC joining the B1G, even ignoring the distance factor.  People from Calif like to set their own rules.  That's like a different culture out there and very parochial.  That's where I grew up before heading to M.  That's one of the reasons I wanted to leave.  This flip is probably about the $$$, not about the academic, athletic, or weather-related supposed virtues of UCLA.

The idea of him going to State was always ridiculous. It cropped up in the days immediately following the tunnel. I just viewed it as a way for State fans to medicate themselves over the tunnel suspensions, and the bad year they were having.
