Alex Boone raves about Harbaugh
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:37 PM ^
The same Alex Boone who trashed Harbaugh after getting fired from the 49ers saying he wore out his welcome and was clinically insane?
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:41 PM ^
Same guy. But he's evidently changed his tune, because this podcast is from two days ago and he couldn't be more positive.
Listen to what he says now. It's worthwhile.
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:52 PM ^
Good stuff! It was recorded before yesterday afternoon, so there some joy with the idea that he may be coaching the Vikings. Wonder what Alex thinks today (it may be the same)
February 3rd, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
Boone's teams were a combined 35-45 w/o Harbaugh and 44-19-1 with him. Hindsight provides a lot of clarity.
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
He made some statements after Harbaugh left SF but if you listen to the recent podcast, it is an hour of him gushing over how awesome Harbaugh is as a coach and as an overall great dude.
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:57 PM ^
He's just flip flopping and it's not even remotely minor.
Prior to Harbaugh leaving SF Boone backed him. He left and Boone said he pushed too hard and guys were sick of him always being "on." In this interview he says the exact opposite. He's awesome to be around, is always "on" but in a good way.
Just hard to take him seriously when he said what's black is white and now it's black again.
February 3rd, 2022 at 2:07 PM ^
Well, he's had seven years to rethink his position on Harbaugh. Maybe at the time he had hurt feelings over Harbaugh's departure.
I'd be more inclined to believe what he says now, when he's retired from the league and has the benefit of hindsight.
February 3rd, 2022 at 2:50 PM ^
Could have been given a nice bonus by the 49ers to trash talk him too.
February 3rd, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
This is exactly right. Boone later plays for Tomsula and whoever since and realizes how good he had it. Typical OSU bitch who finally grew up.
February 3rd, 2022 at 3:26 PM ^
At around the 36:00 mark he admitted he’d love Harbaugh and then at times hate him or be sick of him. But ended saying in the end realize Harbaugh was right. And that fits with Jim’s jackhammer personality.
EDIT: At 42:50 they ask him about the HBO interview where he called Harbaugh a phsycho. Boone says, Yes, I said that and he is and he's f**kin my best friend.
So, he owns what he said then and what he's saying now, and clearly lands on Harbaugh being a great coach.
February 3rd, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
Harbaugh is f**kin Alex Boone's best friend?!? Not cool, Jim!
Seriously, people get to make mistakes and move on if they own them, which seems to be the case here.
February 5th, 2022 at 12:04 PM ^
Ok, now this is the right place for the hundreds of “interviewing with the Vikings is exactly like your girlfriend cuckolding you” analogies I’ve seen on here over the last week.

This dynamic describes more than a couple Michigan fans around here.

I can't find anything right now but I'm pretty sure I remember Boone having a real issue with how that was all edited.
In any case, he has no reason to say what he said in this interview without believing it. It also falls more in line with what a lot of others have said.
February 3rd, 2022 at 8:28 PM ^
My one gripe is, your apology should be as loud as the thing you did wrong initially. The media took his bullshit and ran with it and it follows Harbaugh 7 years later, and I had no idea until now he felt otherwise. But tbh the media probably just doesn't care to push the "Harbaugh is a human and some people even like or love him" narrative over "Harbaugh crazy man"
February 3rd, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
This is actually a great behind-the-scenes player perspective on Harbaugh as a coach.
It's well worth the listen... and negates the "Harbaugh rubs players the wrong way and is a weird dude" narrative. Yes he's weird, but his madness has method.
February 3rd, 2022 at 9:30 PM ^
I completely agree with this take. Boone is authentically a huge Harbaugh guy.
February 3rd, 2022 at 10:57 PM ^
That's spectacular.
Makes sense why parents love the guy. The part where Boone says he could convince them to rob a bank together...hilarious.
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:32 PM ^
Wait... wasn't it OSU Alex Boone who threw Harbaugh under the bus when on the 49ers ????
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:38 PM ^
Was just posting that but couldn't find the video.
February 3rd, 2022 at 2:17 PM ^
I remember at the time he said those things, at what a POS, the OSU player throwing shade on Jim's way out.... was a bad look...and he should have clarified it.
February 3rd, 2022 at 2:29 PM ^
I bet you he was saying that for recruiting purposes which is smart given he went to OSU. Its not like he said anything really damning of his character, just that he works people too hard and why would you want to be a player under someone who is just going to grind you down - including in college
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:41 PM ^
Could it be David , Herman , or Jack ????
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:42 PM ^
Is this one of those Mandela effect things?
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:45 PM ^
Correction. AB raves about JH.
February 3rd, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
I had no idea Alberta really loves Harbaugh.
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:49 PM ^
Thanks for posting this as its own thread. It got buried in the other threads and it is a terrific interview with Alex Boone.
It is clear that Harbaugh loves football and loves his players and that they LOVE him.
Mike Mac said something similar in a Ravens interview the other day. Harbaugh loves his players and he always has their backs.
February 3rd, 2022 at 1:55 PM ^
Why do I feel like this past season and the first two seasons we got the SF version of Harbaugh and the others he was just not himself (I still think 2016 pissed him off royally)
February 3rd, 2022 at 2:03 PM ^
This kind of feels like that time when Kevin Love was actively throwing Beilein under the bus when he was in Cleveland, and then cozying up to the media and telling everyone how great and nice he was after Beilein was shown the door.
February 4th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
Nah, Kevin Love was way worse. Boone just said some things when Harbaugh left. Love actively undermined Beilein while Beilein was still coaching. Beilein had a bunch of players that were younger and less experienced than the ones he had just been coaching at Michigan, and he felt he needed to do a lot of teaching and video work with that group (it’s one of the stated reasons he was hired). Love felt above that and bitched about it, and when your all-star Olympian team elder and star doesn’t buy in to what the coach is selling, it’s not surprising that the team didn’t follow suit. He was such a team cancer that the Cavs tried to trade him even though at the time he was the only thing propping up ticket sales, but no one wanted him at his stupidly large salary. He’s doing better now because he’s decided to put his full effort forward for the current coach, and those young players and others have developed into a solid core that can win games, but I still can’t root for him because he was such a selfish prick.
February 3rd, 2022 at 2:03 PM ^
This is interesting. It does seem like lots of those 49er's players that played for Harbaugh loved him (maybe because they won so much).
My one and only insider tidbit is that the Vikings players did not want him. Not sure if this had any bearing at all on yesterday's events, but the word was "he's a poor communicator and quirky," and I'm sure they didn't want someone who demands as much control as Harbaugh does.
Fine by me. He's our weirdo; go get your own!
February 3rd, 2022 at 3:26 PM ^
He's not a wierdo. He sees the bigger picture and says it how it is. Refreshing, actually, in this age of snowflake society. What scares me is when his/our generation is gone.

Viking fans' comments under the video:
After Hearing Boone talk about Harbaugh, it’s going to be a huge letdown if he’s not the Vikings next HC!
Harbaugh is exactly what the Vikings need. He is a pure motivator who gets the best out of players He may be a little corky, according to some but all he does is win. If I was the owner I would ask him why he would leave Michigan for the Vikings. His answer most likely would be because I want to win a Super Bowl and I can do it in Minnesota. Thanks Boonee for the excellent description of Jim Harbaugh. ? ????
Hearing Boone talk about Harbaugh has me ready to run through a brick wall
Boone has got me so pumped for Harbaugh... I'm hoping this pans out.
I honestly had NO desire for Harbaugh, but after hearing Boonie talk about him (and specifically his relationship with that front office) I'm completely flipped 180! I think KAM and the Wilfs are the PERFECT group of guys for him to work with!!
Amazing segment. I'm so stoked for harbaugh in MN. Boone makes him sound like a perfect fit. Thanks for sharing alex. Sköl.
Harbaugh would have this team as contender next year. Boone has me unbelievable pumped for getting Harbaugh.
Fantastic episode. Boone has made me want to do cart wheels for Harbaugh!
February 3rd, 2022 at 2:31 PM ^
So he just likes to say things loudly for attention... regardless of the content. Cool. I'll listen because the last month has been total shit for us, but... this guy flails in the wind.
February 3rd, 2022 at 2:33 PM ^
Wait are we now meant to be back in the "Harbaugh is the world's greatest guy" mode?
February 3rd, 2022 at 2:45 PM ^
while some of us never left that camp, you are free to remain there if you wish.
February 3rd, 2022 at 2:41 PM ^
So Boone is basically like Michigan fans that both like and hate Harbaugh at different times.
February 3rd, 2022 at 7:05 PM ^
Everybody wants him. He’s hotter than Hansel right now.
February 3rd, 2022 at 7:24 PM ^
I don't believe it
February 3rd, 2022 at 7:39 PM ^
This was beyond raving. Boone sounded like he knew Harbs was coming and had every reason waiting to convince the fan base this was the perfect hire. Makes me want to watch today’s episode to see the shock and backtracking
February 3rd, 2022 at 8:17 PM ^
i actually took the time to listen to about 20 minutes of this while doing some chores, and if boone is to be believed, we have the greatest football coach on the planet, and i'm being serious. should be required listening for the 'fire harbaugh' crowd, the 'he gone!' crowd, the 'he talked to someone else so fire him now!' crowd, etc.
February 3rd, 2022 at 9:06 PM ^
That was my reaction, too. Wish every M fan would listen to at least a few minutes.
Real football guys love Harbaugh. We're lucky to have him.
February 3rd, 2022 at 10:39 PM ^
Seriously enjoyable listen… it is hard to imagine he was faking that enthusiasm toward all things Jim, if anything this colorful commentary affirms what we know to be true of how Jim works…
