Positive Covid Test Shuts Down MSU Football Program
I suppose “program” is a bit much consider they are more like an intramural teams as of late.
I thought they shutdown their football program a couple of years ago?
UM Fan from Sydney, I’ve got a question for you:
You’re insufferable.
Really, one?
One that they know of. They're pausing until they have the complete test results back. Could be more, and they don't want to throw everybody into a big pile together until they find out.
I heard it was somewhere in the window of 3-9
Since the B1G is only playing conference games I’ll assume it was between 1-8 cases
I hear they’re allowing as many as 12 men on the field at once, but they have to stand 94 yards apart.
Sparty math says that's possible.
Sparty math also requires you to take your shoes off if you need to count to 20.
Oh man, the whole team done got redlocked.
COVIDLOCKED!
Im super bummed we dont get to watch MSU led by Rocky Lombardi. Wouldve been a glorious shitshow
I think I taught typewriter maintenance at his school for women
Outstanding pop culture reference
Thank you for playing, "Should we, or should we not, follow the advice of the galactically stupid".
Honestly, I would have guessed some other disease would have shut down that program long ago.
Covid doing what the NCAA shouldve done a long time ago.
From the pictures I saw of kids lined up at bars in East Lansing I’m guessing all the kids will have it
"Where's the threat???", well I guess they found it!
According to the article once a player tests positive they need consecutive negative tests to return. In my experience that can take a very long time. I never actually had two consecutive negatives, the health dept. of Aruba just cleared me (one aspect of my story I posted back in March that I left out, and which explains how I was able to get tested so frequently). I continued to test positive for around three weeks AFTER symptoms. You get results back in around 6-8 hours there.
Another reason the numbers are bogus. One man - with how many positive cases?? Daily tests for 3 weeks. 15-20 positive cases for this one individual. Hmmmmm....
That's just not true. The numbers reported are positive CASES, not positive test results. One individual that tests positive is one positive CASE, even if they go get tested 3 times.
Testing was done initially 7 days after my first test, then 5 days after that, then another five days or so, but in back-to-back days because the two negatives must be within a 24 hour or so time period.
Aruba had a very aggressive response, which included closing their borders, testing as mentioned, contract tracing, a curfew, a lockdown, and enforced quarantine (my fiance and I were separated, and were provided housing and meals at Aruba's expense). Aruba's numbers reached 117 people and three deaths. At least in Aruba there were no duplications for positive cases as they also report number of recovered people.
I thought Harbaugh already shut down MSU's football program.
Meanwhile, all of the MAC schools are currently hiding all of their test results, because, according to them, this protects people.
That's one way to get out of playing against Michigan. They'll be using this excuse even after all the players are vaccinated in the future.
Dang. They get a new coach right before signing day. Lose their spring practices. Then wind up with a re-arranged summer camps. While Harbaugh, Franklin, Day and others have had years with their players, MSU players have no idea what their new coach wants to do. Spring would have been where that happened. Summer would have been fine tuning as best they can. Now they'll go into the fall with little to no team chemistry with the coach. Going to be a rough year for them if there's a season
The circle is complete
I think you meant "circus".
What are we even doing? This is just dumb.
Crazy that the program survives through a rape epidemic, but a disease that has LITERALLY ZERO CHANCE OF KILLING HEALTHY PEOPLE OF THIS AGE and it shuts it down.
These are the things you pay attention to when your wondering if there are signs we might be over reacting.
It isn’t “literally zero” and it isn’t just about the players. Good lord, are you stupid.
It's nearly a moot point. The 1000s of kids hanging out in bars with no social distancing are a greater threat to the most vulnerable than the football team is.
These are the comments you pay attention to when wondering why the U.S. will never be able to get past this disease and resume normal operations. Unfortunately, a vaccine won't help us either, because these same people are likely anti-vaxers as well. We're fkd.
Stupid is as stupid does.
How can you be so obtuse?
Username checks out.
This is going to happen to most teams.
Ironic considering that Michigan State is a disease
Serious question....
How much is it costing these schools to run nearly non-stop Covid tests on their athletes and coaching staffs ? Where is this money coming from ? I'm pretty sure the Old Dominion Athletic Conference suspended all fall sports in part because of the high costs involved with daily testing.
Pretty sure that football programs that pay their coaches millions of dollars per year can afford weekly testing for the players, whom they do not pay.
To be fair, the MSU Football Program has effectively been shut down for about 3 or 4 years now.....
This latest setback could effect them for the next 3-9 years......
