|1 day 10 hours ago||My long thoughts on UM Hoops||
Michigan hoops makes me sad. I don't our play has been terrible, but it has been pretty disjointed. Youth and injuries haven't helped, but the team needs to play cleaner basketball than that. Last night made it very apparent that Trey Burke floated this team. Or atleast moreso than I would have liked to admit heading into the season.
The most concerning thing might be that Glenn Robinson still lacks the ability to create his own shot. He may be the best NBA prospect, but Caris LeVert was the only guy who could make things happen last night, and throughout the season it has only been he and Stauskus.
It appears that Derrick Walton has potential, but he lacks the big play making ability that good teams need to have at PG. His shots are off balance, he rarely makes it into the paint or even draws other defenders over meaning he has virtually no assists and can't get the offense started.
Spike Albrecht is more aggressive but his size is also a huge liability. Skill wise, he's not there, but I'm not convinced that he won't be our starting point guard at some point this season. I don't think that is a good thing. But he's more likely to make passes that set up scoring opportunities.
I like Irvin's ability to shoot. In fact, he does about as much as GR3. So in terms of next year, it looks like we will be fine there. I'm sort of kidding, but not really. Is Glenn Robinson going to ever take over a game or is he just going to wander around looking for dunks like its rec ball?
Stauskus and McGary were a mess last night. I give them both a pass for now due to injuries and the fact that they both played out of their mind in recent games/the tournament. I think those two and LeVert are the keys to this team having any success.
Meanwhile, Jordan Morgan has to be about the most angering player I've ever watched. I realize his is not talented, but we're not asking him to be Mitch McGary. Softer hands and the ability to finish around the rim is something that should be developed after his 11th year in the program. The dude is seriously a mess and it is no surprise Horford is ahead of him on the depth chart. Horford has shown some nice flashes but he is not that good yet.
I think Michigan will need to get more development out of Horford and the PG position to do anything, but maybe it comes around in a month or two when they practice more

If you paywall, traffic goes down and the other ads don't pay as well.

I didn't realize that until a friend pointed it out. Looks like that acting career is really taking off.
|3 days 17 hours ago||Presser Question||
I would love this MGOQuestion at an upcoming presser.
Will Devin Funchess' be a receiving tight end or a blocking tight end next year?
I guess there might be better ways to voice it to avoid coachspeak for an answer, but you get the point.
|5 days 15 hours ago||No||
No fucking way to I want MSU to win. I understand OSU is awful. I really do. I just don't want to live in a world of mouthy Spartan fans talking about how they've arrived.
|5 days 15 hours ago||Tickets||
Tickets were so cheap. I wish I would have bought some.

I would have done the same thing. And I think that just showed why we should support Brady Hoke as our head coach. Will do whatever it takes to win. Hope this doesn't mean another year with Borges.

Wonder if coach has noticed a change in communication from Mr. Peppers.

Those Hoyas have really come to play in 2013 tournaments. SMH.

Are the most bullshit questions I have ever seen. Do any journalists aside from MGOBloggers actually ask real questions?

Isn't it fun to be at this point? We should get some subs.

Dominant RB. Had speed, strength and athleticism. Would score 5 straight Tds either by way of rushing or kick returns and then be pulled by the mercy rule. When he wasn't playing LB, they would let up a TD and he would get back in the game. This went on and on.
When HS hit, he was called up to varsity as a freshman. Dominated early before getting injured - a shoulder or something. Then the same thing next year. Was never the same and never played college or even developed into a stud HS player.

I keep thinking about the opportunities at hand in the next few years with Gardner, Morris, Campbell, Harris, Peppers and hopefully Hand. We have a shot at a once in a lifetime combination of skill players on offense and absolute monsters on defense. I'm worried it is going to be wasted because players won't be developed properly or gameplans won't be fundamentally sound.
This is Michigan fergodsakes. There is no reason that even with a depleted offensive line, we shouldn't be able to outplay teams in other areas and win games. Especially against inferior programs like MSU. Borges has been bad, but you're not going to tell me that MSU hasn't had problems on offense too. And Narduzzi is great, but we have Mattison. So I'm wondering - when does the payoff come?

I don't get the reference...

You would be charged with theft and jailed probably. Then the Freep would run 11 stories about it and you'd never be able to get a job anywhere.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I agree||
I saw a lot of arrogance in college, but less now that I am in the working world. U-M fans at work seem to like it that I root for U-M fans. I'm apprehensive with which State fans know about my true fanhood because I don't want it to impact work (you never know who is prejudiced).
The thing that always frustrated me about the MSU and U-M comparisons is that everyone knows U-M is a better school, yet I don't think many Michigan fans will admit than MSU does a lot of things right. In the past 10 years or so the school has really raised its profile in the areas of engineering, physics, and healthcare. They are still very much in the shadow of U-M in many areas, but it certainly isn't a safety school or as bad as it is made out to be.
I feel this is amplified because U-M has more national and even internationl appeal while MSU has roots in mainly the midwest.
The best comparison I can give is this: if you listen to college-aged U-M fans, you would think MSU is Arizona State. And that's definitely not the case.
Moreover, I think Michigan State's emergence as a leader in physics and other areas benefits the Big 10 and also pushes U-M to be better in certain areas (obviously they want to retain the standing as the best engineering school around).
I see it as a benefit to both schools and the conference if MSU succeeds.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Thanks!||
Thanks! And I was part of that Facebook group long ago. Not sure if it is still around. I found that if you wore a U-M hat, or shorts it wasn't as frowned upon as a shirt was. If you wore a shirt and a hat together, you could get into some trouble by the angry, uber-passionate fans.
One time in the cafeteria, a student told me that wearing my U-M shorts was like "killing babies."
Other times I would also get the "Go Blue" or a story from another passionate fan in hiding. Some were more out in the open about it. Some wouldn't dare wear a shirt on campus. Some didn't care at all.
Another time, a classmate spotted a picture of me in the newspaper. I was wearing a blue hat and yellow shirt in the Maize Rage, between two friends in Spartan gear. The friend was pretty pissed because he had no idea of my fandom.

To be more open minded. While I never rooted for MSU, I would sing the fight song (unless they were playing Michigan). I also enjoyed some very cool events. I got to watch U-M hoops come to town and got tickets when U-M football played in East Lansing. I also got to see MSU beat Wisconsin 49-14 in 2004 or so. It was an amazing game and I appreciated it because I love college football. It was also fun to get opportunities to go to the MSU/ND games because at the end of the day, I team I disliked lost!
Lastly, being a student afforded me the opportunity to attend a Final Four on the cheap. It was a great experience. Nothing like watching U-M last year, but going to the events was a pretty cool time, even if I wasn't vested in the outcome.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||CMU||
Adding a layer of complexity to my story, MSU lost my transcripts and by the time my guidance conselour realized the error, I was relegated to the waiting list. Paid for the first semester of Central before getting accepted into MSU. Had to go to CMU for a semester too. CMU had a ton of Michigan fans.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Also...||
Three to four of the sports stringers and interns I worked with at the Lansing newspaper were also Michigan fans. One of them is a local beat reporter now. I'm sure you can guess who it is.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Good question||
It would have been a very interesting decision. My older brother went to MSU and I enjoyed visiting. I felt like I belonged more at MSU than anywhere else. MSU was my first experience really being on a campus, staying in a dorm, going to parties and not having parental supervision. Additionally, I think I benefitted from MSU's communications department as a whole. I'm in advertising, so I only use the journalism degree now for freelancing or writing diaries at MgoBlog!
But, I wonder if Michigan athletics would have made the decision for me. Maybe there is someone else on the board that made a similar decision.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||DJFL?||
Is this the DJFL? Pretty cool. The team I played for played in a dumpy park on the outskirts of Detroit. But at least we had cool helmets.
|7 weeks 1 day ago||Denard's Tackle||
Came on a punt return where I believe Denver fumbled and recoverd their own fumble. Or maybe it was a partially blocked punt - although that wasn't in the box score. I hate myself, so I watched the Jaguars play live and I remember it being a strange play becuase he came from off the screen to make the tackle.
|8 weeks 6 days ago||Shavodrick Beaver||
We should move him to WR. Or move him and Devin to WR and start Shane. Or Move all three of them to WR and start Graham Glasgow's cat sweater at QB.
One more scenario:
QB - Morris
RB - Gardner
WR - Beaver wearing a cat sweater.

|10 weeks 16 hours ago||Scheduling||
Furman and Directional Michigan aren't great, but I'm not going to fault MSU for atleast trying to schedule teams like Alabama. They also have a home and home with Oregon the next two years followed by what would have been 'Bama and then a series with West Virginia. They also had some talks with Miami (YTM) a few years back but I don't know if anything materialized. At least they are trying.
