How often are you watching UM "football porn" ?

Submitted by Bo Harbaugh on February 6th, 2024 at 2:41 PM

I have an addiction, and I'm coming clean.  I can't stop watching UM football videos, commentary and recaps from the past 3 years.  Every evening I spend at least 30 minutes rewatching old games and recapturing and reliving the glory of what UM football accomplished.  After the prior past 20 years of straight pain or "almost" heartbreaks, I'm in the "can die happy now" camp, but I indeed have an addiction and the first step is to acknowledge it - so they say.

Some games I can't stop watching...

OSU @ UM 2021 - Cathartic, magical scene

UM B1G Championship 2021- Smashing Iowa for our first Trophy in a long time

UM @ OSU 2022 - Owned OSU in the toilet bowl after all their chirping, Day is soft confirmed

OSU @ UM 2023 - No more excuses OSU, Temp coach, no Stalions, keep crying

UM @ PSU 2023 - Sherrone runs it down their throat, Temp coach on short notice smashes frames

The Rose Bowl 2023 - Obvious one.  Played poorly and made many mistakes and still slayed the SEC - Bama giant.  The scenery was epic and finish was glorious.

2023 National Championship Game - A bit anti-climactic after beating Bama, but was the clincher and put a cherry on top of the Harbaugh era.  Perfection, 15-0, National champs! All the glory.

Anyone else obsessively watching games and highlights?  Shall I seek help?

You jerk off to UM porn?

Do I jerk off to UM porn? Yeah, yeah, I jerk off to UM porn, yeah.

How many times a week?

Like three...four? Three or four times maybe.

You gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers in this racket.

Thanks- you just reminded me I haven't since Sunday and I'm overdue.

My personal faves:

"We did it" video compilation for 2021 OSU (set to Mr. Brightside)

2022 OSU with Gus and Klatt, "got a WIDE OPEN RECEIVER"

2023 OSU, Rod Moore INT set to "My Heart Will Go On"

2023 NCG, Mike's INT, from each different broadcast and camera angle

I can hear it in my head.

He was expecting Sainristil to score there, I think and was going to say something like "Michigan just put a dagger in this game" or "Michigan has done it" or "Michigan now has an insurmountable lead"...but it ended up being:

"MICHIGAN! .....inside the 10" lol

I am probably in the minority here, but I tend to watch the game live (or a replay if I cannot) and then I don't tend to rewatch it again. I have never revisited those magical 1997 nor those dramatic letdown 2006, 2016 seasons. I do like to waste all my time on this blog, walking on pins and needles all fall and into winter, and then I let it all go and look for the next season.

I enjoy the change of seasons and I don't look as much into the past. Sorry, Seth...

I'm always living in fear of that first loss. I enjoy the highs. This was an amazing season, obviously. I was born watching some great teams and believed we were the best team of all time, so I expect to be able to win every year. Those expectations make watching Michigan football different than say, Indiana (no offense to Hoosier fans, who live the same fandom in Basketball).

Maybe 3-4 times a month; generally when I've cough had a few cough. Usually the highlights from a particular game, but sometimes the full game.

Not just the last three years, either. The 2019 Notre Dame game is a favorite of mine in recent years, but others as well.

OSU games (all three), a lot. Also, relisten to mgopodcasts. A few times. All glorious.

Bama game, a bunch. I even walked my sister through the last drive and OT, play by play, explaining what is going to happen on each play in gory detail, which was easy, because I've watched it many times.

It's like Dave (I think) said on one of the podcasts: with previous years, when we lost to OSU, it stole some memories from us. You couldn't really go back and watch those seasons, and esp. those games, because of the end result. We now have so much we can look back on, watch again, and smile.

I love the ones where people watch and react to the highlights, especially when they hoped or expected Michigan would lose. There're some for the Rose Bowl, but the most for the OSU games

McAfee and AJ Hawk (of OSU) have been very complimentary of UM post championship.

Hawk going so far as to acknowledge what UM is doing right in culture and development.

Also, their on field announcing of the playoff games was pretty solid.

After Blake's OT TD against Bama, Mcafee....

I used to not be able to get enough. My sort of crazy-fandom years stretched from about the Desmond times through the RichRod years so I'd get up to watch Michigan Replay and tape it and rewatch games, then couldn't get enough of the Denard or Tate highlights. I could listen to Frank Beckman's call of Woodson returning his punt against Ohio State on a loop and get goosebumps every time.

But, at some point I just got away from rewatching things I already knew the end to, it just didn't do it for me anymore. I think it's why I also prefer competitive games to body-bag opponents. I need that uncertainty to get that thrill now.

I engage in post victory schadenfreude farming for a couple days after any given win and then I've either seen all the good stuff or it's just repetitive. It's tainted by all the conspiracy theories lately though, like it's impossible to get any enjoyment out of MSU because it's just 'the tunnel did it' or 'cheaters' repeated ad nauseum. It's harder to find good schadenfreude these days.

basically every free time i get. Watching it or talking about it.

What's funny about the Natty is it didn't feel anti-climactic until the last 1/8th of the game - until the Blake TD. Watching the game I was on pins and needles thinking we may be complaining about the offensive play calling afterwards. And then we put it away. And then in the misty eyed aftermath, the debate in my circle shifted from "what was bigger, the Rose or the 'Ship?" to "the Rose or The Game?"

Seth convinced me in his UFR The Rose is our biggest win ever. I think this edition of The Game is the biggest ever - a top-5 edition with two undefeateds where the winner won the 'Ship? Never happened in the game's long history. As far as M's wins, Seth convinced me about the '21, '69 Games, '48 Rose and the '98 Chicago game. But The Rose and the '23 Game both belong there too.

Crazy to think '97, '02, '06, and '16 editions don't measure up. And '22 is probably a step ahead of those, but in our hearts behind the other 2 most recent games - despite probably having the most iconic play calls and plays. "WIDE OPEN!" or post game quote, "which one?"

I rewatched that 2021 Ohio game probably a dozen times in December 2021. I try to limit myself on rewatches in the offseason as part of an overall cleanse. That is more difficult this year as the season went late and there was a coaching change. It is hard not to feel nostalgic that this era is over. Nostalgia is a big part of being a Michigan football fan.

I put on the highlights of the Rose bowl and NC game every time my wife wants to go at it. It's better than viagra, i tell ya!

I do get a kick when she yells "GO BLUE!" every time she orgasms.

I have been watching my fair share but am sure to clear my browser's history after viewing. Don't need any more questions from the Mrs about what I'm doing. Sheesh.

Related, since the biggest moments in the regular season (and B1G championship games) have largely been on Fox, it strikes me odd when I hear someone other than Gus Johnson calling a huge play for Michigan. I wasn't too fond of Fowler and Herbstreit in the CoFoPoff games this season and REALLY missed Gus and Joel Klatt!

A lot from this year mostly as the level of play was just damn near NFL level good. Well coached and player lead, disciplined execution.

Each broadcast it seemed noted how few penalties. The Mike Hart level dependability of Blake was to marvel at and he cemented his legendary Wolverine status goal and the coming back to finish business goal and how many can say that at his age?

The games bring me joy and goosebumps and in some still a nervousness for the clutch situations delivered on.

When I listening to the 4 hour podcast of top moments, I got thinking of the most important game of the Harbaugh era. Your list is exactly what I came up with with only one more addition: Penn State 2021.

Penn State 2021 - Set to be another Michigan collapse on the road against a quality opponent with major stakes on the line. McNamara to All saves the day. Do any of the great moments listed happen without it?

I actually very rarely watch more than clips on occasion. I don't have the time to do more than that, and I always have this feeling like excessive viewing of such videos is me trying to recapture a feeling that cannot be replicated when you're not in the moment, and ultimately, that seems futile to me.

I almost never rewatch games. Maybe if I am trying to look for one specific play or moment to review a thought I had, but that's about it.

I stopped doing that when I felt like the admin/regents ineptly bungled or purposefully sabotaged Michigan becoming a dynasty program.
