MGoBlog freezes?

Submitted by Blue Vet on March 6th, 2024 at 11:58 AM

Recently, when time I click on MGoBlog, it freezes, either immediately or within a few seconds. [I’m using cut-&-paste to squeeze this comment in.] Is it my computer / system or are others having the same trouble?

If you can do an Ad-Blocker it helps.  My company does not allow such.  About once a day I have to do a full shutdown and power back on.

At home no issues with the Ad-Blocker

Echoing the other comments.....

On the laptop (running Chrome) there were a couple ads on here that would freeze me up. But with ad-blocker on, no issues.

I have had issues with mgoblog taking forever to load with Brave browser on phone in past (shields down or up did not seem to matter), but I could get to open with Safari and desktop has never been issue.

Try clearing your cookies or check other settings that might cause issue.

55 and cloudy here. As in I have to keep shuffling between devices and browsers to find the one that works for a few days. Clear cache, kill apps, restart device, pray, etc.

I've been having the same problem, freezing, for the past two days.  I run Chrome with ad blocker and there are times I have to close out the entire tab (working on desktop) and reload it to get the site to open back up.

Something has changed over the past 48 hours.  Maybe just the lunatics like me who spend WAY too much time here are feeling it but something is making it freeze up

For some reason none of the images on the Natty Ring thread were loading for me, including the one I uploaded myself. All I got was a spinning beach ball, and then broken image links.

As long as I'm complaining, MGoBlog started refusing to load on my phone in safari, and although I can view the site on Chrome, it's still glitchy as hell and I have to log in constantly.

I'm on the internet as much as anybody is, and there isn't a single site I visit anywhere, whether on my work laptop or on my phone, that routinely performs as poorly as MGoBlog does.

HUEL is the sound my dog used to make when he was throwing up.

Don---Same thread that seemed to be the main culprit for me.

Seeing you're having similar issues with that particular thread, I may just delete it entirely.

[I left the thread on the board for now.  The only glitch I noticed is that if I go to that page using Firefox, I have to sign back in.]

I don’t ad block and haven’t cleared cache in a while. And yet I am on a great run of having basically no issues, which was not the case for most of the football season. But sounds like I should be expecting more pain soon.

With Ad-Blocker off, I got 1,540 third-party requests on the initial page load, and it adds about 400-500 more every 5-10 seconds. In the time it took to type that sentence, it was at 3595 requests. Seth that is an issue—no site should load over 100 MB of ads!

Also, when I check the developer console, I see CORS violations, which is a huge issue. I'll continue donating, but I will never use this site without an ad blocker.

To finish, I let the site run for about 7 minutes. In that time, there have been 9,686 third-party requests, 273 MB transferred, 679 javascript errors, and almost 30,000 warnings.

I cleared the cache numerous times yesterday and it seemed to help briefly each time before freezing up again.  I also cleared the cache on my default Chrome browser and on the Google app.  Prior to this, I deleted one of my posts because I hadn't had any problems until I had made that comment and inserted a Saab gif---I thought the gif might be the culprit because that particular thread (the National Championship Rings thread) froze up every time I went to it.   That particular thread is still giving me problems today though.

I also deleted, reinstalled, and again deleted the MGoBlog app; this seemed to help more than anything else I had tried.

About the only other thing I thought about yet trying is to reinstall Firefox or installing some other browser until Chrome is working better.

Recommend deleting bookmark or desktop app from smartphone whenever it bogs down, besides cache clearing.  Then search for site and re-bookmark or put on the desktop again.  Magic!

OMG!!

I added the ad blocker finally after reading some of these comments and why didn't I do this sooner. This site is running like a dream now. Now I wonder how many other sites it messed up because it said on Chrome it can mess with others. But this is nice. Thank you.
