OT - Lions vs. Ravens Monday Night Football Open Thread

Submitted by TheFrigz on

I've got two finals tomorrow, so what better way to procrastinate than to watch my Lions choke away the division lead!

Well friends, this pretty much sums up why I became such a hardcore Michigan football fan. Became such a big deal for me I even went to school there. (As WC Fields would say... Yes, yes, yessssssss)

but this captures one essential difference between a winning franchise and a loser:

After the Lions scored the go-ahead TD, their kicker (Akers?) can't come close to booting the ball through the end zone, thus enabling the Ravens to get the ball back to the 33 on the return. Those extra yards were critical, as it turned out.

After the Ravens kicked the go-ahead FG, what does their kicker do on the ensuing kickoff to the Lions? Boots it way out of the fucking end zone, ensuring the Lions have start from their 20.

It's just one thing, but add enough of 'em up and you win. Or lose, in the Lion's case.

Havard Rugland must be laughing if he watched.

The Lions need to look for another option at QB. True there were a lot of dropped balls tonight but a stafford is just not a franchise QB. He just has never been reliable enough. It's sad, really.

The Lions had the division title gift-wrapped for them this year, with Rogers being out, the Vikings sucking, etc...but they STILL managed to find a way to choke away the division lead.  They went from FIRST place, to now THIRD place, in a matter of 2 days.

I have been trying to be patient with Schwartz, but it's time for him to go.  The team is undisciplined, and continues to make too many mental mistakes.  The Lions need a new head coach.

Laughing hilariously at everybody who thought this year might actually be different. That includes me, by the way.

Since that ref turned an all-time championship play into sealing the game for Louisville, 2013 has been terrible for Detroit sports. Following that the Pistons inexplicably didn't take Burke, Wings blew a 3-2 playoff lead, Verlander was average during regular season, Miggy got hurt, then we blew two playoff games, UM football has proven mediocre, UM missed on Hand, OSU-MSU played for championship, UM basketball has been gut-punched, and the best Lions team in maybe my lifetime has blown a division lead to TWO teams starting backup quarterbacks. I can't take much more.

Fan for many years here.

Wife asked me: "what do you think will happen in the game tonight?"

i said: "Lions will have many chances but will find a painful way to lose at the end."

She didn't believe me.

And then...

I live twenty minutes from the stadium and it felt like 2 hours...

the walk to the car was just random people muttering curses under their breath.

I don't want to see another lions game as long as I live but I know I will turn in on Sunday afternoon...

between the lions and wolverines the last two years of football have been horrendous.
