actually I am an ewok and I was tired of hiding behind mathematical symbols... OR, that was just the funniest picture I have ever seen and the inspiration of my 'Rape Ewok' fantasy football teams.

I was part of the Thronson house broomball champions. I even scored an overtime goal in the shootout in the southern goal of yost. That is more important than winning a rose bowl if you ask me. SQ what! jdon

Best post ever on this site... by far. Ginsberg is the man. America is my favorite poem (well, tied with Mother to Son) Random Refelection on my time in Ann Arbor: I remember taking the Beat Generation class and spending the weekends getting high as fuck and then reading the material again to find the true meaning. lol. ps. by weekends I mean any day that ended in 'Y'

I've seen pearl jam and the Smashing Pumpkins play there. I've see a couple Michigan hockey regional games too. Solid arena and the neighbor hood is a blast. jdon

you just have to accept it for what it is... For me, the chapter you are describing is my favorite in the entire series. Knowing I won't see it on screen doesn't kill it for me though... like I said, I have made my peace with the different formats...

| 1 week 1 day ago | you are in a tough spot... |
there are a couple people who constantly take pot shots at you. 1.) if you respond then you become part of the problem. 2.) It is very hard to tolerate other people spewing shit and not respond.
take some solace in the fact that the casual observer understands where the fault lies (Rager, I'm looking at you)...

School. specifically inner city schools and the teachers/para pros/principals/everyone else who thinks it is perfectly acceptable for a child to miss extended periods of time, learn basically nothing and still move on to the next level. I have read shity study after shitty article about how holdign kids back hurts their self esteem or some other dumb ass shit. Fuck that. What we need to be doing is only passing students who understand the material. Maybe then we wouldn't see schools with a three year average ACT score of 14 still in existence. It's horrible out here. I can count on two hands the number of students (out of 180) who have less than 5 absences this semester. And it isn't like this is some aberation from the norm. I get that buses suck, and parents lack vehicles, but why the fuck are you coming to a school three seperate buses away? And why the fuck do you think that I should just consider 'first hour' some magical world where attendance is a privilege? I teach in Detroit because I feel like the best teachers should be on the front lines where we can have the most impact. And I am successful with the people who show up. But, there is nothing that can be done for people who don't fucking show up!!!! And don't get me started on the concept of poverty that includes expensive ass shoes, new nails/hair, or whatever else, but you need my buck fifty for a bus ride home... cause we are back to the buses and the students attending schools nowhere near their neighbor hood...
Or don't get me started on how school of choice is a great idea in practice but basically it just ends up in kids attending a new school every year and missing out on the instruction from teachers who know them and care for them... I would retire if I didn't love chaos and a good challenge. Inne-city education is the ultimate definition of a sisyphean task.

I love that she is a dedicated mother and a hard working woman. I also like that she breast feeds in public, not because I am a perv but because I think that breastfeeding, or rather the American way of dealing with it, is absurd. you probably just don't like her cause you don't like her music and/or her persona, and that is fine, but when it comes to being a solid role model you should read up on her.

I think the point isn't so much that Stannis is brutal as he is pragmatic. Also, it is a great question to ask your readers to ponder: Is one innocent life worth killing to protect countless others? Both sides can argue with complete support of logic and the side you take says a lot about how you view the world we live in...

Spoiler alert: Do not open link unless you want an answer to the question above: http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Characters_significantly_changed_bet... Look under the heading: Minor changes: differences in naming, appearance, and ageOne of the people under that (name starts with R) has been mentioned by GRRM as having a larger part in Winds of Winter. So, we have a dead character from the series who plays a role much later in the books...
hope that makes sense. I didn't want to spoil anything.

I've mentioned in other threads that my time in Bolivia helped me to understand that I am also part of the problem, so yes there is a little irony... That said, reading all the responses here the only hope lies in us each individually refraining from acting like a child when we have such impulses. Is that easy? Not as easy as it should be. love, jdon

I should clarify: they are alive going into book six. I heard it on an interview with GRRM, and one in particular comes back to play a much bigger part... but like I said, it is what it is.

character development for Stannis. Basically you have the Red Woman and Davos workign almost as an angel and a devil on his shoulders. The importance of Gendry is that he represents a conflict for Stannis and helps to juxtapose the different kings. I actually like this alteration as well. Look at Tywin stating that killing 12 men is better than a thousand while Davos is screaming that saving one innocent person is worth risking thousands of others... Stannis on the show is much better than stannis in the book and he is growing on me... Davos is building up to Bronn like status (Bronn being by far the coolest minor character in ASOIAF) jdon

| 1 week 2 days ago | timing... |
in the books he arrives after Joffery's wedding... it will change some scenery but shouldn't matter much...
sidenote: I did find out last week that there are currently four characters in the series that are dead on the show and alive in the books... I won't spoil anything, but I will not that as we go further I am accepting the changes much better than I was even a couple weeks ago; The frustration that some people feel over changes can drain their enjoyment of the show, which is ultimately an adaptation, nothing more, nothing less.

the interaction betwen the Hound first with Sansa and later with Arya is textbook perfect writing on character development...

I am a little concerned this site has become subject to random dumb ass trolls... people talkign about hardons for recruites, or logging into OT threads to bitch about them being OT, and a general decline in respect. Its sad. Sure it is inevitable as the sites popularity grows new people come, old people who have been here longer become arrogant, and generally becomes difficult to manage... I would like to see the mods lock posters who intentionally troll these boards... I had my time off in bolivia and it gave me some perspective.... perspective I had to share... Omar: you are pathetic.

this was the best episode ever... seriously; there was a lot of the stuff in this episode that was alluded to or outright not part of the books and for once I think it all filled out the story. I did not think we would see the wolfhead or any more of Ramsey (who is pushing the bounds of how much i can tolerate in one arc). What i enjoyed the most was the personal developement of the characters, I felt like it filled out a lot of the missing pieces of the story as a whole. Can't wait for next year! jdon

| 1 week 5 days ago | on jumping the shark... |
years from now when we look back and try to figure out when Mgoblog jumped the proverbial shark, or at least got a little bit more creepy than the normal following of recruiting and college sports can be (OMG shirtless anyone?), I will point to the picture of a pig eating a carrot out of a lineman's belly button as the apex of the decline...
idk, jdon

| 1 week 5 days ago | welcome to detroit... |
this is somewhat off topic but it fits: I have been teaching in Detroit for 6 years now and I can say, antidotely at least, that only 20% of students finish high school where they started... even lower if you actually want those kids to graduate... jdon
