Signing Day Central

Back when ESPN was respected, I remember they would have a preseason show with all their studio guys and some color commentators and they'd sit at a table covered in preseason magazines. I used to be glued to the TV for that type of stuff. Now, I just come here.

I remember when the only coverage for Michigan was very brief notations in the Ann Arbor News which only covered commitments of the very highest order, e.g. Ricky Leach's commitment was noted because there had been controversy as to the possibility of his going a pro baseball route out of high school.  Signing day coverage was very sparse and didn't coverer all the signees.  The coverage would pick up a little during fall camp, but again, it. was mostly about freshmen who were standing out.  For the most part, you didn't care about freshman at all until they did something of note on the field itself.  Good personal example:  I'd never heard about Anthony Carter until the first punt I saw him return at the stadium. (I was pretty well sold on him after that...)

Remember when signing day was accompanied by mgoblog poster Maizen shitting on every recruit not being "elite" or worthy of an OSU offer?

That guy must be really miserable these past 3 years.

Back in the '80's I got an annual recruiting brochure from some guy named Joe Terranova. It was a folded brochure. Looked like he printed it standing in a Kinko's at 3am.
