OT: MSU's Dantonio let go of DL coach Ted Gill
I am a little surprised that the OC is not fired yet. Many Spartan fans want him to be fired.

Go blue! Go Green ! (no, not that Sparty Green).

Because it's more relevant than a drinking or retiring thread.
Also I like to think Tom Gholston's underacheiving had something to do with this, which is enjoyable to me.

was Hoke's D Line Coach. Hoke was his own DL Coach at S Diego St, and of course Jerry Montgomery is D Line Coach here.

then took time out of your life to post a response. That looks like an awful lot of caring for someone who isn't sure why he cares.

Well said. The level of effort required to click a post and then type something coherrent in my native language is pretty much zero, and says nothing about what I do or do not care about.

In fairness to LB, his avatar is a dead horse. So..

Well they don't have any d-linemen so I don't see why they need a DL coach.

Bravo, sir.

Interesting. Was it Ted Gill who was responsible for MSU's DL being pretty good the past few years, or was it the D coord?
Ligitimate question, I really don't know. This seems an odd move to me

Ted Gill has a very good resume.
Also, Defensive Coordinator for the 2002 Grey Cup Champion Montreal Alouettes.

Good thing he graduated and was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

I believe.

a mutual parting of the ways? Gill will land on his feet quickly.
January 25th, 2013 at 8:44 PM ^
Coach D: "Ted, come in here a minute".
Coach Gill: "Okay Mark, what is it?"
Coach D: "Ted, our failures of the past season...in recruiting, in losing most of the top talent in the state, in our offensive performance, in Coach Roushar's playcalling, in Tom Gholston's regression, in our not laying in the weeds...it's ALL YOUR FAULT!
I'm going to have to let you go. Leave your stuff by my Kirk Cousins statuette. KThanx.

Doesn't MSU have a decent dental school? I guess they don't provide dental insurance to their coaches. Dantonio's teeth are f**ked up.

I'm more disturbed by what, from my professional medical perspective, looks like a case of anemia in Mark Dantonio. He's as sallow as he can be. Can you imagine him tearing into a slab of ribs specially prepared by the mother of a prize recruit from, say, Selma, or Foley Alabama? There would be far too much meat on that plate for any trust to develop! Plus he didn't even touch his okra or his collards!

I heard it was because he had a telephone interview with Central Michigan. He was overheard saying he would love to move up in life, and take a job with the number two program in the state.
January 25th, 2013 at 11:03 PM ^
Or maybe it's because he's been spotted at Michigan Basketball home games.
January 25th, 2013 at 11:04 PM ^
This seems like an incredibly stupid move by Dantonio.

The Extreme AND the Allouettes. Talk about a journeyman...
Dear Coach Dantonio,
The only reason you've been winning any games the last few years is your Defense. Letting ANYONE from your defensive staff go is as dumb as we would expect from you. Carry on.
January 25th, 2013 at 11:50 PM ^
Please have roushar coach D-line as well....
January 26th, 2013 at 12:00 AM ^
MSU had one of the top 10 defense in the country and best in the B1G. If something isn't broke don't fix it. MSU will regret this move. Moreover, they were better off firing their OC after their horrible offensive production this year.

If Roushar didn't have some sort of pictures etc. then I wonder what keeps him around...

January 26th, 2013 at 1:30 PM ^
Roushar's only been their OC for two seasons (2011 and '12). They were pretty good offensively in '11, but nothing really remarkable, especially given how much talent they had.
January 26th, 2013 at 10:46 AM ^
D-line was the weak link of the defense this year, they just couldn't get pressure. Look at Gholston, 2 years on the line and he developed no technique at all. But that's not the main reason for the fire, imo. He's getting old and he hates recruiting. The prospects that he recruited in the past few years:
2013 - none
2012 - David Fennell (Family Connection)
2011 - Darien Harris, Matt Romando (Family/friend Connection, eventually transferred)
2010 - None
2009 - None
