TWIS is up. Colorado Come On Down!!!

(Old Gif, but apt) Come for the Buffs, stay for the Hokies, Spartans and Trojans!

For the life of me I can't understand why Colorado is so terrible. I know their program was kind of shady when McCartney was winning big there, but is it really impossible for them to be clean and successful?
September 18th, 2012 at 1:57 PM ^
have you been to colorado? yes, yes it is. What are you going to tell an elite recruit on a visit. Come here and you can ski 300 days a year. The women don't look sooo bad when you have all the coors you can drink..
September 18th, 2012 at 2:02 PM ^
Then how can Colorado State and Air Force, which are located nearby, field halfway decent teams? Not to mention the neighboring state of Utah, which has half the population of Colorado but has three respectable programs (Utah, BYU, USU).
Colorado won a national title in 1990. They won a Heisman in 1994. It's not like they have zero history. They shouldn't be on the Indiana level.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:02 PM ^
Coaching. I personally cannot remember the last time Colorado was any good. But when it comes down to it, it is all about coaching.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:57 PM ^
Speaking of Colorado's terrible coaching, isn't Colorado's athletic department also in the hole, financially? I seem to remember them lacking the funds to pay for Hawkins' buy-out, let alone picking up a top-notch guy after ousting Hawkins.
September 18th, 2012 at 5:47 PM ^
It has been (AD in financial trouble), and that's been a big part of the problem, although they are finally just about through the buyout of Hawkins + the buyout of the Big XII, and will be getting Pac12 revenues so that should be on its way out. The real problems now are godawful coaching, and a university community that has no real interest in having a good football team. If somehow the academic side can be made to see how valuable a successful football program can be to the school as a whole, there is hope, but until then (as it has been for the last 7-8 years), it's going to continue to be rough.
September 19th, 2012 at 1:28 AM ^
That and there isn' any community support either. Lackluster corp sponsors, weak season tix sales, and little donations from alumns.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:11 PM ^
Air Force does not recruit.

Have you been to Boulder? It's a beautiful city and a great college town with plenty of going on.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:18 PM ^
September 18th, 2012 at 2:23 PM ^
As someone that spent a summer in Boulder on an internship, you have no idea what you are talking about and need to stop now. And I say that even though I missed ski season.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:31 PM ^
Sorry, Philbert, but you lost your argument when you named "Columbus" favorably as a comparable community.
September 18th, 2012 at 3:19 PM ^
When you throw "cbus" into the discussion, in the same sentence as Ann Arbor nonetheless, we know you're reaching for straws.
September 18th, 2012 at 5:37 PM ^
- pro tip- never say anything bad about boulder on this blog cause people really really like it.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:37 PM ^
Lulwat? Boulder is a great city. You have to hate nice things in life if you don't like Boulder.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:49 PM ^
The ship hasn't sunk yet . . . abandon ship! Don't go down with it!
Boulder is an amazing city. And I havent even been there during ski season. I've also been to Clemson and Columbus and if you are honestly putting either of those towns above Boulder on the list of top college towns I'm going to have to call the authorities. This is a Drug-Free Blog Zone.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:22 PM ^
Fail. Colorado women are hot. Boulder is usually 50 and sunny in the winter. Have you actually been there?
September 18th, 2012 at 2:59 PM ^
Boulder has more days of sunshine annually than Miami or San Diego. Anyone who says that Columbus is a better city should be relegated to Bolivian for sacrilege and stupidity.

September 18th, 2012 at 4:28 PM ^
I'm honestly wondering if the phrase, "I went to Colorado and it sucked!" has ever been uttered?
September 18th, 2012 at 4:37 PM ^
Closest I ever heard was "I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this"
September 18th, 2012 at 5:14 PM ^
+1 so, so hard. I'm talking a raging, truly obscene +1 here. The kind they'd feel weird about giving up at the Adult Movie Awards.
September 19th, 2012 at 11:03 PM ^
That John Denver is full of shit man
September 18th, 2012 at 3:16 PM ^
Maybe you have higher standards, but I thought the girls of Boulder were pretty damn good looking. It took a handful of days before I spotted the first girl that wasn't fit. Or maybe it was indeed all the beer I drank.
September 19th, 2012 at 1:20 AM ^
You're a moron. Boulder is beautiful and full of pretty transplants from LA and Phoenix. Front Range winters are pretty darn easy for places where can snow. CU's academics are solid too. There's no reason, other than self inflicted stupidity, that CU cannot be a big time program.

Colorado has a football team? I thought all they do is ski.

"Some F---ing Statistics" - Spartan reply to the question, "You know what would look really sweet on those scoreboards?"
To be quite fair, 0 TDs is a statistic, as are 23-45 and 187 yards passing.
September 18th, 2012 at 1:59 PM ^
I like the idea of using shit, turd and poop as a stat for sparty better. It fits them well. go Staee!!
September 18th, 2012 at 1:58 PM ^
This week is a good one, but dang that USC guy is an asshat. Plus, the Sparty tears taste oh so great, but man I really hope Brian doesn't have to be the main focus of next week's TWIS.
September 18th, 2012 at 10:19 PM ^
Noteworthy in my view that all the MSU related stuff came only from one place, likely specifically selected and narrowly tailored for the occasion.

I second Brian's request for a 'We played Alabama' support group.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:08 PM ^
Loved the gif of the Texas guy about to taunt the Marine and getting more than he bargained for.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:16 PM ^
Being a Michigan fan in TX , I would love to post that on my FB. Can anyone help me out?
September 18th, 2012 at 2:21 PM ^
Facebook doesn't support actual GIF's on the feed, but just link the link

This clearly wins the gif of the year competition.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:14 PM ^
I cannot stop watching this...so damn funny
September 18th, 2012 at 2:18 PM ^
The guy on the right, with the buzz cut, is worth watching.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:29 PM ^
He looks almost exactly like Hoke.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:41 PM ^
In that they're both overweight? Past that, I don't see any similarities.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:50 PM ^
They do look similar in the face. Not the hair, obviously, but in the face, I can see it.
September 19th, 2012 at 1:21 AM ^
The facial resemblance is there. The hair is a lot different. If they had the same hair it would be super obvious, but there is no denying that it's there.
I'm shocked that I was negged and also shocked that they drew the "fat" comparison when the face is so obvious

September 18th, 2012 at 2:23 PM ^
Civilians do NOT salute officers.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:25 PM ^
The Marine is not an officer, but yeah, I don't think he took too kindly to it.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:40 PM ^
Or at least that is what I have read on other sites. They say he was shushing the crowd.
September 18th, 2012 at 2:47 PM ^
And nobody salutes a gunnery sergeant, which is what that guy is, unless they want to have tinnitus for the rest of their life but instead of a hum or a buzz it sounds like FUCK YOU I WORK FOR A LIVING over and over.
