Just a breaking news alert at the moment, no details.

blonde dude and I once had a black mohawk...what's it to you?
August 10th, 2012 at 1:41 PM ^
the Lions sure could use him and he seems to fitr their off the field MO
August 10th, 2012 at 2:13 PM ^
Yes, it's too late. But yeah, if he could get in the Lions would have to look into giving up a first-rounder for him given their needs.
August 10th, 2012 at 1:43 PM ^
Didn't their starting quarterback curbstomp a Marine last year?

That's highly larious.
August 10th, 2012 at 2:24 PM ^
Bravo!
August 10th, 2012 at 1:44 PM ^
He's already taken lots of money off his own table through his own lack of sense, and it's an unusual person who can pull out of a steep dive without crashing first.
August 10th, 2012 at 1:44 PM ^
Well, at least we won't have to hear Brent Musberger pointing out that this young man's nickname happens to be "Honey Badger" at least 40 times during the game.
August 10th, 2012 at 1:46 PM ^
The once and future Chad Johnson might disagree.....
Replying to OldBlueman comments above......
August 10th, 2012 at 2:00 PM ^
Chad is into coloration matching of teeth with hair.
August 10th, 2012 at 1:49 PM ^
bad for L.S.U. to dismiss him from the team. Especially such a star player. At least give credit to Miles for making a stand.
August 10th, 2012 at 1:53 PM ^
I know the kid has a history of making dumb decisions off the football field, but I honestly didn't see this coming. Really thought that if any primarily defensive player could ever again seriously make a run at the Heisman, the honey badger would be the guy.
August 10th, 2012 at 2:01 PM ^
He's a fun player. I'll miss watching him. Hopefully he can turn things around.
August 10th, 2012 at 2:07 PM ^
Sounds like he failed a third drug test, which apparently at LSU means you get the boot.
I've heard Peter King of SI is floating it out there that it might have been for something more serious than weed. We'll see, but he's already failed two other drug tests for weed.
Regardless, how fucking stupid do you have to be? Everyone knows you get drug tested when you show up at fall camp. All you have to do is pass that test and you're fine.
It's one thing to get popped by a random test. It's another thing if I tell you in 8 months you're going to have to undergo a drug test and you fail because you couldn't give up smoking dope for a couple months.
August 10th, 2012 at 2:12 PM ^
But if it's weed....good chance this is largely is a case of stupid. Can the Lion's pick him up? We need DBs!

Some people can't take even a month off, sadly.
August 10th, 2012 at 2:36 PM ^
If it's weed, all it takes is a few days and flushing your system with some diuretics. If you can't pass a scheduled drug test you're just not even trying. It just boggles the mind these guys don't even make an attempt given the stakes they stand to lose.

A friend of mine has hyperthyroidism, resulting in a super fast metabolism. He had to take a pre-employment drug test three times (which was only allowed because he had his doctor attest to the hyperthyroidism) because the lab was suspicious since absolutely nothing was showing up in the urine test, making it seem like the method reshp1 described.
So I say to the mgobloggers seeking employment, just put down the pipe for a few damn months and avoid inhaling around Ann Arbor in the month of April. Better safe than sorry when it comes to your job.

espn speculation is that 3 failed drug tests gets you expelled from LSU.
Exciting player, especially being so short... really unfortunate to see all these kids potentaly messing up their futures with bad decisions.

His second punt return in the SEC Championship Game against Georgia might be the greatest return I've ever seen and he didn't even score.
EDIT: video embed fail.
August 10th, 2012 at 2:22 PM ^
Greatest return ever? C'mon. It's a really nice return. It isn't even close to being in the top 10 returns of all time let alone the greatest return ever.
August 10th, 2012 at 2:27 PM ^
That's the hype speaking.
August 10th, 2012 at 2:47 PM ^
More bad angles than a third-hand geometry textbook.
August 10th, 2012 at 2:51 PM ^
Best part is when he stutter steps #18 and then 18 gets smoked by a block.
August 10th, 2012 at 3:34 PM ^
It wasn't even the best punt return that season.
Joe Adams' wild return is so much closer to best return of all time and certainly the best of last year.

Here's a link to ESPN's own story - it doesn't add much right now, but it does have this in it:
"A source told ESPN's Joe Schad on Friday that Mathieu has been looking for a new school to play for this season."
If we take that to mean that he has been looking prior to today's announcement, then he might have known for a while that this was coming.
As late as a week ago, I thought I had read that they were having to decide between playing him at corner or nickelback, so I assume that he was in a battle for a starting job at CB potentially.
It's hard to see kids with that much potential get derailed by poor decisions. Hopefully, he finds a place where he can straighten out, finish out and get into the NFL as he would like.

mathieu is the most overated player in college football. He's a good corner and a great punt returner. He probally is not a top 25 college football player tough. As a NFL prospect I think hes a 3rd or 4th rounder.

who spent a lot of NFL money because he couldn't lay off the drugs.

Question: how can this 3 failed tests you're out rule be an institution-wide guideline?
I can't imagine the university, or any other for that matter, randomly screening its students for drugs.
Something isn't adding up here.
August 10th, 2012 at 3:07 PM ^
Summer term just ended.
If he had a borderline GPA going into summer term and he failed to go to class, he could have been asked not to return. This meets both requirements. This also explains why the announcement was just made today and not earlier. With all of the help that is available to student athletes in terms of tutors, this would be more shocking than a drug violation.

a son to me.....
a honey badger son.....
now put the pipe down.

At first I said I wanted him to come to M, but if it is drug-related, then hell no.
August 10th, 2012 at 4:13 PM ^
Agreed. I would also be worried about the way fans would look at him. Recreational marijuana use is not well accepted in AA.

i suppose this shouldn't have amused me.. but it did.
