How do you handle losing?
It sucks when Michigan loses. I feel it all week. But I think it takes character and strength to pick yourself up, whether you're a fan/alum or a player, and move on. So next week is Illinois, another team of dorks. Who's with me? Let's drink, watch more football today, and look forward to next week's game. I like our team, and I like Brady Hoke. Not sure yet about Uncle Festus. I do think Denard can pass the ball for what it's worth.

If robinson knew how to pass we would be posting in thread about "how we handle winning"
Can't even remember the last time robinson hit one of those deep routes in stride like he should be able to do with tree in the 4th quarter. Hes obviously our best qb but those last 4 plays were terrible, not one roll out? is nobody telling denard its ok for him to scramble and run?
November 5th, 2011 at 4:15 PM ^
completed a higher percentage of passes and for more YPA last year than Chad Henne ever did here. Maybe he CAN pass and our offense this year is designed to maximize his deficiencies.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:39 PM ^
I'd think the coaches told him to pass. If he runs and fails, then the game's over. I was annoyed that the coaches opted for the time-out instead of the spike after Roundtree's last catch. It would at least give the option for Denard to run the ball once.

But I am pretty pissed right now. And hungry. Very hungry.
Oh, and I have a fucking toothache that hurts something fierce whenever I consume liquids. YEA.

Well, I hate to admit it, but, like U-M football of old when we were always in the Big 10 championship hunt at least until mid-season, it's time to disengage a little bit now that we're out of it. In a way, it's nice to know that I don't have to spend as much time on MGoBlog. Thanks for that, boys. I'll be checking out until the game next Saturday.

Also after this week I think of Michgan basketball and how next year Blake Griffin is morphing into one Mitch McGary and he is playing for the Maize and Blue. Plus this year football and basketball both still have a lot to play for.
In the end this is only a game but yeah it sucks that we didn't execute as well as we could have nor did the refs.
I guess I cope with run on sentences.

A loss is a loss is a loss. Nothing soothes the pain, except maybe a particularly good party.
On the bright side, basketball season's starting...

Michigan has never legitimately lost a game. The other team always cheats. This week somebody got to the refs.
November 5th, 2011 at 5:10 PM ^
Every fan base that loses spends the next couple hours spouting off the steam for a bit. It is normal. It's this thing called human nature. However, when you sober up and read again, you'll see many fans sharing the blame with Borges and too many UM miscues. The refs did not help at all, but they were not to blame entirely.
Kind of like the MSU pass interference against Desmond on the last play. Yeah refs blew the call, but it was on us for putting ourselves in that position where we relied on that play to win.
Here on the other hand, the refs blew three critical calls, not just one, so it is very reasonable for UM fans to be upset right now.

Losing happens. The game was fun to watch, though.
And the D. Great improvement.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:14 PM ^
we put ourseleves in this horrible position, had a chance to bail ourselves out, and then really never had a chance thanks to a couple shakey at best calls. Winning this one would have felt like grand theft.
nothing to do but drink and wait for Alabama/LSU

November 5th, 2011 at 4:15 PM ^
Hemingway caught a clear touchdown pass that was called incomplete by the refs. Last play was clearly pass interference that wasn't called by the refs. I'm thinking score one for the refs. They still show that they have the power to call games.
So, I'm taking it piss-poorly.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:15 PM ^
I just want to see the team once again become a good to great team. It will probably take a while but at least our defense is taking some baby steps in the right direction.
Oh well, looks like 7-5 may be our final record (50 %) 8-4 (40 %) 9-3 (8 %) 10-2 (2%)

A week of depression. And I just know the Lions aren't going to win tomorrow... /s
November 5th, 2011 at 4:18 PM ^
Well tonight I'm going to watch the 1 vs 2 matchup and listen to the debate that says the loser of the game should play in the national championship for a rematch. I will then reminisce about the last time a 1 vs. 2 matchup occured and think about how we used to be so good at football. Then i will realize we lost that damn game and I will start drinking.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:23 PM ^
I talk to my fiancee...seriously. She knows me like a book shes read a million times.
For example, today she immediately said "That should have been a catch and why didnt they call pass interference"?...so instead of me getting to use those excuses, I end up responding "Well, we put ourselves in that position in the first half and this team is still learning. They will get better. On to next game". She smiles, I'm consoled (and partially optimistic) and the day seems easier.

Does she have a sister?
November 5th, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
Actually, yes. I'll see what I can do.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:24 PM ^
Philosophically. The older I get, the faster next season's possibilities come around.
We can still win possibly a couple more this year. And that's not bad for a transitional year.
You gotta look at the big picture. Otherwise you drive yourself crazy.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:25 PM ^
concur. great class coming in, senior denard, more seasoning for the staff. only problem with next year is the insane schedule... road ND, NU, OSU and Alabama.... ugh.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:26 PM ^
We've been transitioning the last four years and my fear is that the result is a team that will resemble Carr's teams that topped out at very good. I don't see a national championship until they crack down on oversigning in the south.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
Age does have some advantages--a more longterm perspective and more money. Other than that, I can't really think of any positives to getting older. Wait, now I have something else to be depressed about.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:24 PM ^
i scream at the tv a lot and wonder why i don't have better control over my emotions like some people do.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:25 PM ^
Borges is as much at fault for the result as is that clusterfuck of officiating. I hope all the Rod haters are happy that we're back to prehistoric football with the one caveat being that our coach at least goes for it on 4th down. What blows my mind is that the blueprint for success is there, but we get a crotchety coach who gets mad about facing bubble screens but has done nothing to improve what was a dynamic offense. Neg me if you want, but I'm not saying Rod shouldn't have been fired, but Borges looks like the Gerg of the offense.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:32 PM ^
has said all the right things, but two straight I formation runs into an 8 box alignment tells me he is like a old basketball player that would really like to crossover dribble and take his man to the basket but discovers he lost the handle on the dribble, tripped over his own feet and watches his defender go the other way for two.
Borges sucked today...and so did my analogy but it's all I had in my mind, since it happened to me recently.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:25 PM ^
I just continue to read MGoBlog comments and stuggle through watching the first half of the 330 games until things get interesting in the 2nd half.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:33 PM ^
When I feel that we lost because of poor play calling and poor execution, I don't handle it well. Thats how I feel today.
Is Denard MUCH MORE HESITANT on every running play this year, or is it just me? After listening to Chris Spielman for 3 hours, my mood is even more sour.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
Forget about his passing for a minute.... He seems to wait so long on his runs. Are the lanes not there/just slow to develop or is he just more hesitant this year? Or maybe it's that we've been so spoiled over the last season and a half with some unreal rushing stats that we expect amazing every time he touches it.
November 5th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
We are the dorks; simultaneously, we are the jocks. We are everything, and we are nothing that is not everything. This contradiction of being two things that are one thing is really not a contradiction; rather, it is just a thing. To say, however, that "it ain't no thang," would be patently false. Therefore, it is a thing; it is our identity. This is what our identity has become.

I flip my coffee table, pretend to throw away my football jerseys and then mope for the rest of the week. As much as I love Michigan football, I think I'd be a whole lot happier of a person during the fall if I wasn't so emotionally attached...
