Year 4 and Tom Herman just can't pull it together

Former buckeye coach loses 33-31 at home versus unranked TCU. This should knock out the Big 12 from the playoff.

Assuming a full season, the limited amount of games really makes it likely that there will be multiple undefeated teams. SEC East (Georgia or Florida) and West (Alabama or auburn) champions will probably be undefeated and loser of the title game will definitely get the nod over a home loss to Kansas State. OSU will likely go undefeated, ditto Clemson or Notre Dame depending on who wins (it will be Clemson). Won't give the pac 12 the benefit cause they're always a tire fire. But yeah, I'd say Oklahoma's season is already over

I guess it depends on how you look at it. They were also in position to win, and won a close game last week. All that matters is you win. Harbaugh barely beat Army last year and lost in blowout fashion to Wisky and lost on the last play to PSU.

Mullen has been solid but he's ducked bama every year so far and hasn't beaten Georgia

Basically playing in the Big Ten West and putting up one win better than Harbaugh. I think there's zero debate on this blog that if we played in the west, Harbaugh would have multiple division titles and potentially a playoff appearance. Happy with who we have

Michigan didn't give a shit about that game.  This is the new trend that the playoffs inadvertently started, or at least contributed to.  If you are a contender who doesn't make it (and got worked by your rival in the previous game) you're going to have NFL bound guys sitting out (no way Chase Young plays in a non playoff game) and guys who don't give a shit.  Wino and Khaleke were the only guys who stood out as playing hard.

Florida, on the other hand, was excited.  They had a better season than they expected, so the bowl was a reward, not a consolation prize.

Perhaps Mullen is a better coach than Harbaugh but I wouldn't base that case on that game

I don't know if Mullen is a better coach, but he has a far better backyard in which to recruit than does Harbaugh.  I do believe that Mullen is a VERY good coach, probably top-10 in the country.  However, I do NOT have the impression that he is an elite recruiter.

It's difficult to find a guy that can recruit at a high level, develop players to a high level, excel at calling the "X's and O's" while simultaneously avoiding off-the-field issues.  There are few coaches that can excel at all of those.  Right now, those coaches seem to be Saban and Dabo, although Ryan Day might one day be in that very elite, exclusive, group.  Kirby Smart might be in that group too, although I have some doubts about the culture of their program.
