Remember RR vs Miss St?

Submitted by Frito Bandito on November 14th, 2020 at 8:50 PM

It’s happening right now. I remember watching that bowl game thinking alright..This team has given up. Theres no way RR survives this. His players have quit on him. So here we are again. This team has given up. Players, recruits, boosters could not look at this season and say anything positive. Harbaugh could sing Grobin tomorrow and still get the axe. Grobin likes his coaches to pop.

I felt that 2014 Hoke. You could just see it. The guys played with flat feet, falling all over the field. Penalties, mistakes, no fight. You could just everyone gave up on each other.

This is worse. The MSU loss was truly a program-defining moment - they are that bad.  Losing to IU for the first time in 24 games was seismic.
This total ass-kicking will hopefully spur the conclusion and action necessary two weeks ago.
Harbaugh has lost this team and his ability to drive results. Warde has no choice.

I remember drinking myself to oblivion watching that game and thinking we should have hired Mullen.  Even during the Hoke search, I wanted Mullen.  I thought having another spread guy transition to take over the program would have been a better transition than starting all over with Hoke.  I digress though, it's definitely not an option now but this is why I am clamoring for another spread guy to come work with Gattis if they decide to keep him.  I know it will be like starting over but transitioning again away from spread and trying to figure out whether your o-line is going to man or zone block again?  No thanks.

I was there in the second row.

UM scored on their first possession. After that, MSU defensive players were calling out UM's plays at the LoS -- we could hear them. I don't think we scored when it mattered again.

Tonight is that bad.

Fire Harbaugh now.

Thing about losing to a fucking awful MSU... MSU is the better team. Harbaugh has the worst team in the East. Thanks for making us Illinois while you made yourself rich you fraud.

If 2010 RichRod was Harbaugh instead, I have a feeling he would have been coaching in 2011 and beyond.

Back to reality...this season has 2014 written all over it, but may even be worse. Harbaugh cannot have another year - especially a lame duck year considering his contract status.

It must end. Thank you for 3 solid seasons. However, new blood is needed.

Joe Milton doesn’t have a ton of football sense yet. Can’t read coverage. Can’t instinctively throw the ball away to save time.

But supposedly he can throw the ball 80 yards in the air. So why let the clock run down to end the half and take a time out into the half with you? This team has simply quit.

This is worse than Rich Rod.  At least he could BEAT a good Wisconsin team in 2008 with a mess of an offense.  And Rich Rod was never shut out of a half.

Heck, I'll go so far as to say this is worse than even Hoke. Hoke's shutout came from a Notre Dame team that was much better than this Wisconsin squad.

Revisionist history, that Wisconsin team was AWFUL. 7-6, 3-5 in the big ten with wins over Illinois, Minnesota, and Indiana who were all terrible. Non-conference wins were over Fresno, Cal Poly by 1 in overtime in the last game of the year (WTF?), Akron, and Marshall. Lost to every team with a pulse and even one without one (us)

Actually, RR-coached Michigan teams were twice shut out in the first half of games against Wisconsin (19-0 in 2008 and 24-0 in 2010).

This reminds me more of MSU versus Michigan, 2002.  That was the game that got Booby Williams fired.  The team had obviously quit on Williams.  He was fired Monday.  Same thing needs to happen here.

The absolute worst that can happen is that firing Harbaugh tomorrow doesn't light a fire under the team, and you get the exact same result that you would have gotten if you had kept him.  The best that can happen is that a sufficiently fired up and talented team beats Rutgers, Maryland, and Penn State, who is probably also about to fire their coach.  A win against the crossover opponent on CCG weekend is possible too.  The season is, incredibly, still salvageable.  With a new coach.  At least the game would be worth watching next weekend if Gattis is the interim coach.

I forced myself to watch the entire Mississippi St. debacle as a test of my fandom and to fully immerse myself in the embarrassment.  I convinced myself at the time it was worth it to so I could remember how awful it felt when times got better.

I've tried to keep a positive feeling this year, but I'm getting notable Mississippi State vibes again.   I'll watch the second half, but I'm not sure I can stomach witnessing a 56-0 defeat at the Big House.

Maybe we can have a Penn State 2019 second half turnaround?  Maybe?   I'm grasping at straws here.

I am not sure they could afford to fire him even if they wanted to.  The Athletic Department has to be getting its financial ass kicked this year.  The best we can hope for is a “conscious uncoupling” where Jim “decides” to leave for a job in the League (paging Mr. Ross) and we all pretend “with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind” how great it was to have him as our coach.
