OT: What's in your golf bag
Aight mgofriends, thread is as easy as the title. Bored in quarantine, and trying to get more into golf once our public health experts deem it safe. I'm a newb so my clubs are on the cheaper end, just curious to how our mgogolfers fill out their 14.
Here's mine:
-Wilson Ultra Driver
-Wilson Ultra 3 wood
-Adamsgolf Speedline Draw 5 wood
-Wilson Ultra 4 hybrid (21 deg)
-Slazenger v300 5 hybrid (25 deg)
-Wilson Ultra 5i-PW (PW has 46 deg loft)
-Wilson Harmonized Wedges (50 and 56 deg)
-Wilson Ultra putter
Would love if others share their tips/recs
As always, @mods delete if this is too OT.
Not as good as I once was...you know the rest.
Titleist 917 D2 driver, Diamana Blue 60 gram shaft.

I always find a baggy of weed every time I look in random pockets in my golf bag.
Oh, and Cleveland irons w/ Titleist drivers and an Odyssey putter.
Mine contains Taylor Made knockoffs, cobwebs, and probably some spiders. Haven't golfed in years...

So I’m in a similar position where I play with 13 clubs and still trying to figure out what to do with the 14th. Everyone is going to say get a 58 or 60 degree wedge but personally I think having those in the bag can be detrimental to mid handicappers. I’ve seen a lot of people from 80 yds to the fringe pull out the 60 and try to throw a perfect dart at the pin only to skull it. So I haven’t pulled the trigger on that yet as I think I need to perfect chipping with the GW and SW before going to a higher loft. Also if you start having a bad day chipping (as I am prone to) switch to a 7i or 8i and just roll it there.
Some may consider the 6* gap in your wedges to be a little large, most people shoot for 4*.
I like having options at the top of the bag. The longer clubs are generally harder for beginners to hit so if you have some woods and hybrids you feel confident with there’s not as much pressure on smashing your driver off the tee. But you seem to have a lot going on there.
I like the idea someone posted below: getting a 58-60* wedge with different bounce than your others. That way you have more options around the green for hard thin or fluffy wet lies.
Yeah if your gonna do that I would just interchange them depending on the conditions. Not worth it to carry them both.
My course is a bit wonky and has both conditions as a result of being a hilly course built along a marsh with a small maintenance budget. The low parts get pretty soggy, but there’s a few elevated areas that get a lot of foot traffic and not enough love so they are thin and hard.
Forget about the 60 degree wedge as you are correct in your observations.
Very dirty golf clubs. I had back problems years ago and haven't touched them in at least 15 years. They provide a nice visual anchor in the corner of my garage.
Here is my current set up:
Ping G410 Plus Driver 9.5 Degrees
Ping G410 3 wood, set to 13.5 Degrees
Bridgestone TourB X Blade irons 3-PW (sometimes I use a hybrid, but currently sticking with the 3 iron)
Callway Mack Daddy 4 wedges, 50, 54, 58
Ping Anser Milled 5 Putter
As to recommendations, I would say you have too much going on with the top end of your bag. I would always opt for more choices at the lower end of your bag. Wedges can be pretty expensive, so I would search for something on ebay, or try callaway preowned. they have a lot of good options for much cheaper. Their outlet stuff is brand new.
Those Ping G410s are the best driver 3-woods I have ever hit. Ping is at the top of the heap right now as far as I’m concerned with their entire lineup of irons and woods.
You have Bridgestone blades have you tried the Ping Blueprint or iblades?
Taylormade R7 Driver (need to upgrade this badly lol)
Taylormade SIM max hybrid 3 and 4
Taylormade SIM max irons 5-SW
Cleveland 60 degree
Odyssey White Hot Pro 2.0 Putter
R7 one of best drivers ever!
Taylormade Burner 440 10.5 degree driver (need a new one but haven't because it has worked well)
Taylormade 3 & 5 wood (old heavy heads)
Mizuno 21 degree hybrid
Adams Tight Lies 3-PW irons plus a lob wedge
Taylormade Rossa Daytona putter
I have a set of Walter Hagen irons and Ben Hogan woods, or maybe it is the other way around. My MIL gave them to me about 35+ years ago, after not using them for maybe 20 years. She was 6' tall and used men's clubs. They were probably top of the line when she got them, as her first husband was a golf pro.
I play about once a year when some one else pays to watch my incompetence. I'm usually playing to keep the cost per stroke low. Also, I figure I'm a winner for the day if I find more balls than I lose and have at least one hole where I keep it in the fairway.
My favorite club is a chipping wedge, maybe 15 degrees?, which is great for when I'm less than 30 yards from the green. Other than that club, my short iron game is pathetic, so it comes in handy at least a couple times per round.
Callaway epic driver and 3 wood
taylormade m6 irons
vokey wedges
scotty putter
I'm not loving my driver or irons, to be honest. Especially the driver. I want to try the Taylormade/Titleist drivers and see what Ping and Mizuno irons are like. My favorite set of irons was a set of old pings that literally shaved off the cover of balls.
I flew with my trombones stored in an SKB golf club flight case once, so-
Main bass:
Greenhoe-Bach 50bg, with a Shires B62-78 slide and B2.5 lead pipe, with a Greg Black 1gm mouthpiece
Tenor:
Bach 42bo, standard weight slide, with a Hammond 11ml
Small bass:
Conn 70h, slide tuning, serial number dates to 1954, with a Bach 1g mouthpiece
Bourbon
Wilson Triton driver 10 degree
Cobra F8 3 wood
Taylor Made Burner Rescue 3 hybrid
Wilson D300 Irons 4-PW
58 degree Cleveland wedge
Nike Putter
Only thing I really want to add is a 60 degree wedge.
You have a 58 wedge why would you feel the need to add a 60?
Should have said instead of the 58 wedge. I have a gap wedge and pitching wedge as part of my set. Rather than 52 and 58 I wish I had a 60. Especially for sand shots.
That’s a large gap between 52 and 60.
I tend to either need like a 75 yard shot or a lob high out of a bunker/closer to the pin. The 58 serves me fine, but if the bunker has high walls I usually hit them lol
Forget about that 60 degree wedge. You already have a 58 degree. Seriously.
Things in my bag: A full set of used clubs I bought for $60 (Driver, 3-wood, 3-hybrid, 4-hybrid, Irons 5-9, PW and SW, Putter), mountains of used and found balls that I never lose, brand new balls that I lose in droves, a pack of tees, a left-handed glove, a right-handed glove, and sunblock.
Things definitely not in my bag: A single, solitary ounce of skill whatsoever.
Just picked up golf this year around Memorial Day. I bought the Wilson XD Linear golf set, including:
Driver, 3 Wood, 4 Hybrid, 5-PW, and a putter. I bought a used Callaway MD4 56 degree wedge last week and it really is fantastic. Now it doesn't feel like my bag is missing anything too important.
I've only played 18 holes once, shot a 130. Once I get more rounds and more practice in, I can think about upgrading / buying clubs that cost more than my whole bag combined
Keep on keeping on. Once you start hovering around 100 is when you'll get hooked. Hope it's been fun for you, though.
Driver: Taylormade M3
3 Wood: Callaway X Hot 2
Hybrid: Titliest H1 2Iron
Irons: 4-6 (Srixon Z585) 7-P (Srixon Z785)
Wedges: Cleveland RTX 4 54 and 58
Putter: Ping Anser 2
I highly recommend getting fitted for clubs after getting comfortable and a few lessons under your belt. Selfish plug for Miles of Golf since I used to be a fitter there...incredibly knowledgable staff and unmatched stock. Properly fitted clubs can really improve your game and you can propose a price point so you don't break the budget either!
TaylorMade RBZ Driver
Mizuno Hybrid
Cleveland Irons/Wedges
Odyssey Putter
Magic Gummy bears in the system.
GO BLUE!
I don't play and there's no golf bag. Good luck to all you golfers and may you get all the clubs you need and want.
Played the University of Michigan Golf Course this last weekend and purchased the sweetest ball marker at the pro shop. A must for your golf bag marker collection. Have not seen anywhere ( mden, etc) but the pro shop at the golf course.
Golf stick?
Nike Slingshot irons (3-P)
Crap putter I've had since 8th grade (works fine)
MacGregor V-Foil 10.5 degree custom cut driver.
Need to get some good fairway woods, there's always sales in the fall.
I've had good luck looking on eBay as well.
Oh man, I like golf but kids and increased load at work has kept me from the course for just over two years. Here's what I pack when I'm playing, though:
TaylorMade M1 460cc driver (I usually hit the 3W, though; don't love this club)
TaylorMade Aeroburner 3W
TaylorMade Aeroburner 4 hybrid
TaylorMade Aeroburner 5-PW
TaylorMade Tour Preferred 58 SW
Cheap Pinemeadow putter
Bridgestone e6 golf ball
How I fit my golf bag is a function of the course I play. I have probably 17 active clubs to choose from for the legal 14. What I do is map out each hole of the course I am playing and which clubs are most likely needed. Like for me my 4 iron and 5 hybrid go about the same distance, however, the hybrid is much higher in trajectory. My home course has a number of uphill approach shots in that distance category, so I go with the higher launch club - the 5 hybrid. Another course I play is flat and firm more like a links layout, so I like the lower trajectory and ability to work the ball. Hybrids fly higher but on this course that can be an issue given it is near the ocean with potentially stiff winds.
Also, mapping out which clubs you typically hit the most often helps design efficient practice sessions to improve your scores. For me, here are the top 5 clubs to practice in this order of time allocation:
- putter (32-36 shots per round)
- driver (12-14 shots per round)
- scoring irons 7-PW (11-14 shots per round)
- hybrids 3-5 (7-9 shots per round)
- sand wedge (bunker and various pitch shots)
Hope this helps. Just tailor this advice to your on-course experience regarding each club. Like driver - maybe you hit more 3Ws off the tee than I do so dedicate more time there. etc., etc.
Balls. Lots and lots of balls
I’m a mid handicapper so I just bought the cobra f-max irons and I like them a lot so far! I use an eye 2 sand wedge, a vokey 52 and 58, odyssey putter and a cobra f 8 driver. I also re-gripped my eye 2 3 iron and threw that in the bag as well to make up for a gap.
*edit*
I also use 3 and 5 wood burners, they are awesome, although a few years old, they perform so well, I just have no need to replace them.
Adams I3 hybrid/irons 4-GW (soon to be replaced)
Cleveland 56deg wedge
Cobra 2, 3 F9 hybrid/fairway woods
Taylor made M5 driver
Ping cra-z putter.
Carry my clubs, Taylor Made RAC 4-6-8-W, Cleveland 54d wedge, Cleveland 384 10.5d driver, Tight lies 3W, Odyssey 330 DualForce putter
Titleist 907 D2 driver 7.5 degree
Titliest f 3 wood 14 degrre
Callaway hybrid 21 degree
Mizzuno blades 4-9
Vokey 46, 52, 58, 64 degree
Wilson blade putter
I don't golf. It's too bourgeois for my tastes.
I have a very cheap Wilson set that I bought from Meijer a couple years ago. I'm not good enough to spend real money on a good set. Includes a driver that I don't use, a wood simply labeled as "Fairway Wood" which is surprisingly strong off the tee, a 4 Hybrid that I somehow lost, 5-9 Irons, a Gap Wedge, and a Putter. All Wilson Ultra. In the future I want to add another hybrid or two and a pitching wedge to fill the distances between my 9 Iron and Gap Wedge.
My advice for keeping golf affordable: book through Golf Now or other online booking sites. And instead of buying expensive boxes of brand new balls, pick up one of those tubs of 100 recycled golf balls to last a year or two. Unless you're really good, it won't make much of a difference in your game, and sometimes you'll find some interesting balls in the tub.
Just got my first ever cart bag (Titelist cart 15) for Father’s Day. I’ll keep my carry bag for the times I walk.
I still use my TM Burner 9 degree Stiff shaft.
I have TM M6 3 and 5 woods
Titelist T100 Xstiff
Cleveland 56 and 60 degree wedges
Drumroll...
Odyssey Rossie II circa 97.
Good post!
Wilson!!!!!!!
Cobra baffler irons 4-Gap. A Cobra 60 degree sando. A couple random hybrids, both by Cobra, and the new Cobra Speed driver at an 8 degree loft. Turns out I am brand loyal.
I actually still have Titleist DCI irons that were my college grad gift from my grandma in ‘98. Blades.... and no, I’m not good enough to play them anymore.
I invested in PXG irons a few years back and they are awesome. I got the 0311 P irons 4i-gap wedge. They're expensive relative to other new iron sets but i justified them saying i'd have them for the next 10+ years and usually play 20-30 times/season. The ball just flies off the club face and have a much higher ball flight than my usual low-flight launch, and picked up about a club length on each iron (i.e. my 8iron goes as far as my old 7i). I'm a mid-single-digit handicap but they have other models that are more forgiving for higher handicaps that are less expensive too. Obviously not a necessity, but if you have the means they're pretty fun clubs to hit.
