The GOAT - Caddy Style

The GOAT - Caddy Style

"You haven't lived until you've played golf with a goat as a caddie." This is something no one has ever said or even thought, but it doesn't necessarily make it untrue. And now, one Oregon resort will allow golfers to give goats a try on the course.

The Retreat & Links at Silvies Valley Ranch in Seneca announced the opening of a new seven-hole course called "McVeigh's Gauntlet" in 2018. As if that name wasn't cool enough, golfers will have the option of taking trained goats as caddies when they take on the seven-hole track. Hey, if goats have been allowed to infiltrate yoga, then why not golf? Goats. So hot right now.

[LOCKED] Semi-OT: NCAA to relocate championships from North Carolina for 2016-2017

[LOCKED] Semi-OT: NCAA to relocate championships from North Carolina for 2016-2017

Submitted by DubbaEwwTeeEff on September 13th, 2016 at 10:02 AM

Looks like the NCAA is following pro sports' examples and pulling events out of North Carolina due to their sexual orientation and gender identity laws.

Affected championship games:

  • 2016 Division I Women’s Soccer Championship, College Cup (Cary), Dec. 2 and 4.
  • 2016 Division III Men’s and Women’s Soccer Championships (Greensboro), Dec. 2 and 3.
  • 2017 Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, first/second rounds (Greensboro), March 17 and 19.
  • 2017 Division I Women’s Golf Championships, regional (Greenville), May 8-10.
  • 2017 Division III Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships (Cary), May 22-27.
  • 2017 Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship (Cary), May 26 and 28.
  • 2017 Division II Baseball Championship (Cary), May 27-June 3.

The release does mention that if a North Carolina team earns the right to play a championship game in their home state, it will be held there.

MOD EDIT - One way you can avoid controversy is not post Breitbart articles generally, or indeed inject more politics into the discussion when there is already politics in the discussion. - LSA

OT - Advice from MGoGolfers

OT - Advice from MGoGolfers

I have recently started going to the driving range with the intent of being a semi-competent, non-embarassing golfer.  But, I know very little about golf, other than scoring and the basics.  I am now able to hit about 175-200 with a driver, and 75-110 with a 7 iron.  I plan to buy some clubs, (1 by 1) and was wondering what order should I buy them.  One of the former pros at the course said a driver is most expensive and least important, but it's also the most fun for me.   Any advice on which clubs to buy, in which order or any other golfing advice for beginners?

Also, anyone in the DM[V] area who golfs regularly, I would love to get together.

UM at the US Open updates: Hicks, Mueller, Wilkes-Krier

UM at the US Open updates: Hicks, Mueller, Wilkes-Krier

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on June 17th, 2016 at 9:02 AM

After a soggy opening day that saw many rounds either postponed or unplayed altogether, UM alum Justin Hicks is in line to make the cut, sitting at +3 and tied for 45th. Rising UM junior Kyle Mueller is at +7 through 14 holes. And Patrick Wilkes-Krier, Huron High grad and son of UM Law professor James Krier, is at +7 through 15.

Hopefully the course plays slower this morning after the rain and Mueller and Wilkes-Krier can make a bit of a run.

Harbaugh coverage at Pebble Beach today

Harbaugh coverage at Pebble Beach today

Submitted by michelin on February 13th, 2016 at 10:34 AM

Harbaugh’s team picked up some ground yesterday.  They now stand in the top half of the field at -7.  They need to pick up about 5 strokes on the field to get into the top 25 and make the cut. That may be a long shot, but is not bad, considering that Harbaugh’s pro partner continued his awful play (+7 for the tourney; only 8 of 156 players are worse).

The Harbaugh team was to tee off at Pebble Beach today at 11.22 am ET.  But the fog has caused a 30 minute delay.  That may help our chances to get TV coverage of him when CBS broadcasts from 3-6pm.  But the pros in his group are not doing well, so CBS may not show much.  A better bet with more extended coverage will be to watch the free streaming coverage of holes 10 and 17.  He should hit the 10th at about 2pm ET (around the same time as the start of UM-Purdue BB) .

About Greg Sankey, SEC Commissioner:

About Greg Sankey, SEC Commissioner:

Submitted by M and M Boys on February 12th, 2016 at 9:01 PM

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey is from New York.

He graduated from the State University of New York College @ Cortland

His masters degree in Education is from Syracuse University.

He was the Director of Intramural Sports at Utica College (NY).

He originally moved to the south to become Director of Compliance at Northwestern State University.  He also coached the Golf Team there (two years).

He was commissioner of the Southland Conference before joining the SEC in 2002.

He likes to run marathons.

He is currently the chairman of the NCAA's Division I Committee on Infractions.

Sankey bolted onto the MGOBLOG in a jetstream fashion for his anti-opinions of the IMG Camp (and future camps like it for a variety of developing reasons). His background (above) might be helpful to those of you who did not know him last week at this time.

According the CBSSports.com, "Sankey does not want to dive into a war of words with Michigan's coach."

"I'm not going to reduce what is an important convesation to some childhood use of Twitter,"

he said.  "This is an important issue".
