OT- It's National Pancake Day

Submitted by Eastside Maize on

In honor of National Pancake day we can all share where we had our best hotcakes at. Whether that be a chain restaurant, greasy spoon or anyone else. For me it's a tie between the pancakes from scratch my grandma used to make and the ones from the Original House of Pancakes..... Mmmmmmm! Pancakes!

wife and daughters cook wonderfully.  blueberry chocolate chip pancakes, made with wheat we grow at the farm, and covered with homemade maple syrup, but only after we have slathered on the butter.

On Waikiki just across the street from the Hilton Hawaiian Village.  If you must stay on Waikiki (an over-crowded touristy trap where tourists are funneled), then you must have breakfast at this shack.  Just a plain diner, not fancy, but the pancakes and coffee are outstanding!  I also recommend the coconut syrup, but will admit it's not for everyone...

My grandad had his own sourdough culture basically foever.

Blueberry ancakes and hot link sausage. The best I've ever had.

Its a great childhood memory.  He used to drive miles at 6 am to pick up the sausage from a specialist.

I have a great recipe that I've embellished over the years. The secret is browning the butter. You almost don't need maple syrup, just some powdered sugar.

Hash House a-go-go in San Diego. Pancakes are over 1" thick, come on a massive platter and still hang off on all sides. But the benedicts tho...as big as your head, smothered in red pepper cream hollandaise, on top of a mountain of bacon and griddled redskin mashed potatoes. Damn it, when's lunch???
