Nico Collins and His Last Official Visit to Georgia (Edited)

Submitted by Caesar on

Edit: This is actually not breaking news or anything. It has been known for some time. Here's the info (link), which read a bit like breaking news.

On the other hand, he has visited Michigan many times, and Harbaugh just had a visit with him.

The sad part is that UGA used to be the SEC school that I kind of liked...now, with Smart as HC, not so much.

I'm not a fan of accusing teams of paying players, but man, it sure seems like UGA has begun doing just that. What is odd, is that it  appears that Smart is specifically targeting UM leans (Wilson and Collins) for the "green carpet" treatment. Does he have some sort of past beef with Harbaugh?

This has been on the agenda for a while and I have thought he would end up at Georgia along with Solomon for some time. Hope I'm wrong on Solomon. Don't care either way on Collins as long as we get he or Martin.

The kid is going to make sure he's making the right decision for him. I think we put in the work and its going to go down to the wire. All these kids want to play, It's a matter of whether or not they want to compete against the best for playing time. If he comes to Michigan its because of the relationship we built over a long period of time plus he wants to get better by competing against the best athletes. I hope he makes the right decision.

Not callign you out cause im happy to believe anyone who claims inside knowledge cause if they dont have any then they will be found out... but all your posts are very cloak and dagger/vague. What do you mean a number? Looking at your post history you imply foul play but dont list any examples. Not sure what to make of it.

Not sure about the starz but WTKA gave one example earlier this week. Where a donor will give say 200k to church 1. This is a tax deductible deposit for the donor. Church 1 will then donate 150k to church 2. So church 1 gets a nice cut and the money moves silently. Then church 2 awards 150k to one of their members who is a 17 year old football star heading off to college. There's dilution and no way to trace. So again, don't know the starz, but yes, you can be talking 6 figures.

So what you are saying is that Nico Collins and his parents are extortionist and have settled on a number. Well we have other commits who visited Georgia, let's just ask them if they were offered money. I know one for sure and he is ranked way higher than Collins, so I am sure if they were throwing money around they would have came at him that way. And after the Wilson thing I am sure he would let Michigan coaches know. Hey it may very well be true, but how do you know. The only way to know is someone knows Nico and he is gabbing about it which I find highly unlikely. Unless Georgia is just bragging about it. Hey we got this guy for this and ya we got a bargain for this guy. May be true, but you knowing specifics doesn't hold water.

I doubt they outright offer money to anyone who walks in the door. My guess is that they feel you and your parents out to see if that's something you are looking for. If it is, then they move forward accordingly. Even if it's your programs MO to pay up, you're not going to be stupid about it.

Well, I guess if he picks Georgia there's no doubt that he'll be one of the many receivers in college football watching Black and Peoples Jones kill it. He'll be on the outside looking in as those two will be labled in the national spotlight as the best combo in college football in 2019. This team just seems so stacked at receiver right now that I cant see missing on Nico would matter. He is definetly an added bonus though.

Edit: Yeah Georgia's offense will be good and they will do something finally overall as a team....Not. Georgia sucks, has great talent and will continue to suck. Florida will always own them and Alabama will always destroy them.

So be it. I will say, though, that this isn't Georgia under Richt anymore. I'm not saying there are any backdoor dealings going on, but I'm also not going to assume Smart runs that team the same way it has for decades, good and bad. In other words, don't color me surprised if we hear various stories from other fanbases that UGA is throwing money around.

If Martin commits, don't think this will be a huge loss. Martin might be a better fit. Black appears to be better than originally thought so they have two high potential guys out wide already. Martin fits the slot better. They have a lot of tight ends that can catch. You don't tell a guy with Collins upside no but at the same time Michigan seems loaded with catching threats if they get Martin.

1) Hot southern bells lined up to blow him upon arrival

2) Wink, wink "Your family will be taken care of and you will need for nothing while you are here"

3) "Academics are more of an extra-curricular activity here in Athens"

Sorry, he gone.

Jabrill Peppers (a long standing emotional bond / fan of the school) and Rashan Gary (Mama don't mess around, academics come first) are the exception to the rule.  Most 18 year olds with realistic NFL aspirations would take the girls, cash, and easier academic route given all other variables (quality of football, coaching, exposure) being relatively equal.

Harbagh is amazing and will pull in some great recruits, as does the Michigan tradition, but the SEC is just a different animal and to think otherwise is delusional.
