I  know, another Brian Kelly post but, this is Gold Jerry! Kelly seems like he he trying to be funny and show some sort of personality but it backfires on him. Not a good start in Bayou for BK

If you’re going to be a snarky douche, your delivery has to be smooth and fun. The guy just stumbles through it hoping they’ll interrupt him with raucous laughter and they tell him he’s a loser (he is). Also, he’s a callous shit and deserves the shit press.

Press conference was at noon, I was running from a doctor’s appointment. Got there at 11:57. Brian Kelly called me out, said jokingly I owed him $10, I said if he won maybe I’d be on time. Not my finest hour. I apologized afterward, he was super chill and said I still owe him $10

I know Brian Kelly likes to joke. He clearly took it as one from our conversation afterward. All in good fun, fam.

He said he needs $10 so he can afford his new jackets and I said he has $90 mil for that and he said that’s a smoke screen and I said that’s fair and I liked his new jacket and he thanked me. If y’all want all the details.

I'm sure that sounded like a funny comeback in her head, but that was an amateur hack thing to say in a public press conference.  She is not a fan with a ticket, LSU does not owe her anything.

I'm no Kelly fan, and he likely started it by calling her out, but she didn't acquit herself very well here either.

A mess all around.

Well that was a short honeymoon.  He'll need to work on his accent even more.

Idgaf who you are, you've gotta earn personal respect. Brian thinks he's owed respect and well, bless his heart if he thinks that'll fly in Louisiana

They turned on Ed Orgeron in a heartbeat. And Orgeron won them a Natty. And there is nobody more Cajun than Ed Orgeron. Brian Kelly has not won LSU a national championship. Kelly is the least Cajun man in college football. Louisiana will turn against Brian Kelly in three, two, one...

I'm so happy.

I think everyone in Louisiana realized pretty quick that Ed Orgeron did not win LSU that title. Joe Brady did, and the wonders he worked with Burrow and that offense.

I will credit Orgeron for hiring Brady and being smart enough to get out of his way, but given LSU's underwhelming performances in every year except 2019, all years where Joe Brady was not in the building, it was pretty easy to turn on Orgeron by the end. With the way LSU recruits they should be in the CFP discussion every year. Orgeron made them.....not that.

If I recall correctly, Joe Burrow, JaMarr Chase and Terrace Marshall Jr. were on the team prior to when Brady arrived, and I don't recall hearing their names about much of anything prior to the 2019 season. Burrow was certainly nothing special at LSU in the 2018 season. Threw for under 3K yards with a 16:5 TD/INT ratio. Not bad at all, but nothing to write home about. Certainly nothing that warrants drafting you first overall.

Chase had 23 receptions for 313 yards and 3 TDs in 2018. Marshall Jr's stats were even lower than that.

Brady didn't bring those guys with him when he got to LSU. He is the main reason they got the chance to blow up into what they became, and he certainly helped unlock their potential, which undoubtedly would've been squandered had Orgeron not made those changes prior to the 2019 season.

So yeah, I'd still say Brady is the architect behind LSU winning the title that year. It wasn't like those three were already great.

I was at a wedding in my early 20s with Gerry Faust.

We got on an elevator together just the two of us.  I told him he was my favorite Notre Dame coach to which he smiled until I said, “yes sir I’m a Michigan fan.”

Not really my proudest moment, but I was young and more immature than I am now.  He seemed like a pretty good guy.

I really dislike that guy. But lots of detestable people persist in American life long past their apparent expiration dates, and Kelly did at Notre Dame, long after death and other indignities might have driven him from the place. If he wins, he'll have a job, and if he loses. . . he may still have a job for a bit because he's got an absurd salary.

I think we'd be better off planning to enjoy the despair that surrounds Kelly being LSU's coach for a couple of years--obvious cultural mismatch or no--and then he'll go off and be just another purple-faced retiree haranguing his wife in the supermarket, annoyed when people don't recognize him, in and out of the hospital with weight issues and heart problems. The rest of us can try to do better and not be like him. :)

They'll kiss and make up. Kelly knows he'll need the media as a tool to throw players under the bus, to relieve pressure off him by finding scapegoats, to keep the facade up that he's not a prickly, dour egomaniac who'd have his best pal shivved if necessary.

The media in the meantime knows that you wanna be in the good books of the HC at least until the day his firing is announced. For as long as he's still the guy they pay big bucks to win, they'll have to 'have his back'.

Turns out winning in the SEC is a little harder than playing a cupcake schedule of tomato cans, military academies, and a decade-long-downturned USC every year, eh Brian?

BK seems pretty self-aware of his righteousness and need convince everyone around him of how smart he is.  He's just not so good at reading the reactions of the world around him.  Point is, he needs to have the press on his side instead of treating them like kids who displease him.  This won't end well.
