The most pertinent is his vehicle. He was driving a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer. No new Explorer with dealer tags. No story there.

The second is that he blew a .099. Not just barely above the .08 threshhold as given in the initial post here.

OSU is going to suspend him for one week, though, because he was only cited with a misdemeanor.

It wouldn't matter much if they suspended him for two weeks.  The second game he'd miss would be Illinois, and OSU can beat the Illini easily enough with Jones at QB.

One week for these type of violations is typical.  It is also right in line with the punishments applied by other schools for the same offense.

And the loss of financial aid is also consistent with what Urban Meyer has done since at OSU.  It is not loss of scholarship, just the financial aid (which I believe is the stipend they get to help with living expenses).

Do you think they care about excuses when they beat us?  You think they care that the darkest days of a Michigan team when RR/Hoke were the coaches (and we had ONE win against them) would diminish their bragging rights on us?

FUCK THAT.  Suspend their whole Offensive Line and the QB...beat the shit out of them and then laugh until next year.

The two things that are now clarify kind of even out. He didn't just have a couple of beers and leave. He was definitely over the limit and tried to avoid the checkpoint. However whoever said he was driving a brand new car is whack.

I don't like to wade through all this muck. College athletes will do dumb things and get arrested sometimes. Meyer's not my favorite coach but I don't think he'd handle this much differently than other coaches.

First off, the 2016 Ford Explorer with dealer plates is frequently mistaken in police reports for the 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, so I think that part of the report should be taken with a grain of salt.

From: http://dui.drivinglaws.org/ohio.php

If your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was between .08%-.17% you will serve a mandatory 72 hours in jail. You will also be ordered to pay a fine between $250 and $1,000.

I guess that "mandatory" doesn't mean the same thing in Ohio as it does in the rest of the country.

Wasn't proud of this momemnt but I did make the awful decision to drink and drive. My dui charge was 30 days in Jail. However, I went to a shrink on a weekly basis to prove I wasn't alcohol dependent, then was able to get 27 of those 30 days suspended. I spent three days,  at a DIP and had to meet with the MAAD team to regain the points on my license. My fines and lawyer fees were all around $5,000, lost my driving privileges for 6 months except for work and school.  I was not suspended from school or lose my Internship. This was in Ohio too.

I don't know personally anybody in Ohio who was immediately jailed after getting a DUI. They usually cite you, give you your court date, and you're released to someone.

One of my roommates from college got one and I was worried about his drunk ass so I called the station. They said "Oh, the friendly black guy? Yeah, he's getting ready to be released. An officer will be dropping him off at home shortly."

a friend of mine was sentenced to over 100 hours of jail for a drunk driving, but was able to work them off via community service.

the 'mandatory' may refer to sentencing once he's officially found guilty, and even then he might be able to work off the jail time.  i suspect he hasn't paid any fines yet, either.

A couple of things jump out at me:

1.  He's 20, so the legal limit is 0.02.  He's not "just barely over the legal limit", he's technically 5 TIMES over the legal limit.

2.  Shouldn't the legal limit for under 21 be 0?  Are they accounting for all the times 20 year olds take Nyquil before jumping in the car or something?

3.  Are there charges for being under 21 in this situation?  Or do you have to actually be holding the alcohol?

I'm a prosecutor in Ohio. Underage Consumption under Ohio Revised Code section 4301.69(E) states "No underage person shall knowingly order, pay for, share the cost of, attempt to purchase, possess, or consume any beer or intoxicating liquor in any public or private place." So the mere act of consumption is sufficient for the Ohio charge. You don't have to be in possession of it. It is a Misdemeanor of the 1st Degree punishable up to 6 months in jail.
