Isaiah Todd trending to Michigan on 24/7

Submitted by lilwolve4 on October 7th, 2019 at 4:07 PM

Multiple Crystal Balls have come in today for Michigan for 5* PF Isaiah Todd (#12 Nationally, #2 PF) for Michigan this morning including from Jerry Meyer (Director of Basketball Scouting for 24/7 Sports; has 90% accuracy this year on Crystal Balls). This would be a HUGE pickup for the new staff and a great start in recruiting.

He decides next Thursday. It's currently a seemingly 2-horse race between the good guys and Kansas. I guess Snoop didn't give Kansas the boost they expected. Here's to hoping he goes Blue (not that blue).

I put this in another thread, but as long as we're doing another one...

Rivals national analyst Corey Evans put in a prediction for Kansas yesterday. He changed it to Michigan today. Presumably he heard something persuasive to do that quick 180.

The 1994 class would be ranked higher.

Jerod Ward, Mo Taylor, Maceo Baston, Willie Mitchell and Travis Conlan. It predates Rivals and 247 but Ward was widely considered the #1 recruit in the country. Taylor, Baston and Mitchell were all in the top 20. That's four 5 stars and Conlan was a decent recruit too.

Jerry Meyers comparison is Noah Vonleh. In my experience comparisons are usually conservative.I see Chris Bosh. Kid has handles, can shoot the 3, effortlessly athletic around the rim

Juwan Howard is the perfect coach to take this kid to the next level

IF Todd does come here, and that's obviously not a sure thing, it would be a great confirmation of the Howard recruiting strategy of going after many high level prospects.  You offer a lot of them, show them what Michigan can offer, and hopefully a few come here.  Beilein just wouldn't play the numbers game here, and that's what it takes.  JB did a lot to bring Michigan basketball back to the national spotlight.  But his approach to recruiting didn't take enough advantage of it.  Plus, recruits had a harder time relating to his old school approach to things.  Juwan Howard brings a fresh new approach that HS kids can relate to.  If this works out, then he needs to prove it on the court.

Beilein recruited just fine and he had a great system for evaluating talent.

Evaluating talent to fit your system/team culture is way more important than offering anybody and everybody.

There are a LOT of teams out there that have high recruits and aren't all that great. Recruiting matters, but by no means do we know this approach translates to equal or better success than Beilein. I have faith Juwan will figure it out, though, but I just don't really like knocking Beilein's approach.

I'm not sure it's a knock to state the obvious.  Beilein never chased after a lot of highly ranked recruits, it looks like Howard will.  One of the great what-ifs that has been discussed around here for years was what would Beilein teams look like with top-notch recruits
